Like with most anime remakes (Urusei yatsura) they did good job with remake. Keeping character style and story identica😊l. Just improved animation. Still it would be nothing without original 😊
I of 2 mines. I Iike the old styles, more charming character designs , and small details. but the modern style in my opinion flows better and has better colors.
First time I learned about the remake. After looking it up, the art style looks nice, and I can recognize the characters, so I have no problems with it.
Personally when it comes to Ranma 1/2 I always leaned towards Shampoo and Ukyo, both are very attractive obviously, but also pretty nice in their own rights. Shampo is very affectionate, strong, and loving, sure she's a little possessive but is capable of restraining herself, while Ukyo is more mature and in control, also affectionate but also blunt when she needs to be and the fact she operates her own business shows she's self sufficient. That said I do also like Female Ranma as I have a bit of a thing for Tomboys, though the fact Ranma is technically a guy who is transformed into a girl by a curse certainly throws a wrench into things.
I don't feel like seeing the new version. But I did enjoy how the manga went through the cast and making more sense on why the girls like the mc since they never knew competition existed until later. Wish more anime did that where the mc meets each girl separately and with being dense you get a scene and then later they all meet up realizing they got competition
Since the remake is made for Netflix instead of Japan, I will not watch the remake, and possibly not even read the manga either. Rumiko Takahashi pretty much killed her own reputation the moment she let Netflix get away with stealing any creator's precious life works, especially with Netflix responsible for the leaks.
For me, my favorite is Ukyo Kuonji. Unlike the others, Ukyo is basically a normal young woman other than her martial arts techniques. To me, she is the girl-next-door of the cast and if she wasn't focused on Ranma she might be able to find a better man for herself (I think that could be Ryoga Hibiki...if he would give up on Akane and see Ukyo as more than just an associate in breaking up Ranma and Akane).
Something that just came to mind is that during the "Cave of Lost Love" story, when Ryoga and Ukyo were fighting the ghosts they were fighting in perfect sync with each other, almost as if they were two parts of the same whole. Another difference between Ukyo and the others seeking Ranma is that she actually cares about Ranma. With the others Ranma is just a prize to be won or someone to exploit (except for Kasumi). Also, Ukyo employs gentle encouragement when seeking Ranma's affection, unlike the others who employ devious, underhanded, and/or dangerous means to snag Ranma.
I recall reading a fair bit into the manga before I was cut off (local library only had a few volumes and I didn’t have any disposable income as a teen) and watched a few of the episodes, but I really enjoyed how new characters were introduced and fleshed out, instead of just being the challenge for the volume and then being cast into the background. Each character had a great buildup and remained in various ways throughout the series.
Oh damn. This is a rumiko classic and I'm happy to see this video. I read the entire manga last year. I should really consider watching the original anime.
I'm hoping that the remake includes the characters/arcs that were in the manga, and we get all the manga only waifus (Rouge, Female Herb, Keima, and Konatsu (yes I'm including them))
Out of all the waifus in the series, Shampoo has always been my favorite - and I consider her to be the best girl in Ranma's harem. Also, out all the Tendo siblings...Nabiki is definitely the sexiest. As for the art style...my favorite is from the OVAs. Though the special episode "Nightmare! Incense of Deep Sleep" had very good animation as well - honestly, I wish they used that style of animation for the reboot.
Curious to see how the remake ends up being and what it ends up doing. The manga has it's fans. The anima has it's fans. The reason why those two tend to be kept in both similar and separate categories is how they... portrayed the Akane, Shampoo, and Ukyo. Akane being the end ship for the managa. Shampoo getting the better shipping fuel for the Anime. Ukyo getting an odd shipping mix with Ranma, Ryoga, and Konatsu. Also mostly curious as a lot of the fandom really wanted a confirmed ending for which girl Ranma ends up with... or if he ends up with multiple girls since the 'harem route' would technically solve a lot of his issues, marriage contracts, and the honor issue with some of the girls... though by that very same logic this isn't technically a harem anime as most harem series have the girls able to get along with one another... and these girls really tend not to get along with one another. Edit) Because it must be said. Akane was a meh pick for me. She never really seemed to progress or get stronger which was why most people viewed her as the damsel in distress as everyone else (even Kuno by a little) got stronger as the series went by. Manga - Supposed to be end ship by default. Anime - Where a lot more of the general dislike from the fandom came from or why she is ranked lower than Ukyo and Shampoo. Shampoo was an odd pick. Anime makes her rank higher. Manga places her in a lower rank. As the Anime confirms that Shampoo really does love Ranma which is where a lot of the Shampoo X Ranma picks came from. The Manga left her in a lower ranking as you never got the direct confirmation like the anime and she is a bit worse personality wise. Most people just remember her in the anime version which isn't a fault, but it does make sense. Ukyo was top pick even if people might find it an odd pick. Manga - Childhood friend... thus doomed to lose. It's a sad fact of Manga/Anime law, but childhood friend = friendzone. Also they gave her the crossdressing boy to try and give the author end toss to claim no Ranma for Ukyo. Anime - A bit nicer and helped fuel the shipping wars and fandom around her. Also again... childhood friend... thus doomed to lose. Though another popular trope that helped fuel the shipping wars was the Rivals x Lovers where a lot of people saw Ryoga without a girl, Ukyo without a boy, both of them rivals to main love interest leads... thus Ryoga X Ukyo was the plan especially since Ukyo does the mobile food stand meaning she could travel with Rygoa without it being that far of a stretch. I mostly picked her as her confirmation for Ranma affection/love was mostly confirmed, she had a set goal which was achievable, and then to top it off... I found her better than the other girls. Manga Shampoo is less endearing that Anime Shampoo.... and Akane? Again... not a fan of her as she... was the least interesting of the bunch. Seriously... Yes Nabiki is a lot less nice than people remember, but I had seen more interesting ideas with Nabiki x Ranma as the two had a lot of similarities and if Ranma showed up as a guy in the intro... she would have snagged him before getting locked in the engagement as the other two sisters would have shoved Nabiki forth like Nabiki and Kasumi pushed Akane forth. And for those asking why that crack ship would work? Ranma isn't a saint. Nabiki certainly isn't a saint. Ranma is the fighter. Nabiki is the brains. They both could easily play off their strengths, weaknesses, and personalities against one another a lot better... Than Akane being a worse martial artist than Ranma who is bad at cooking and gets her main win to Ranma's heart... by simply being there longer than the other girls. Shampoo lost due to the first impression (sword kill female girl) then gets the cat curse.... Ukyo probably would have won if she appeared in the story earlier, but at that point Akane won due to her being around Ranma longer and... possible stockhold syndrom.... To be clear that last part is mostly due to their parents. Soun and Genma constantly tell Ranma he has to marry Akane. That he is the one who has to run the dojo after they get married... when the marriage agreement gets moved onto to Nabiki when Akane got frustrated... The parents didn't give a damn and said that Ranma has to marry Nabiki. The fact she could say 'I love you' was enough to get Ranma to rethink it (until he finds the truth)... It is kind of clear that with Genma being main/only adult influence that usually forces Ranma to go along with whatever he says... Getting told repeatedly by Genma that he has to marry Akane day in and day out... that probably leaves an affect on you. Yes by the end it is supposed to be confirmed that the two do love one another... but throw in the anime with the other two girls... how quickly everyone in cannon seemed ready to shove Nabiki and Ranma together... seriously if Ranma didn't overhear Nabiki or if Nabiki actually decided to go on that date as a joke.... we might have gotten a very different story. Sorry for the crazy rant explanation, but it's been a while and not everyone remembers why certain ships were done and why certain people might be expecting an entirely different anime than the one we might end up getting... especially since Manga is Akane shipping... and classic Anime is dump Akane and grab Ukyo or more likely Shampoo as the main girl.
At least the reboot may ACTUALLY finish up the manga. It is just how much will they skip over to finish and the seasons to do it. I mean Urusei Yatsura did 2 seasons to go through the entire series.
Very hard to choose ! Akane is the obvious choice and the only I want to end up with Ranma, she is great and all... but I have a soft spot for Shampoo.
Some notes here: 1. For Anime Nabiki, she actually seems to have a rather soft spot for Kasumi. Could be Kasumi good nature overrides Nabiki's bad nature, but you do see Nabiki unusually caring for her sister. 2. Kasumi does have one weird vice, that being weird things. She seems to like them. 3. Ling Ling and Lung Lung predate Pink and Rink, so they weren't a swap out. This also goes for Anna from the anime verses Akari from the manga. 4. And no Kogane?! I'm disappointed! Creepy ghost girl needs her love! And she is recurring, so that's not an excuse!
Ah, Ranma 1/2. Memories. I remember learning about this series during the early days of the internet especially… the doujins. Shampoo is my favorite girl and would love to marry her. As for female Ranma, very cute I’ll admit. And she’s an inspiration for one of my characters called Raine Satome who is a Red hair with pigtails. Though she’s got feelings for the MC’s best friend and is a stern older sister personality. I love Harem stories. Even got an idea of one with an Oni Princess, Elf Kunoichi, Genie Girl, Dragon Girl, etc… as the MC travels the world helping those and the girls fall for him. Though instead of competing they all don’t mind sharing him, but he has a more monogamy headset and the girls try various things to open up his mind to a Harem. Anyway. I love old school anime and the girls of that era.
I remember preferring Shampoo among the three main fiancees since I thought she was the best match, especially in the early parts of the series. Then came all the underhanded drugging while Akane became more tolerable. A part of me has this conspiracy theory that Takahashi intentionally made Shampoo like that to avoid another Lum situation. For clarification, Lum was supposed to stay the villain of Ataru and Shinobo's romance but was so popular that she became the main love interest.
@@josephlankford5541 it s not really à conspiracy theory lol she acknoledge that she indeed tried to avoid a Lum situation. I still finf Shampoo very likable and it s hard for me to decide which one of the two is the best.
To be honest, Ranma 1/2 one of the first animes that I watched with my older sister when I was a young boy at the time. In truth my first start of appreciation of the tomboy type characters on females is because of one character from Ranma 1/2 Akane Tendo either you like or dislike her, but to me it was thanks to Akane Tendo that it made me start to appreciate the Tomboy type characters on females.
I appreciate Ranma ½ so much that all its waifus have lives and aspirations beyond winning their crush. Too much modern anime has their waifus be nothing but laser focused on getting their man. They need to learn from this series.
I would always love the classic Ranma 1/2 anime. Mostly because trying to get all Urasei Yatsura anime wasn't possible where I lived in the world, but I did get a few DVDs of Ramna 1/2 but couldn't get it all due to cost of getting all 7 seasons. These days, I regret not going the extra mile to get them all. I did get the movies because the Summer Beach Movie was the best one.
All the hijinks aside, Shampoo and Ukyo would probably make the best wives for Ranma. They are both very passionate, feminine, caring and dote on Ranma in their own ways-- they definitely have a lot of wifely attributes.
She is considered to be the most sexy female human character ever to be made by Rumiko. Sure, she still has that trait in the remake, but like the nipples on Lum and the pink T-shirt on Ataru in the Urusei Yatsura remake, there is a 3/4 chance the Netflix Ranma 1/2 remake will be censored from the source.
I agree with a lot of what this channel usually says ,but if these people think that the recent readaptation of Uresei Yatsura was well done then they likely either have never watched the original anime adaptation of Uresei Yatsura to begin with or they simply forgot alot of things that happened in the original anime adaptation!!!
You're absolutely right. I haven't watched enough of the original, but I do really like the art style of the remake, even if it doesn't hit all the same plot beats.
I think Ranma should always be referred to as a "he", even in his female form, as he's still a boy "inside" (even though, as the video pointed out, he won't shy away from using his female form to his advantage, however unscrupulous he might be).
Last time I was so not quite timely I was not on transit back home from a visit to my parents. Last time I was not quite so timely I was visiting Jusenkyo for training ...
I remember a strange mini arc in that a french guy get in love with female Ranma, and to makes sure that Ranma stay like a woman, somehow, he managed to made her wear a tight harness in her body, that was secured with chains and a lock to avoid that Ranma could take it off her, and forces Ranma to stay like a woman, as the harness will harm her/him if she/he return to be a man again. And to be free from this situation, Ranma and the French guy competed in a kind of food contest, in that if Ranma wins, she will get the harness removed, but if the french guy wins, then Ranma should marries him. A very weird and funny mini-arc.
As I remember it, the duel was in fast eating (anything can be martial art here) but with twist that you must not be seen eating. Ranma was using this crazy contraption on boiling water cattles to train - every time she, fails the hot water would change her back to boy and some kind of chastity belt will... cause him much pain. It was part of training - way to motivate him/herself. The duel has unexpected solution, one of my fav episodes.
I love that i am seeing more and more Ranma videos on my recommendations page despite the crappy copyright takedowns by ShoPro 😅 Would love to hear your opinions on the remake. I provided my own insight based on what was shown in the latest trailer 😊
Both the Tendo and Saotome families are highly-traditional, but yes, the adults are all idiots, perhaps as a way of keeping the comedy. Well okay, not only the adults. All the Jusenkyo Cursed could have been cured if they just went back to Jusenkyo, but Takahashi always made that basically impossible.
Best Ranma girl (not Ran-ko itself) is Shampoo... best waifu, no, ultimate waifu is Katsumi... I love Akane as character, but girlfriend?... besides in the OVAs the females characters are hotter, but TV's characters are funnier... more comical...
I vaguely remembered this show OWN the fact that it's made by the same person who made inuyasha and I can feel the resemblance. That and the fact that I also value remember the girls but I think I liked 2 of them namely shampoo and kasumi. Shampoo because a girl that's very forward like that is definitely a plus minus the cat curse and Kasumi because you can't go wrong with like a sweetheart older sister type. Akane I tried to like her but I couldn't really because she just screamed every single red flag that I don't like about a female character overly angry, pissed off and I think she was the first Tsundere which REALLY did not help her case with me, even if she DOES have cute moments and the money loving sister IS hot but even she is a I don't know. And female Ranma is just a HUGE mental question of I think I can smash but you're still a dude so is it gay or not which is why I would probably use weird magic nonsense to split both the male and female halves therefore my brain would not be so confused. In the end the girls in this series are pretty much hit and miss with me and honestly I wouldn't like a good majority of them but it is nice that you bring this series attention especially since we're supposed to be getting a remake..... Still questioning why is that getting a remake. Anyway great job Dai!
My main worry is the 'modern audience' and the shit-fits they're likely to have over certain aspects of this show. I do not look forward to that bullshit.🙄 That being said, as someone who's Ranma ½ was one of the first manga I collected and one of the anime I have VHS of to the point where my entire collection took up an entire large bookcase, I still prefer the older art style, but if the newer pulls off the fights and martial arts slapstick well I'll love it.
Tbf back in those days being gay/trans wasn't as accepted to the general populace, so I can't fault the mom doesn't invalidate your feelings for her though
Making content for Netflix is proving to bankrupt any company, especially with the leaks going on. Anime should be made for Japan in hard, offline copies.
thanks to talentless hacks in Hollywood California whenever I hear the word "remake" I instinctually recoil in disgust. I hope this changes but it doesn't look like it will for at least another 10 years :(
He's not even the worst in Takahashi canon. Mr. Fujinami from Urusei Yatsura, who has tried to literally beat his daughter into believing she's actually a boy for her entire life, and Sabato Rokudo from Rin-ne, who has been financially abusing his son for said son's entire life and in the present runs an illegal business that literally kills people for money, are way worse than Genma.
Anyone but Akane. Almost any woman in this series is better, in general. Both she and Ranma have their own seperate issues and should move on from each other.
Based on what we've seen so far, do you prefer the remake's artstyle, or the original?
Like with most anime remakes (Urusei yatsura) they did good job with remake. Keeping character style and story identica😊l. Just improved animation. Still it would be nothing without original 😊

Ranma is a good classic to make yin & yang fun!
Nabiki is my favorite because she's calm & cunning on scheming moments
Omg, same. Although, the eldest sister made me pause for moment or two.
She's fun to watch an would be great catch... IF you can match her in scheming and general assholeness.
I love her so much.
I rather liked the eldest tendo sister for how sweet and utterly oblivious she could be.

In addition to waifus, this is a good explanation of the series in general
@@Torikame1 Indeed. It's the waifu that excite me most though, so that's the lens through which I approach each series^^

Shampoo was one of my first anime crushes, as well as Yuri from Dirty Pair Flash. Guess I had a thing for girls with long purple hair...still do.
Dirty Pair Flash is soooo good!!!
I loved the original Ranma ovas and series. I hope the remakes have the same ecchi and show nudity... which the original shows had.
Nabiki was the sexiest one, girl Ranma second, the black rose girl that was kendo guy's sister 3rd.
Nabiki is also the most dangerous one, you will end brokeheart an broke with this one.
I love her so much.

Yeah, the films and OVAs were handled brilliantly.
Eather monster Masumi or Rosario Vampire. Would be a great next file.
All the hijinks aside, Shampoo and Ukyo would probably make the best wives for Ranma. They are both very passionate, feminine, caring and dote on Ranma in their own ways-- they definitely have a lot of wifely attributes.
Nabiki is part of the Penniesless Martical Arts... lol
Cudos for the thumbnail I saw for this: Nibiki Tendoh is the best girl in Ranma 1/2 (certainly the best of the sisters).
Ranma has a will of steel because if a cute girl like Shampoo shows up at my house saying “I love you” I would’ve folded instantly
Ukyo. Every time. She's a sweetie. Maybe Shampoo, but definitely Ukyo.
I see Nabiki, I click.
Last time I was so not quite timely I was not on transit back home from a visit to my parents.
Last time I was not quite so timely I was visiting Jusenkyo for training ...
Nabiki has always been one of my anime crushes despite being a straight up gold digger.
Yes. I remember that.
Ah yes that is a thing that happens. It is a very goofy duel.
Im honestly surprised that you haven't done one of these for Amagami 😅
Good Japanese pronunciation!
I love that i am seeing more and more Ranma videos on my recommendations page despite the crappy copyright takedowns by ShoPro 😅
Would love to hear your opinions on the remake. I provided my own insight based on what was shown in the latest trailer 😊
I heard the remake will without a doubt be censored, the standards are no where near the same as anime was 30 years ago, unfortunately. 😮💨
@@Mecks089 That happened to the Urusei Yatsura remake as well. Japan should have learned to never make content for Netflix nor Sony.
Thankfully there are pockets of pushback, take the recent Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete, or Elf-san Wa Yaserarenai anime for example.
Next you shoudl ABSOLUTELY do Black Clover
Kodachi and Azusa are my Waifus
Kasumi is the best female character by Rumiko Takahashi for being cute and sexy at once.
Please do take a look at the Waifus of the Xenoblade Chronicles
or Digimon Adventure.
This was a perfect chance for you to try and get a colab with Djclyve the king of ranma character info
Never heard of them. Sorry :(
@@otakudaikunit’s ok if you never heard of him but he is really cool and has made a profile video of every ranma character both anime and manga
Nabiki was so HOT.
Dangerously hot, she will leave you brokeheart & broke.
Totally Shampoo
Maybe a Pokémon special episode please.
My main worry is the 'modern audience' and the shit-fits they're likely to have over certain aspects of this show. I do not look forward to that bullshit.🙄
That being said, as someone who's Ranma ½ was one of the first manga I collected and one of the anime I have VHS of to the point where my entire collection took up an entire large bookcase, I still prefer the older art style, but if the newer pulls off the fights and martial arts slapstick well I'll love it.
so did you do anything on the best character is the show Ryoga?
two thumbs up!
Tbf back in those days being gay/trans wasn't as accepted to the general populace, so I can't fault the mom doesn't invalidate your feelings for her though
You don't KILL your son over it tho. That's unhinged even decades ago.
Making content for Netflix is proving to bankrupt any company, especially with the leaks going on. Anime should be made for Japan in hard, offline copies.
Can you do a Waifu Files on Sailor Moon?
@@noahthepokemaster1572 it's definitely one I'd like to do.
@@otakudaikun my favorite Waifu from Sailor Moon is Sailor Mercury/Ami Mizuno
Akane
All of this was top tier. For me Kasumi, Uyko, Shampoo, the adopt sisters and Kodachi are on my list. Im weird i know
So when are we gonna get Waifu Files on BlazBlue? Now that's something I'd like to see you try to cover.
@@StarforceOnAir I wish BlazBlue had a better anime. Is there one game that has ALL the characters?
Great video Dai-chan!
Maybe they never say anything more, but isnt the girl ranma turns into a princess? Was anything more said about her?
I actually don't recall. It never stood out to me.
thanks to talentless hacks in Hollywood California whenever I hear the word "remake" I instinctually recoil in disgust. I hope this changes but it doesn't look like it will for at least another 10 years :(
Now THIS is about to be some heat🔥🔥
16:52 how many martial arts people are there
Don't have a number, but literally everything in that show lol
7:47
Nabiki
Genma gets the worst father of all time award
I can think of worse lol
Genma is a strong contender, but Shou Tucker is still the reigning champion.
To words, dude, gendo ikari
He's not even the worst in Takahashi canon. Mr. Fujinami from Urusei Yatsura, who has tried to literally beat his daughter into believing she's actually a boy for her entire life, and Sabato Rokudo from Rin-ne, who has been financially abusing his son for said son's entire life and in the present runs an illegal business that literally kills people for money, are way worse than Genma.
@MrNetWraith I just realize that Takahashi is good at drawing deadbeat fathers.
Anyone but Akane. Almost any woman in this series is better, in general. Both she and Ranma have their own seperate issues and should move on from each other.
My top 5 waifus from this awesome anime:
#1 - Ukyo
#2 - Shampoo
#3 - Akane
#4 - Female Ranma
#5 - Kodachi
Could you at least have taught the AI the proper pronunciations of various names and the title of the anime?
@@teto85 Believe it or not that's my actual human performance, which means the pronunciations are correct and you're very mistaken.
