Not just that, your paladin's warhorse (if he/she buys one) can become flying and gargantuan. Now your party can fly around on a creature that just costs money to get. Btw, the beastmaster thing cannot happen until level 10 when the druid can affect other beasts.
Something fun with this class at level 6: Seeing as you can have a maximum of 3 mutation points from transmuting just one 3rd-level spell slots, become an allosaurus (CR 2), and give yourself +3 AC from the beginning (AC now 16). Use the other 3rd-level slot on the next turn to become Gargantuan (for the reach and d20 hit dice). Now use your 60 speed to use your Pounce trait every turn by running away from and then back into melee to claw opponents. If the enemy is knocked prone, then bonus action bite. Now use a level 2 slot on turn 3 for Venomous Attacks. This can be even more useful than normal because you can fish for crits with your decent bite (base at Large is 2d10+4, which should increase with size) after a successful use of Pounce, and the poison dice double as well.
The flying speed is nice on giant constrictor snakes because they can use their constrict attack to grapple an opponent then fly 60ft into the air dropping the enemy for an additional 6d6 unresisted damage, or 3d6 if you want to fly back down in the same turn.
It would be fun if the mutated creature could count as an aberration or monstrocity while above X amount of mutations. Also. Its fun to mix and match beasts with all those mutations!
One thing I like to do with wild fire druids is let them choose an alternative elemental damage type. I had one guy who picked lightning as his elemental damage type, and had a lot of fun with it seeing as I added lightning bolt to the druids spell list.
Way too soon. Until level 10 the mutation druid can be anything the moon druid can be, but better. Imagine a giant owl (with its flyby attack) that is gargantuan (its hit dice, and thus hit points, increases), armored, and deals poison damage.
I’ve been playing this and the limitation’s of wild shape really do come in to play. The problem is your beasts can die so quickly with low armor glass that it makes investing spell slots to boost them very risky. Also, beasts tend to have somewhat low hit chance, especially if you’re comparing to martial classes with magic weapons. I am about to actually switch over to the circle of blood and I’m very excited about that. The blood magic spells offer. A lot of really cool support options. PS, you can only add one mutation to other beasts
We love more options for spell slots and Wild Shape! Couple of issues with this one so far, though. 1. Circle Forms is a core part of Moon Druid, and it makes the Moon Druid very strong already. Giving it to a subclass that already has a core gimmick (the mutations) is very scary. I would've reduced its CR a bit further, maybe Druid level divided by 4. 2. Unnatural and Unnerving is fun and flavorful - though I don't like the limitation to Charisma for Intimidation, would like to see that apply to all checks that use Intimidation - and it's reasonably weak to make up for the power spike of Circle Forms. If Circle Forms is fixed (cause it's a little broken, in my opinion), we can afford to add some extra power here. For example, resistance to psychic damage due to the horrific mutations' effect on any sane mind, or even dealing psychic damage on a successful Intimidation check, who knows. 3. Woah, Endless Evolution is insane. There is no limitation, as far as I can tell, on which beasts can be mutated by your mutations. You can do this on a hostile creature that's chasing you through a dungeon system, and cause it to grow too large to fit through the doors, for example. Since this mutation lasts until dispelled (no saving throw!) the creature will be locked in place in a dungeon room, until it dies of starvation or is released by a kind soul with Dispel Magic. I understand the intent, to add bonuses to summoned creatures or friendly beasts. However, this desperately needs limitations - it should either only work on willing and friendly creatures, or require a saving throw from unwilling creatures. Additionally, it should last, at most, until the next long rest - if the Necromancer needs to refresh their undead army with a spell slot every day, it's perfectly reasonable to ask the same of the genetic mad scientist druid. 4. Apex Predator is fun, but I'd like to see it a bit earlier - scaring beasts off at level 14 isn't much, as official books only have beasts up to CR 8. Making it so you get it earlier, and then is upgraded to work on other creatures at 14th level, would work much better in my opinion. Overall, great idea, but needs some playtesting and considerations, I think. Fun video lol, keep it up.
The thing is, it was playtested. But I understand what you mean. Maybe the playtesters weren't too creative. Another example is that you can Animal Friendship some reef sharks, give them the ability to breathe air and fly, add armor, and grow them to Huge. And remember, they have Pack Tactics. So, just for the lulz, transform to match them, and you now lead a swarm of armored, Huge sky-sharks that can swarm your foes. You don't need your capstone ability to make just about any creature need to save versus the frightened condition.
Another great subclass in my book. I love subclasses that are versatile, and this allows your character to adapt better to different campaigns and unexpected things that come up.
I use this to carry the party around as a Colossal Quetz or grappling 2 ppl as a giant scorpion and flying them in the air for a drop. Also really good for buffing mounts and awakened animals.
I really love the idea of mutating another beast! Initially, this is a slightly less well-rounded Circle of the Moon Druid. But at 10th level they really come online with free Mutation points AND permanent companion mutations. Commit absolute shenanigans with the Paladin's beloved warhorse! I also love that there's some potential chicanery later with using True Polymorph to turn your party martials into Adult Silver Dragons, then them using Change Shape to become something like a Giant Ape, then just unloading ALL your mutation points into the Giant Ape who can just stay like that, with every single benefit here all at once. Truly terrifying! Also hilarious. How does the giveaway work? I just started DMing (4 sessions in!) so getting some books would be a huge benefit for my party and I.
Every milestone of subscribers we do a giveaway. The next milestone is 20,000. When we hit it we will announce a winner and start a new round! Thanks for watching!
Shenanigans? How about this: Starting at level 10, you can, using Animal Friendship and Speak With Animals, make friends with (and mutate) some whales (or other Huge beast). Initially reduce them from Huge (smaller creatures are harder to spot from a distance) to Medium, and give them flight and the ability to speak (which implies they can understand you). When you have regained all your spell slots, use your flying riding horse that you modified to lead your whale friends (Animal Friendship has a 24-hour duration, so no need to cast again) up into the sky above some building/people you do not like. Now, turn by turn, alter them so that you reshuffle the points: bring them to Gargantuan; add armor; make sure they can no longer fly. Imagine an armored blue whale falling from a few hundred feet up... onto you and your allies; that is a morale check if I ever heard one (if you survive). Dropping from at least 200 feet up, anything beneath it will not only be prone, but split the 20d6 bludgeoning damage with the whale. And why the armor? It may help any argument that not only is the whale massive, but its armored hide can reasonably break stone battlements when falling at terminal velocity. Repeat as needed. Yes, if this ever got out, other druids would despise you, but hey, if you're evil or chaotic neutral, why would you care? You could try it with a more hostile, terrestrial creature (dire wolf or allosaurus, for example), and after it survives the fall, it is a scared and angry creature that is armored, Gargantuan, and venomous. It's also conveniently amongst a plethora of surprised targets, having bypassed any walls or defenses. And you didn't even need to Wild Shape.
Soon this is exactly the kind of druid I'd like to play, I love the creepy flavor of circle of spores but I've always wanted a creepy subclass for druid that focused on beast shapes but darker. I can not wait to play this subclass
I'm in a modified d20 modern game. Zombie apocalypse with magic mixed in. stuff gets nutty My alchemist has his foot out the door if you know what I mean, so I was doing some research and thankfully I found this. Magic moonshine man is heading out. Ben Tenison's grandkid is in
Sorry, no can do. The highest CR either a moon or mutation druid can reach is 6, as your maximum is your level divided by three. But that would be baller AF.
Did not expect the tiny flying mammoth lol... I do like the versatility of this, not going to lie, I wish this was better than moon druid. Moon druid needs to be dethroned if only for the sack of spicing things up in the community.
So many wacky, wild subclasses...so little time. Cool subclass that would be so fun to play. Some players focus on maxed out characters, which is fine. However, this one brings respectable stats but could be so fun to play.
Don't make trash clickbait titles about unofficial content, it does not dethrone moon druids because this subclass is a homebrew and will not find itself in 99.99% games

DM: So what animal are you changing into?
Mutation Druid: Yes
Absolutely LOVE this thing! I love the idea of giving yourself vocal chords so you can perform verbal components
The idea of doubling the size of a tiger and then giving it an extra attack by level 7 sounds game breaking.
The synergy between this and the beast master ranger is actually kind of nutty. Basically, at level 2 the beast master can get a flying mount.

@@derekstein6193 I must have missed that part.

Could see a lot of fun flavoring here for a simic hybrid druid

Nothing can dethrone the Moon Druid!
Edit: just watched the video. I might have spoken too soon.....

Druid is becoming my new favorite class. I’m playing the dragon Druid from one of your other videos.

So, if you transform into a t-rex with the right mutations could you pass yourself off as a dragon?
Sorry, no can do. The highest CR either a moon or mutation druid can reach is 6, as your maximum is your level divided by three.
But that would be baller AF.
Using the level 6 feature and unnatural voice, example could be a polar bear speaking instead of roaring, but I think that'd scare anyone.
Question if the paladin casts divine steed could you mutate it?
You mean the Find Steed spell? Sorry, but the steed summoned is a celestial, fey, or fiend, not a beast.
Happy Hands! Flying, Talking, Giant Spider. Have a great night!
Add swimming and waterbreathing.
Solid class, a lot of flavor! But definitely nich
Some of it might match well with spells like conjure animals

The apex ability make the lv 10 ability hard to use I believe
tiny venomous mammoth
first thing i would do is turn in to a talking cat and freak people out
❤
Math Druid or Meth Druid...
when pigs can fly...
With this subclass, they can!
👍🏻
Best way to play ben 10
Polymorph then mutate anyone?
This thing screams NPC villain to me...
