When you jumped on it in the video I heard it poppin. That's exactly how my motor was popping in my blazer. And it was a bad intake lobe on the cam
I have a 70 nova and its the car i fell in love with in high school in 1984 Ive had just about every year nova over the years but the 70 is my fav. Keep up the great work, your son will remember this time with you all his life and probably be a car guy because of it.
Thanks brother! He sure is being molded to become a car guy, he loves anything with a cam in it!
yes indeed, i was class of 84 and my buds and me all drove early 70s Novas.350 4bbl and a stick was my grim reaper of choice. After work on Saturday's my buds would meet in the court i lived on and it was GOBELS beer for all. my next-door neighbor was a chomo, child molester and i had a 73 beater that a bought for a 1/4oz of shake and it leaked every fluid on board. I parked it in front of that jack wads house and me and the boys would dance on top of it to Billy Idol. they put the house up for sale and the clown sent his poor wife over to ask me to move it somewhere else. I asked her to send hubby over and she came back with a $100 to move it but i politely declined the offer. those were the days
Even as it sits, it’s a such a sharp car and has a ton of potential, I’d definitely do a newer LS SWAP, excellent video 👍
Agree. Cool Nova
Always loved those cars for some reason
They have definitely had a place in my heart, my old man had a 68 and 69 when I was my son's age
Awesome I love it that's all I want my 79 z28 Camaro for is to go cruising and enjoys looking at other rides at car show's ❤
Yessir
Ooo... That takes me back.
Enjoyed the way an talked in the video my man you got my sub
Thank you brother!
Perfect cruiser you wont be scared to beat on and enjoy, if the filler falls out somewhere its just another scar that gives it character.
That backfire, fire and coast down the hill was hilarious. Reminded me of my old 63 stepside that turned up fine doing a burnout moved about 3’ shifted second and popped….kicked a rod, broke the cam but had enough momentum to coast into the shop driveway😂😂. Good times
Hahahaha
Great video. I'm a nova guy. Looks like you have a good one to start with. Get it running right and enjoy it as you make plans for it. Take your little guy for a lot of rides so he can continue your visions. If that is 13 to 1 on pump gas, that might be the problem, lol. Thank you for the video. I will subscribe to watch your progress.
Thanks for subscribing! I'm going to stick a borescope in one of the holes and see if it's got a dome piston or not
You're welcome. Yea, I would say it does , if its really 13 to 1. @@colemanmech
@@tonywest8140 Hey man, I took my borescope and looked, it does indeed have dome pistons. I'm going to pull the motor this week and inspect it. Im pretty positive it has worn a cam lobe or 5 off. Tear it down, clean it, I've got a nice .531/.541 hydraulic roller I want to put in it
Heck yea. Time for some engine fun. All that compression probably wore that cam out. Keep me posted. Lets see some more videos of you build. Thanks. @@colemanmech
That motor that was in the car ended up being junk. I swapped in a 383
Bro, if it's back, firing through the intake when you're giving it gas. That usually is a sign of a bad intake lobe on the cam
Yeah I know. Im pretty sure the previous owner wiped a lobe off when he "switched" cams. Probably couldn't get it to run right and lost hope
good starting point.
Yessir, thank you for watching
That thing just needs some love. Should be a fun driver once you get the bugs worked out of it.
Yep... '69 is when they stopped the Chevy 2 name and just called it the Nova....👍
I had a '71 as my high school ride and loved it! 😎
You have a car. Everyone wants really desirable nova
Great car
Any solid nova two or four door here in northern ohio is worth more than you think. We just need a good body the rest is easy.
I like your nova score man. I’d like to get something older again soon 68-72 era. I like to cruise
Mine, not wipe
Em down. Go have some fun with that thing
Thanks buddy! I've been thinking of the last few days what the plan will be moving forward on it. I think I'm going to swap in another small block I have and enjoy the car like it is
Yeah man. If it were me and that one is tired I’d do the same thing. Maybe an intake, headers keep the 4 barrel…I gotta check out your Chevelle. It’s getting hard to find good cars you can enjoy like that man. Everything has gotten so expensive. Looks like a good one to me for sure. I’ll have to check out the rest of your videos man. Take it easy buddy, happy holidays to you
Yessir, thank you! Happy holidays, stay blessed
Driver side looks really good, but I wonder just what's hiding under all that filler on the passenger side. I'm guessing someone put a quarter on it and used something like rivets, or possibly glue. It also looks like they patched behind the wheel on that quarter. Is there any blue on the passenger door? It's been worked on too, but that's still a pretty solid car.
You could probably pull that front bumper back straight too.
Those were my thoughts as well. I'm pretty sure its had a quarter, almost afraid to chip the stuff away haha. It's blue in the door jams, someone did a terrible job on painting at some point
The way I resolved this was. I got a roller 350.
No flat tap it
Yeah, I think I'm going to put one of my roller 350s in it. Shouldn't have to worry about wiped out cam lobes. But... I do wanna see the inside of this motor.. it's supposed to have 13:1 domes in it lol. I seriously doubt it
The Cam's probably bad
It definitely is bad. Pulled the motor the other day, tore it down. Worn cam lobe along with a main bearing that's walked out into the crank gear
Are you sure yours is a 70? its the only year they used clear blinker lenses and yours are orange.
Honestly, I'm not sure, partner. The title says 70, but I haven't tried to decode the vin
Please dont TUB it!
Don't worry, I like the stock wheel tubs!
I'm guessing you're in the south, and if that the case, id keep looking. the one you have looks like what me and my friend drove back in the early 80s around Detroit, and that meant salt, plus that motor sounds fubr
You're correct, I am located in the South. That motor was garbage, I've since swapped another motor into it.
