The fire belly toad enclosure is mine! Yes the plants are all real, and they all grow... well, like weeds. I have to trim the thing constantly. I think you were talking about the ficus in the top left corner when you were wondering if there are fake plants, but nope, its just a very, very happy plant. That's a ledge up there, and there's always at least one frog hiding in the leaves. There are a bunch of fish in there too. Espei rasboras, celestial pearl danios, daisy rice fish, and a pair of honey gouramis. I have a bunch of other enclosures, but this is by far my most successful. Some cool herp homes; I love that fire toad enclosure, so beautiful!. I made the 'trees' on either side of the Chapala garter tank out of PVC pipes covered in cocofibre mat and then bark. The tubing for the intake and outflow plumbing for the filtration runs through the tubes so they stay hidden. The fake plants up high are only there until the ivy and pothos on the ground level establish and make their way up. Great video!
Question! How do you deep clean the water area if something like algae were to grow? I love this enclosure but I worry about the time commitment to maintenance! (I am disabled so I have to be careful about that kind of thing.)
@@r.nicogorodetzky3084 I just use a scraper to clean the algae and a gravel vacuum to suck up gunk from the bottom when it's time for a water change/filter clean. You could also use some algae eaters to help keep the algae under control. I would avoid algae eating fish in case the garters try to eat it (some have spines and some fish are toxic to garters). There are many species of tiny shrimp that eat algae and would be a safer option.
