I've been unemployed since graduation last year and I can tell you that this is gonna be a period of growth and reset. You have to focus on you and not what your employed peers are doing, and remember that having time to yourself is still a blessing. Play music really loud and dance, take up a new fun hobby, watch some shows/movies, eat yummy home-cooked food and breathe :)
thank you :)
Are you unemployed by choice?
For 6 plus years, I've limited my to-do lists to 3 things. It has helped my mental health so much. More recently, I've decided that one thing per day is enough and the other two are like extra credit. It is truly freeing and I'm actually getting stuff done.
Loveee that
Your worthiness is never tied to your job/career or being employed and that is what im currently learning
im truly unemployed for the first time after years of academia and its like. oh this is weird. idk who i am as a person without school or work sometimes so yeah. i loved your little aside about domestic work because this is just how i am as a person as well and my parents are getting sooo tired of me now lmfao
AND im starting the artist's way with friends for accountability! i got inspired seeing you and katherout talk about it and now im taking the plunge i hope it helps with the whole identity crisis thing
The title alone i relate already!!
1 month ago I was fired horrifically from a job I worked at for 4 years. I dont know what to do, but Im making goals and trying to understand what working for myself means. Its awesome to know that I have a new found freedom, but after nearly 20 years of always working for someone, and fulfilling this sick and twisted capatilist "grind" mindset - I HAVE to reset. Its comforting to know Im not alone.
you saying “ the goal is to fill the pages” is going to be my new mantra when perfectionism is biting my ass. Because the goal is to fill the pages !!!
this was so vibrant and inspiring, as a fellow unemployed person
This is my niece. You are so phenomenol. I am soooooo proud of you. You are goals.
It’s nice to see you venture with this vlog! Your vlogs are fun 👏🏽
I also recently got laid off from my job and oh boy this is my life too. it's tough but I know something better is coming along!
Repairing an attention span deficit I recently developed. Interferes with my jobs and hobbies. Triggering myself, then disciplining myself through commitment to establish the habit. Grounding into my pinky toes and elbows so I may improve my ability to sit stationary. I’m a mystic-Christian monk.
This was validating and poetic
i loved this vid! i just moved to nyc this summer without a job and it’s been hard not having a routine to follow, but these things definitely help. i also feel that to-do list urge HARDDD!!!
I'm adding reading at a cemetery to my list of things to try this year, awesome video!
I relate with the dilemma of how we choose to identify when we're unemployed
I got a job straight out of uni, worked for three years but I've now been unemployed since the beginning of the year, it feels easier to isolate myself to avoid the dreadful "what do you do for work" question, but I picked up hiking and I meet new people all the time, and it's great. I'm still learning not to tie my work to my worth.
I completely understand how you feel; I graduated in 2020 and was unemployed for a year (as I no longer got work in my temp job at uni due to system changes) and ended up spending 2 ½ years doing a min-wage admin role (although now I'll be starting a new job in 2 weeks time in an admin related role for the council).
I guess this experience taught me that sometimes, things don't go to plan and you kind of have to try to figure yourself out (which is what I am doing still haha). Life works out different for everyone and it is OK. ❤
I used to love making bread when I had a family to bake it for and the kids loved eating it. It never hung around and in fact, it barely had time to cool most of the time. I never tried anything that exotic though adding raisins to it was always a winner.
sounds like my own mom
I needed this vlog! I'm right there with ya girl.
hi amanda! as a senior in college I definitely relate to your feelings of self-doubt and ambiguity abt defining yourself in this period of your life. still, thanks so much for this vlog! I've missed them and this one definitely helped lift my spirits :)
I really enjoyed this vlog! I’m currently still at my first “adult job” after graduating from college. It’s definitely not the best, but I’m grateful for the opportunity. Also, I’m grateful that I am able to provide for my family😅💯
I loved this video! The video style, the insightful comments about every day life, it was just what I needed today
thank you so much!! and glad you enjoyed!

Straight facts about the dishwasher propaganda. Big Plate has people conforming to laziness :P
Am in thw thick of it too. Except I quit my job. I worked in a school and a kid bit me on the arm. 😒 Quickly decided I didn't have the fortitude for that. Pray for me yall. I'm trying to figure out what to do.
I am unemployed for 3 years now
What if you built the infrastructure of film? Just not in the US? By moving to another country that has a growing film industry you can take advantage of to share your niche knowledge to. call it a vacation even.
It's interesting that you've seen Stick It but haven't seen Bring It On until recently because I feel like for most people it's the opposite.
it's bc I grew up doing gymnastics! And watching make it or break it lololol
What was that book rec at 4:55? The artist's way?
yes! The Artist Way by Julia Cameron
favourite girl:)
My new mission in life is to find and expose corruption in the Big Plate industry.
what industry are you in?
Did you just say you cannot concentrate on only one type of food texture, you need multiple textures in your food or you will get bored eating ?
it's not necessary but i do appreciate multiple textures!
Do you have a letterboxd? Would love to follow you!
yes! It's amandagordon
I'd rather have a washing machine and dryer than a dishwasher. dishwasher soap is a whole scam iykyk.
Enjoy it while you can ,when you have a home loan you are a slave to your job, there's no getting sick of your job and just leaving, damn those were the days
Washing machines and dryers are 100% a god send , dishwasher yeah pretty overrated
1st
three cheers for the unemployed nyc girlies
I swear you younger folks hate to work lol.. .good luck
Aspiring to be a writer during the WGA Strike? We don’t know her.
Dishwaters are great for families who like eating.
Shit, you single? I’m tryna see wassup! 😎
Serious slacker. Get a job cmon. The world needs us to do our best for one another. And how do you even afford rent?!?!?
Love this. I also recently graduated college and have done filmmaking and photography… Navigating the switch and what to do next has been a process but I too have been affirming to let go of doubt, trust myself, and go with the flow.
Best of luck w everything!! 🍀🤍🤍
Oh and I also just saw Bottoms… hilarious & wonderful film!
