MAMAMOO joins the ranks of Destiny's Child, The Spice Girls, and TLC as the ONLY girl groups to sell over 70,000 tickets on their FIRST tour in the USA. @@wj0067 yes they were invited but only because MMM couldn't go. BP wasn't the first choice. That's why they didn't perform at the main stage, unlike now in 2023. BP had all the luck and money. I'm glad MMM isn't an overhyped group because they can focus on the music instead. Hype will fade away, talent won't.

Mamamoo is also one of the few kpop girl groups that have a HUGE following in the latin american countries (boy groups tend to be more popular). Some years ago they had a concert/fanmeeting in Brazil and fans were crazy!
as a long time MooMoo, i wont forget how LOUD brazils fanchants were. I remember a LONG time ago hearing the brazilian crowd actually singing the korean lyrics with them. Korea maybe mamamoos number 1 fan, but Brazil is definitely mamamoos number 2 fan.
Brazilian crowds are the best. They will sing the whole song with the artists. Their Egotistic performance still gives me chills.
I watched this video like 10 times and still making me sad. Grown men don't cry just cutting onions, right?😅 Also, I know these girls suffered a lot, even before they wanted to be singers. But honestly, it's weird to say this, but I'm glad their road was rocky, because if they could have a chance to debut at a big company they would be forced to do something they don't want to do. I don't remember which Legendary artist said it, probably a lot of them did, and it's not a direct quote: "The most tortured artists will live forever in the hearts of many people. Doesn't matter what they do, singing, painting, etc. They understand pain, and that's why they can reach the hearts of so many people."
it's always the artists from the smaller companies that make such a big difference! there are definitely artists from the big 3 who have also done revolutionary things but nine times out of ten, they don't have to because they don't have to work hard in order to get recognized. mamamoo has made such a difference in the industry, it's clear by the way even other idols respect and look up to them so much.
Love your videos. It's hard to react to probably the most consistent, talented group in the business. It should also be noted, other groups aspire to their talent. When on Queendom, all the other groups were asked who they didn't want to face. Mamamoo was the unanimous answer. They all said they wanted them as mentors. Mamamoo on award shows is a whole other thing. Other groups love them. I say this with the utmost respect for the other groups. These men and women work hard for their craft. Mamamoo is just different. Keep up the great videos. Mamamoo Monday should go on for about 3 years with all their content. Cheers

I particularly loved this reaction & what I'm about to say isn't hate in anyway just an opinion i guess but i hate(or is dislike a better word?) when reactors sometimes says "I'm sorry i didn't react as much etc." Just because they were quite at times i hope you guys are aware that thats a valid reaction as well you dont have to force yourself to talk about every little thing in a video sometimes the quietness speaks for itself & this time it really did & i enjoyed the few comments you guys had during & afterwards ❤😊

Wow, thanks for this reaction to Mamamoo. This only gave me more respect and love for these women. Incredibly talented, confident and beautiful intelligent women. Underrated, absolutely, but being the intelligent women they are they know what they're doing. Let's face it, they as well as most fans know that their style of music and being an older group will hinder trying to compete with younger groups performing songs,styles and genres of music more popular around the world. But.... to the MooMoos who followed them from their debut to now and all the new fans since, who appreciates Mamamoo's style and versatility we know how top tier they are. IMO now, they aren't underrated anymore. This is one of the rare Kpop groups that even fandoms from other groups love and respect them, even the groups themselves . No, not anymore. They fought and battled through adversity in a cruel industry and earned the love and respect of fans all over the world. Underrated.. not any longer. IMO.

Btw, it's not that the members chose to sign with RBW so they could have the artistic freedom to chart their own path. RBW plucked them off the trash heap of audition rejects and retreads from other companies. RBW was their only or last chance rather than their first choice. Solar failed about 50 auditions and didn't even bother auditioning for SM because she was thought to be too old (she was over 20). As you know, Hwasa was shown the door after at least one audition where she was bluntly told she was fat and ugly. Moonbyul and Wheein signed with RBW after failing to debut at another company. RBW deserves credit for selecting the members based on their vocal talent, creativity and performance skills first and foremost. As opposed to the usual girl group formula (cute young girls doing matching music) RBW had the novel idea of promoting MMM as artists rather than teen idols. RBW was warned by industry insiders that Mamamoo would fail miserably but fortunately they didn't tell the girls and encouraged them to do their thing.
I think there's another factor in their rise from less than zero to kpop icons that rarely gets mentioned, Solar's leadership. Tho she's crackhead #1 in one of if not the most chaotic girl gang in kpop she's also the most disciplined, driven, organized and hard working member of the group and I've always suspected the main reason the other three call themselves The Loser Crew is that they know they can't keep up with their yeba leader when she's on a mission. You don't hear much about it and Solar doesn't toot her own horn but in MMM-TV footage you see glimpses of it when the members thank her for everything she does behind the scenes and express concern that she's working too hard. Solar is called the Mom of Mamamoo and I think that's a great way to describe her leadership style - she makes sure their artistic house is clean and well-organized, the kids do their homework, and that their home is a nurturing environment where everyone feels free to express themselves fully and pursue their dreams while having a ton of fun along the way.
The video doesn't really explain why MMM is the most underrated kpop group but to put the underrated claim in perspective, MMM group and solo albums sell around 100K whereas the most popular kpop groups' albums sell in the millions, even rookie groups who imo can't hold a candle to Mamamoo in terms of talent.
100% agree in re: Solar. I don't think they would be where they are now without her drive to succeed. For AFTR: Solar regularly puts in 12-15 hour days, getting to work at 8 a.m. or earlier and not getting home until after 9 p.m. I suspect Moonbyul actually makes her stay home sometimes and take a break.
not to mention, that Solar is the embodiment of independent woman. if there was EVER a kpop idol to be considered independent and "dont need no man" its Solar. her personality and overall attitude of "doing what I want" most DEFINITELY rubbed off to the members. though each member is unique and independent in their own ways, having their Leader be Solar definitely assistant in nurturing their independent attitudes.

Ah finally Monday! I greatly enjoy your MMM reactions and your thoughts about the things you see.
I m not sure if you know this but regarding the part where even the higher ups of big shows, like MMA, warned RBW to controle Mamamoo, otherwise they will not be succsessful bewilders me to say the least. At least to me it often feels like "They are ahead of their time", Korea isn t ready yet.
And since i already mentioned it, maybe you would like to see how Mamamoo can spit if there are p.....ssed. MMA 2019 would be my recommendation.

I think we are lucky Mamamoo started with a new company like RBW. The group would have been so different with an easy path. What they had to go through made them who they are. They had to fight every day and they did it with respect of the others. It's one of the reason people became their fans (and why they have fans so peacefull and carring) .
don't worry about any bitch face you see in yourself, to me it's a "this is interesting and informative enough i feel the need to really pay attention" face which is always a good thing for these types of videos imo ^_^ as much as i love laughing along with you to their constant chaos it's nice to step back and really look at their artistry like this, since they really can do it all

Regarding your brief discussion at the end: while RBW was good in terms of artistic freedom, they were/are majorly lacking in promotion and protection of the girls. (At a base level, the lack of subs on mmm videos has been a forever issue, as you've come across.) There's always going to be pros & cons to every company, and I'm personally glad Wheein & Hwasa are no longer with rbw, but fans' perspective will never have the full picture so imo the best thing we can do is just support our girls ❤️. Mmm has come a long way, built themselves from the ground up, and that was a wonderful, new video highlighting them; so glad you reacted to and enjoyed it!

I think when they dressed as teletubbies is the most iconic. Just imagine if spice girls or little mix dress like that to the brit.
N i agree w/ u 100% that they r what they r bcoz they come from small label. One of the thing i find endearing from them is their teamwork. Like, one member would randomly start a song then others would join in chorus n harmony; all In the flip of a coin.
I think that could only come from this camaraderie they have from having had to struggle from ground up. Unlike groups w/ bigger funding; they didnt hv any1else to depend on except for themselves.
i also think coming from small label kept them humble, grounded, n strive to better themselves. Their own considerate personalities prob help 2. Who knows how many times weve seen artists get big headed once they get a little bit of fame (or nowadays tiktockers).
The downside is that they underestimate themselves 2 much. Its obvious from their "world" (only asia n usa actually) tour that they cant believe that how many ppl would come n see them.
One of the reason why they r under rated, i believe, is bcoz their music is somewhat bween western pop ( which is more melody, voice oriented) n kpop (which is more beat n dance oriented). So ppl who like kpop 4 its glamourous n upbeat style might find MMM to be a little slow n dull. On the other hand ppl who like western pop might find their stlyle to kpopy.
Or, as others hv said kpop is not a genre, its an industry. Its hard to market smth in bween.

just a quick response to what you said about mamamoo members not being with the big 3 because it wouldn't have suited them.. it's simply not true. as they've said in many an interview, the girls were not conventionally pretty, had neither the height or typical idol figure they were looking for, so it's very likely they wouldn't have made it through the door if they even tried to audition. solar, for example, failed 30 auditions before rbw took her on! i'll bet everyone who passed on the girls are kicking themselves now though. :))

Maybe I am one of the only people out there who strongly dislikes the "Why MAMAMOO is the most UNDERRATED K-Pop Group" video.
Whilst I appreciate it was an opinion piece, because realistically that is what it is, the opinions are very westernized and biased. It, imo, tried to view everything Mamamoo do, Korea does, the perception of things through a very, very western lens. It personally rubbed me the wrong way. Very unbalanced.
I.E, Even though I have Korean heritage, I'm not overly fond of Korea, however, just because a culture is "conservative" doesn't mean it's bad. If the west is so pro-respect of values, then leave other cultures alone, don't judge them by your standards.
