    Mike, great series. I watched the receiver videos too. I really enjoyed looking over your shoulder as you walk us through these old radios. My dad had one of the receivers, but I think he took parts out of it. He did have a BC348 that I played with as a kid (1970s). And, Linc W2QY gave me my novice test back in about 1968. My novice transmitter was an Ameco AT1 that I built. I think they sold for $14.95 or something. I wished I still had it.

    I’ve decided to take up Morse code, after seeing the genuine excitement coursing through your veins on this video. I’m certain that you maybe laugh at this gesture, because it can’t be all that difficult to learn, and in a short time too, no? I’m thinking of those old movies where the nerdy ham operator saves the day, the protagonist, the damsel in distress, and the World, and the whole moral of the story is “Be sure to commit yourself to your Morse Code fluency!” The pace from the video doesn’t seem altogether rushed or frantic, so I think it ought to be a fun time to at least see how well I could get in one weekend. Thanks so much for putting these videos together and posting them here, I really enjoy your enthusiasm that can’t be faked! When I see it I know I’m not incorrectly perceiving it, it’s absolutely genuine. I find it a curiosity really, and quite astonishing how inspired I am by your enthusiasm. Thanks again!

    Hi Mike, many thanks for these very well made and fascinating videos, and also those about the receivers too. Great to see you use them on-air as well. I'm gonna try and score a receiver on ebay if I can; I note that a fairly complete BC455A went for £21.00 recently (about $31) which is affordable; maybe they are less common over here than in the US so I might have to wait a while though! Just found your videos. Awsome. I was just asked by a good customer to restore the ARC-5 and AN/GRC-9. Wondering if I could pick your brain.

    Looks Like you and I do a lot of the same things .I just bought an ARC-5 BC-459 40 mtr at Fort Wayne In. Hamfest plan on putting it on the air soon and just completed construction of a WW2 Paraset replica with the regen RX in it works great that is on youtube . I watched the Old round church video you posted too . Our little country church just celebrated 175 years anniversary here in Cassopolis Michigan I helped clean 60 years of crud out of the bell area in the steeple and got to ring the bell for the celebration for the first time in ? 60 years ? . Take a look at our church facebook page look up "Cassopolis united Methodist church"
    Thanks for the great info on the ARC-5 TX . 73 Sparky / BOB W9RAS

    Superb! Loved every one of these. I picked up one this past summer at manassas hamfest, which will need some cleaning and work, you have inspired me to go for it! Big ups to the AWA, I am guessing you are a member? thanks

    I stumbled on your ARC-5 transmitter series and ended up staying up late to view the entire series. Very well done! What are your thoughts on getting the command set receivers on the air?

    Muy bueno el video,necesito si usted me ayudaria a decirme las modificaciones para un
    ARC-5 de 7Mhz. Obtuve uno y no tiene mucha excitacion la etapa final,las valvulas son nuevas y quizas haya que conectar tension negativa a las grillas de las 1625 creo. Si me puede guiar estaria muy agradecido. Mis respetuosos saludos. Walter... LW3EXC desde Argentina

    Just curious--How was sidetone handled back in the day (in military service)? Surely, they did not just key into an open receiver, right?

    • @MIKROWAVE1
      @MIKROWAVE1  7 лет назад

      The receiver's antenna input was always disconnected by relays on key down (TX) and the audio was switched out and an adjustable sidetone was generated by the modulator in almost all cases and delivered in its place. But it was full break-in; meaning on key up in CW, you were in instant receive. The ART-13 is like this too. The TCS just kills the RX on TX so lots of clanking.

    how do you tune the inductor?

    • @MIKROWAVE1
      @MIKROWAVE1  7 лет назад +1

      You just put your thumb on the serrated edge of the knob, to roll the inductor back and forth and watch the meter for output power.

    • @generoll4027
      @generoll4027 6 лет назад

      ok, I guess I was wondering about the whole processing. tuning the coupling and the inductor. without a meter is there a way to match the radio to a random antenna?
