i don't hear anything that sounds poppy to me whatsoever. Mastodon is and will always be an excellent group. Quit ya'lls griping. So it's pop if they're singing. This music will never be heard on the radio ever. The new album is gonna be epic!! All of their albums have a unique sound to them, this coming from a long time mastodon fan. The evolution of their sound is phenomenal. Screaming all the time is getting kinda old these days, glad to hear they're singing.
It sounds like new age metal. Like if anthrax and megadeath had a baby.
I swear Mastodon is the single, most well put together band around, everything is always perfect.

This "Audio Visualizer" version sounds a tad better than the "Official Audio" version. Sounds more crisp, and the bass kick sounds louder. Could be just me though. Awesome song fellas!

As artists they are always looking to do something better and different from their previous work which is common for most artists in general and whats the point of making the same album twice? creative lifespan can differ from person to person and you should do as much as u can as quick as u can without 'rushing.'
Sean Austin Lewis I can see your point but Mastodon is one f the few bands with such a big turn from album to album, but lets take as an example bands like Down! They add elements in every album that makes it special, but they remain face melting stoners! By the way love both!

I actually really enjoy the chorus it kind of feels surreal stoner ish. That's the vibe I get from the whole song
The sound on here is like the guitar tone from Crack The Skye with The Hunter riff writing and Troy sounds like how he did on Blood Mountain. Fantastic, and if this is any indication of what to expect from Once More Round The Sun this is gonna be a fantastic album.

Mastodon are incapable of making a bad album. "Once More Round The Sun" is like a greatest hits album - they've taken all the different musical styles that they've dabbled in over the last 5 albums and put them into a single collection. Easily my album of the year.
I almost fully agree with you listened to it for the first time today at work it was amazing but I just wish the would put out a full blown in your face heavy song I need that from them lol but amazing album all the way

Renato Tomas I also loved their Leviathan-era vibe, but I realize, folks want to explore their range. Though, on a practical note, I know that the rawer style is harder to maintain over time, particularly on the vocal chords.

I'm stoked to hear the rest of the album when it comes out. I remember hearing about the new track from metal injection. Then my mom asked if I liked them and shared this song from their page. The fact that my mom likes Mastodon puts the icing on the cake.

I love prog, but I don't think they're at their best when its the only thing they focus on. This is where they shine, if I want prog I'll go listen to Opeth or something.

this new album is killer!!! mastodon change it up every album but it always has their sound and they always deliver...this album grows on you..i really dig this "chimes at midnight" the title track, "feast your eyes" and "the motherload"...if youre a true fan of these guys you will dig on it..it feels awesome loud...

I'm digging this song. Can't wait for the album to drop!!! Mastodon will ALWAYS have a fan in me, fuck the haters that hate on this after not even hearing the entire album first!! Some people can't grasp the fact that some artists EVOLVE over the course of their career, and that the things that inspired them when they were just starting out doesn't necessarily end up being the same things that gets the juices going present day...Seriously, its not a difficult concept!!

cam7scott13 Correction...High Road is sung by Troy in the verses and Brann in the choruses. Chimes At Midnight has Troy singing the verses and choruses and Brent singing the bridge.
