They may be #1 in our hearts but Gogobebe topped out at #5 on the main weekly k-chart, tho it did reach #2 on Billboard's Korean and World singles charts. For a good time watch the rock version they performed live with labelmates Onewe as the band. I can see why you'd think the Winter/White song in the 4S4C project would be a ballad - tis the season for sentimental, melancholy songs after all. But when they introduced White in Paint Me it symbolized the innocence of youth before sexual awakening and they chose to emphasize the fun, youthful qualities of innocence like playfulness, mischievousness, and openness to new people and experiences. Gogobebe came out in early March 2019 and I think they were trying to capture the spirit of the transition to a new spring season at the end of the winter of emotional hibernation they experienced following the heartbreak in Wind Flower. I think the solo scenes at the beginning where they're each isolated and stuck in a different rut are hilarious. The invitation to a house party breaks the emotional ice, so to speak, and triggers them to emerge from the white blanket of emotional snow like daffodils coming up as a harbinger of spring, which might be exactly the image they were going for when Moonbyul busts up through the ceiling of her stifling office. The emotional withdrawal after the breakup in Wind Flower was a necessary phase just like winter is an essential natural cycle, but eventually spring comes again and with it will come spring fever, attraction (the next stage in the 4S4C relationship cycle) and a new relationship. You started to ask about Moonbyul's rap verse "9 / 6, 6 19, 9 / 6, Gogobebe!" Basically they're giving moomoos a numerological riddle to solve as an in-joke with the fandom. MMM loves to play games and they enjoy inserting letter, number and word substitutions in their lyrics almost as much as they love to play with moomoos. And of course they're always looking for fun ways to flip the script and turn things upside down. Here are the keys to crack the code: The alternate title of Gogobebe is 9966 (g = 9 and b = 6) so Byul's line can also be written "9 / 6, 6 19, 9 / 6, 9966." I'm sure you noticed the kids flipping the address from 66 to 99 and also note that 9 / 6, 6 19 is a palindrome with the slash becoming a 1 when reversed (or flipped). 9 to 6 is the standard Korean work day. 6 19 is Mamamoo's debut date (June 19). Gogobebe is just a fun way of spelling Go, Go, Baby, which means Let's Party! in the context of the song. So the literal translation of the number sequence is "Work, Debut, Work, Party!" which is shorthand for "We've been working nonstop ever since we debuted and it's time to Par- tay!!" The palindrome has an extra level of cleverness cuz, like the cyclical seasons and emotional stages of the 4 Seasons project, the activities in the palindrome cycle endlessly: they work hard as trainees, debut with Mr Ambiguous, work hard to promote it, come back with Piano Man, work hard to promote it, etc, etc.
Thank you so much for your comment! As always, your comments are invaluable because they help me appreciate this project even more by learning all the details. I love how every single detail crafted by Mamamoo is always so well thought out and never left to chance. I absolutely need to check out the rock version of GogoBebe
@@queenshipkpop 👍😊 Here's a link to the rock version they performed with Onewe at the 2019 Genie Music Award Show. It's on MNET so they might block reactions but check it out anyway: ruclips.net/video/e6lCZBP7PWQ/видео.html
OH, you need to hear and see the ROCK version of Gogobebe! They sang it at the M2 X GENIE MUSIC AWARDS (The MGMA's), and it was a Great performance, but being an Awards Show, they went full out compared to other groups, But not Mamamoo "Full Out". When you compare it to their concert performances of it, well the concert performances are soooo much better LOL! Because they get to really enjoy themselves. So here is a fancam from their 2023 MyCon World Tour (which was FREAKING AMAZING!! I went to the Atlanta show!) Mamamoo (마마무) - Gogobebe Rock ver. (고고베베) | MyCon in Fort Worth - ruclips.net/video/qRQpOVVJqbU/видео.htmlsi=eBOrulvlqvi1TYXJ and so you can compare, if you would like to, here is the MGMA performance, which again, is Spectacular. Please don't think I'm saying it isn't. They just don't get to let loose, like they do in concert. MAMAMOO, Rapercussion_Bridge-NANTA Perf./MAMAMOO-gogobebe (ROCK ver.) - ruclips.net/video/e6lCZBP7PWQ/видео.htmlsi=O8uNn8nJ9ObNI6aR I absolutely agree with you Berry, Gogobebe is an AMAZING song! Mamamoo just doesn't miss, they are such a spectacular group of Artists, and their music is just beyond words, it's why I got (and am still so frustrated) that they didn't go Global, when other groups who aren't even close to as talented have. It just doesn't make any sense, and it's sooooo FRUSTRATING!!! Also, I hope you are doing yourself a favor and listening to ALL of the songs on their albums. Please make sure to do that. Mamamoo is the first and only group I have found in my 54 years that I can say I love every song, on every album. I've NEVER been able to do with any other group, or solo Artist in my lifetime (and I'm including their Collabs, OSTs, CFs). To be honest, for their solo music I can't say the same except for Hwa Sa, so far I have loved all of her music, but the other members not every song, but they each have a lot that I do really, really love. (and, again I'm including all Collabs, OSTs, CFs, and Duets). OH, and since I am talking about Solo music, did you know Hwa Sa just released a new song with her producer, and long time friend PWS(LOGOS)? He has produced most, if not all of her solo work, including her "Maria" album. He's amazing. It's called "Star". It's a ballad, PWS wrote it (with Hwa Sa in mind, and it's absolutely stunning! Hwa Sa's voice will melt you, the production, and music is top tier, so they match perfectly with Hwa Sa's vocals. The first link is the Offical MV, and the second is the lyric video, but it's not the usual type, it was made by PWS, so it has Hwa Sa in it, singing into a mic, with the live band playing, while the english subs go across the screen. So they are BOTH, a must watch!!
Thank you so much for your comment! I'm really curious to listen to the rock version of Gogobebe! I completely agree with you: Mamamoo are extraordinary. Every project they do is so well-made and carefully crafted. I also plan to check out Hwasa's new song, thank you so much!
Gogobebe was on Killing Voice. I agree with below to watch the rock version. They have an album called Mamamoo:The best where they've put up more dramatic or concert versions of their songs. Gogobebe rock version and Egoistic burning sun version are my favorites. 😍 A sidenote. The volume of your videos is too low compared to your voice audio.
Mamamoo - Um Oh Ah Yeah is my favorite MV in Kpop.

Ok, I have to recover this album! Thank you so much for letting me! I was afraid that the song could cover my voice. I have to put up the volume
