This does work! I just took the receiver from a crashed RV7 that a kid sold me, and installed it in an old Maule M7 I bought used. By old I mean it came with an Admiral Receiver. So no AS3X or Safe. Hence the reason I wanted to install a new receiver. I just finished installing the Maule M7 software on the previously RV7 AR631 Receiver. I’ll update this after I maiden it.
This is great. I want that set up. I love that. I had you guys send me one preprogrammed for my e flight mustang and it was difficult to get done using online chats with Horizon.
Good video and lots of good information. Presets are convenient and easy to use. I've used it once, but decided I can program my own planes the way I want them.
This video is very helpful, thanks! I bought a replacement AR631 for an AeroScout and wondered why AS3X and SAFE didn't work. I didn't see it in the manual, but it would be nice if Spektrum included some of this info in the new Rx packaging for other modelers in the same situation. Again, thanks for this video!
For the most part yes. The files available are the exact same preset as if it was coming from a BNF model. So if the model you are importing the file of has SAFE/AS3X then yes it will have SAFE/AS3X. Hope that helps!
Could not transfer the listed conscendo file. the Spektrum programmer says the consendo is on an SRM file and not a SAX file. Dragging onto Spektrum Programmer isn't taken.
If I want to use a receiver on several different airplanes, can I store several preset models on the receiver at the same time or do I have to load only one preset model and when I move the receiver to another airplane, I have to load the correct preset model for the second plane which wipes out the first preset model that was loaded? What if the second airplane doesn't have a preset model to load? How do I delete the preset model that's on the receiver? What happens if the load the correct preset model on the transmitter and the receiver has no preset model installed or has the wrong preset model install?
Hello, I am having some difficulty in setting up (without Forward programming) as I have an older spektrum radio. How can I use the programming cable connected to my pc to setup receiver orientation and gains? I have a MRC spitfire that I would like to use this receiver in. Currently I can setup AR636 but when I select AR637T I only see a few options to rename model but no way to get into programming mode? Thanks.
After updating and transferring a "PRESET MODEL" to the Receiver, why, using the "SPEKTRUM PROGRAMMER", there is no access to the "DASHBOARD" after selecting that Model in the "PROGRAMMER"??
i have all spektrum devices, ar637t, avian 60 amp esc, avian motor, and an nx6 transmitter , i cant get any battery data, rpm, amp is my esc bad or is there something that can be missig ??
I have a 637TA Receiver out of my Conscendo Evolution that I would like to install into a new Night Timber. Does the 637TA need to be unlocked before the programing can be done? If so, is there a link to do so? Thanks! Keith
When I go to plug in my cable to the RX nothing happens with the pc programmer. I can't click power cable, or connect, or anything. The cable also gets really hot whenever I connect it to my pc and RX, any ideas why thats happening?
If you set up a receiver with SAFE mode selected, but have to invert one of the outputs because the flight surface its operating opposite of what it should, does SAFE understand this and will it give the correct output to counteract a wind gust or axis change?
Perfect, two more questions,Question #1. On the B switch, is position 0 the beginner level or is it the advanced mode. Question #2, for the C switch is positron 0 the low rate or the high rate
@@SpektrumRCvideos Yeah, I can setup from scratch. It's more like I have no experience with Spektrum ecosystem. That's why I was looking for some reference. I think indeed, I can use the viper 90 file as a reference and setup the Havoc based on that and see, if it needs any adjustments. Thanks!
There is no preset file for my Spitfire EFL8650 in the directory for the AR637T. I could not find an AR636A or B that came in the plane (which went out) as they are out of stock everywhere. Will the AR636 Preset model file import and work in the AR637T and if not can you send me the correct file. I'm a fairly new pilot and not up to speed on forward programming yet and on a nice plane I do not want to risk crashing it (which is why I purchased the BNF model to start with). It's hard for me to believe I spent 40 more dollars over the price of a AR638 on the AR637T and there is no preset file for a lot of models to import to it.
Hi Rob, Hopefully we will have a setup file for the Spitfire soon. Unfortunately the 636 preset will not transfer to a AR637T. That being said they are quite easy to setup and there are a lot of great tutorials out there, from us and 3rd parties. Hope that helps!
@@SpektrumRCvideos one question if i pull up the spitfire ar636 preset file in the program it shows me the as3x settings can i just use those values when forward programming the ar637t from the transmitter? (NX8)
There really isn't anything that you are "programming" here, just selecting a model preset. ALL programming is done via forward programming on the transmitter. There is literally nothing you can program with the PC Programmer on the Smart Receivers at this time, only updates and importing/exporting presets.
@@SpektrumRCvideos I've ordered a BNF RV7, if I want to re use the AR631 from this can I use forward programming to do a factory reset and start again?
OR get away from safe/as3x, keeping telemetry, saving almost half the money, flying without the seatbelt! I re-learned to fly on safe. For a month & QUIT using all the immense limitations of as3x (& safe). Safe is for pilots that are scared to fly/or want limitations. U cant do 3D with limitations! IMHO
There is absolutely nothing wrong with spending a little extra on a SAFE receiver and having it set to a 3 position switch in case you lose orientation or need to land in windy conditions
Wow, what a mess Spektrum. Let’s over complicate simple stuff. Buy Spektrum cables, buy computer, buy only new Rx’s, read the manual for a cray computer - what happened to KISS?
This is really great news. I have done some of the forward programming a few times but having the bnf file available is so cool.

Can you use it in a plane that is close to the type of plane you have... like a high wing trainer using a apprentice plane. Would that work

I have the same question. I have several AR636A receivers that came in BNFs, 2 from Valiants and a Timber.
If you set up a receiver with SAFE mode selected, but have to invert one of the outputs because the flight surface its operating opposite of what it should, does SAFE understand this and will it give the correct output to counteract a wind gust or axis change?
If you are reversing it with in the transmitter programming, make sure you use the "relearn servo settings" option in Forward Programming
@@SpektrumRCvideos. Yep. I made sure to do that. I still can't figure out why my Carbon cub with an Ar637T nose dives as soon as SAFE is switched on.
Can these updates be done through the IX12 transmitter?
They can not. PC only at this time
why were you pressing on the receiver at the end do you have to press the bind button or something ???
Nope just taping on it to bring attention to the receiver :)
I’ve installed the programmer Beta and connected to receiver. Do you know why I can’t see any tabs besides “models” and “software update”?
The Forward programmable receivers are not able to be configured with a PC. Only via the forward programming menu on your transmitter.
@@SpektrumRCvideos that makes total sense. Thank you!!
How do I know what switches to either set up, or use with these preset model file imports on my transmitter?
They mirror the manuals setup sheet of the BNF/RTF model it is made for. A = Gear, B = flight modes, C = Dual Rates, D = Flaps etc

Position 0 on the B switch is Beginner mode if using a Safe model preset. High rate is on position 0 of the C switch
I know, the model was discontinued, but any chance you have the config file for Havoc XE? I've got it second hand and I have AR637T receiver in it.
