It's tough because I've taught myself SQL and Python to a decent level and even passed the LinkedIn tests but recruiters still turn me away because I don't have a degree. Feel like I'm in a losing battle
It's a numbers game. Also it's an ATS game. You need to find every single slight edge to win because the machines turn you away and all you need to do is get in front of more humans. Then it's just a matter of getting better at selling yourself and showing a project that proves you can do it.
Hi Keifer, if you're struggling to land an entry level role as a data analyst then my recommendation would be to pursue an apprenticeship. Apprenticeships pay you a low wage at first but you're employed usually full time and you get to complete a diploma or even a bachelors degree while working. I did this for my first office job and it was one of the best decisions I made throughout my career. I also recommend pursuing a job as a digital analyst, which is very close to being a data analyst, but the industry (from my experience) is much less prone to discriminate based on degree status because there is a digital skills shortage. You can quickly qualify yourself as a digital analyst by taking Google's official Google Analytics, Google Data Studio and Google Tag Manager training and certifications. Obtaining these qualifications will immediately make you more attractive to recruiters. I also recommend freelancing as a good hiring manager will also consider this as experience. Fiverr and upwork is a great place for this.

I really dont know what to think i dont know if people on youtube are just not being real or if they are doing it for their youtube channel to get gullable people subsribed and hopefull or if it really is possible , i have some paranoia i suppose or my doubts you could say , been learning sql for over 6 months now and all i can do is all the easy questions on hackerrank those are the very basics but i know from other sources that that simply isnt enought and i dont know where to learn more advanced concepts i also have a good understanding of python syntax but apart from the syntax i really dont know much , so what would you reccomend for me to learn from this position
I recommend completing the Analyzing and Visualising SQL skill path from codecademy. I also struggled to grasp SQL for years but it never truly stuck with me until after I finished this course. It teaches you advanced concepts and you're also able to revisit course material and take on challenges with public datasets. This is important because SQL is a muscle that you have to keep on using and once you stop using it your expertise of the language can become weaker. With regards to knowing the basics not being enough, I can't speak for all markets but in the UK knowing the basics (along with either prior experience, a degree or a portfolio) will be enough to get you an entry level data/digital analyst role. I know because here we have a tech skills shortage and I've hired people before who've met this criteria. It sounds like you've written off applying with your current knowledge based on what you've heard from other influencers. I suggest brushing up your CV and applying for a few entry roles and see what happens.

hii i am Aleena. i am in high school( last yr 12th grade). I have opted for subject like physics, chemistry, math, computer science and english (which is compulsory ) as i have these subjects i wanted to go in computer science and i guess i like data analyst or cyber security but by comparing i would like to be a data analyst. So where should i get started with after high school. Am i suppose to get certified in SQL, Python and Excel or its okay to learn these languages by someone who knows it same like a tuition but not certified. I am confused with my career as my dad wants me to be an engineer which is not my cup of tea basically i am not at all interested to be an engineer. I want to be some where in a field of computer becoz i have interest in it. if u ask what's being done at school last yr (11th grade) i learned python basics (like list, tuple and dictionary) and i know how it goes. I really don't know how to write programs becoz being in CBSE school they prefer in byhearting things then to understand i won't blame that but some where i feel like we should know computer's practically and not in learning some program and then giving test. we should know what are we doing and what is the use of learning this language rather than to learn things and pass from school just for marks and then to just sit and think how what to do as my career. sorry for such long comment but it will be good to have some advice from ur side thank you
Hi Aleena, after high school I recommend getting fully trained in Excel, SQL, statistics and Python and then Looker Studio, Tableau and Power Bi. Most of these tools you can learn online for free but there are paid courses through codecademy and Udemy that are really useful. You can get professionally certified in Excel, Looker Studio, Power Bi and Tableau which I recommend (Looker Studio is free). Once you've learnt all the necessary skills you can begin applying your knowledge through creating a portfolio. www.kaggle.com/datasets is a great resource of open data sets for you to visualise. You can use the data sources here to create a portfolio using excel, Python, Looker Studio and anything else that you can get your hands on. You can also leverage freelance platforms like Fiverr and upwork to get paid for your knowledge and further grow your portfolio. I hope this helps.
Hello i dont have a degree, i tought myself learn data analytics and i find entry level job on reference in textile with low income, but i want to touch senior level role but all jobs need degree what i can do
If you follow the steps outlined in the video, then you should be in a good position to win a junior or apprentice analyst role. From there, you could work your way up to more senior positions once your experience, knowledge, confidence and leadership qualities fit the criteria.
Having a degree relevant to data analytics such as computer science, math, statistics etc will help your case when trying to land your first data analyst role. However, I wouldn't let an irrelevant degree prevent you from making a career change. Gaining credible data analytics qualifications, creating a portfolio, connecting with recruiters and creating a professional CV will aid you in landing your first data analytics without necessarily having to get a degree.
Do you need a degree? You may not for the more basic data analyst positions. However, the sad reality is that you'll stand no chance against any other applicant for the same position that has a degree. Its 100% no contest.
@@kostasvalanidis7560 Both. If you have no degree then you stand no chance against either. If you have a non related degree, then you stand no chance against related degrees.

Maybe you can take a few programming, math, and software visualization courses online and build a portfolio to showcase your skills to whoever is interviewing you. A masters degree would be the safest bet to very easily break into the field. I would avoid such specific degree like health informatics. You dont want to pigeon hole yourself into just one industry.
