As a sound engineer and producer who works frequently with lo fi recording techniques I have to say that this kind of "rot" can occur on older low quality cd-r's from around the late 90s and early 2000s due to the fact that you literally have to burn data onto some of them. Add to that fact that if it was burnt at the wrong speeds for those discs they will last about 2 months before they start to sound bitcrushed like the songs here but honestly it doesn't take much and can be replicated with some care if you know a thing or two. I know this has been long winded but I have one more small point that the warping you can hear may be from shitty tape they used to record the masters I have to say it is unlikely because if you had warping this bad you would never use those as your masters anyway. Technically it would already be with the seven tracks, as the RIAA defines an album as either five or more tracks at least 15 minutes in length or any amount of tracks if it's at least thirty minutes, but the former definition seems too lenient of a threshhold and unsatisfying

I had a dream last night where I was in some sort of art class and me and a bunch of other students were working on some charcoal drawings. In the class there was a radio playing music and at some point, a song that sounded very much like Kicking Cars started playing and everyone including me began singing along like it was just a pop song that everyone knew like that. It's not all the time that I have these vivid dreams with music I can recognize so distinctly, so for my brain have chosen that song in particular, especially the one with the lyrics that mentions dreaming, it's all very interesting.

Laputa sound like the soundtrack I could've had with a girl I like if I've been more courageous and honest with my feelings. Now, she will forever be my castle in the sky - was so near my grasp but just far enough that I couldn't just touch it or hold it with my arms.
it's weird asf how I've never heard anything about this band and it only took one album (which miraculously reached our ears) for me to need bands with a similar sound to this one.
This was amazing and you can tell this has so much heart and passion and I love it. I love how after all these years they came together to give all the fans a remaster and show that they still have love and passion for music. By the way I'm here from Whang!. Cool video. ^_^
Personally I think this album fits rarely well into the wake of OK Computer. It has similar vibes with the mix of electronic and rock elements with some weird experimentation and generally melancholy tone. The lo-fi rock sound is probably more an element of the recording conditions, but it’s not like weird lo-fi rock was unheard of, Grandaddy being a great lo-fi indie rock band from around the time. I’m not 100% convinced the story behind the album is true, but it’s fairly believable that a group of young guys could’ve made this in the late 90s.
Holy shit dude I’ve heard stories I remember the original thread and everything. I swear I was in the group that thought this came out in way later but to see it was early 2000?! These guys were so fucking ahead of their time it’s unreal.
I love the clear audio but I also love the original rip, the original rip is like taking a peek back in time but behind damaged rose tinted glasses, you get to experience what they wanted to give to the world but you also get to experience what time does to all things, destroy and rot. All that yappin bein said, this album is fucking great.
I love how this album sounds happy and melancholic. Like a memory of someone you never met, like you got it because you were given it like the giver, with all the synths and electronic sounds being like the memory is slightly warped. The rot versions being where you have to pass the memory before it disintegrates in your mind

I remember stumbling upon all of this back in 2017. Finally hearing it in such great quality is so surreal.
I enjoyed the whole album and I loved it how nostalgic and calm sounding it sounds, it reminds me of the early 2000s alternative music. This is one of my favourites albums and I am glad to listen to this (nearly) 20 year-old album from the past. Amazing!
I like that both remastered EPs combined just _barely_ pass the half hour mark, making it a full length album.
Technically it would already be with the seven tracks, as the RIAA defines an album as either five or more tracks at least 15 minutes in length or any amount of tracks if it's at least thirty minutes, but the former definition seems too lenient of a threshhold and unsatisfying
This reminds me of my favourite shoegaze bands, Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine. Oh what could have been, if Panchiko got a record deal. We were robbed =(
Doll Face i’m guessing it was due to the samples?
Pretty sure andy has a record label and was planning to release the album on streaming services through it
>favorite shoegaze bands
>only the succesfully commercial ones
fuck off
MBV is amazing, Slowdive is so fucking spectacular. Souvlaki is one of my favorite albums. You have great taste!
@@rxsanders4265 Not everyone likes to choose a single genre to listen for the rest of their lives and search every single possible band from foreign countries with shitty recordings, pal. Some of us listen to more than just one style and don't care about digging through thousands of bands that sound the same.
Had chills all throughout Kicking Cars. So damn happy to finally hear these without the rot.
Hearing the rot on these sounded so cool, but I'm happy too.
The eyes of Ibad it's truly a masterpiece song, very well composed
it’s kind of insane thinking i learned about this album from a splatoon headcanon of all things when there was this entire search and story behind it. it’s like walking into a club and there’s a ritual going on or something
I'm actually impressed with how good this sounds. Way ahead of its time!
I remember when the only version available was the rot version. I used to listen to it a lot but man I am thankful for the clear album.
Now that I finished listening, I just wanna say that was absolutely fantastic.
The whole Kicking Cars EP is definitely a 10/10 kind of album
Merci Feldup
this is one of my favorite albums ever, despite the original data rot all the songs on the ep were really beautiful. listening to the full album with them in peak quality made me legitimately tear up. thank you owain and andy and everyone who spread the word and search :')
Listening to this for the first time and I have goosebumps
This is why I go to thrift stores. I've found some crazy stuff that isn't even on RUclips. Nothing is more satisfying than not finding music online then finding out it's a banger
I think i tried listening to this once didnt like but now coming back to it it actually is really good might be a contender for my favorite albums

Hopefully this project gets more recognition. This feels ahead of it’s time, but right for its time also.

I love Sweet Trip to death but I honestly don’t hear it except for maybe the end of Cut
Bless Whang for exposing me to this album, it's soooo good! Way ahead of its time
Damn, this is amazing! not only the story behind it, but also how great the songs are. It's magical that this exists and it's here so that all of us can enjoy it for free. Thank you to everyone involved. Also, it looks and sound so modern. Can't believe this is from 2000, that's insane.
How could music like this ever get lost to time
Didn't think I'd be here years later after OP's post. It's great that so many people got together to make this happen.
i legit thought that this was a deathmetal/grindcore album judging by the album cover. well this is good, anyway

Seeing these lads tomorrow night with Wisp in DC. Can't wait!
This album is awesome, a masterpiece. My favorite song from this album always changes because it's so hard to pick only one. I really wish Panchiko made more music, but I'm so glad that they are gaining popularity nowadays, they deserve it.
I had been listening to this music for several months. And I just learned it was a lostwave.I'm so impressed this becomes a super melancholic piece
Laputa sound like the
soundtrack I could've had with a girl I like if I've been more courageous and honest with my feelings. Now, she will forever be my castle in the sky - was so near my grasp but just far enough that I couldn't just touch it or hold it with my arms.
Thank you for making this happen - you did what I thought was impossible
Damn I'm glad whang introduced me to this album, it slaps
Yup!! Came here from him as well

@@MrFart-in6gj what don’t you like about it
it's weird asf how I've never heard anything about this band and it only took one album (which miraculously reached our ears) for me to need bands with a similar sound to this one.
This was amazing and you can tell this has so much heart and passion and I love it. I love how after all these years they came together to give all the fans a remaster and show that they still have love and passion for music. By the way I'm here from Whang!. Cool video. ^_^
Certified hood classic
Personally I think this album fits rarely well into the wake of OK Computer. It has similar vibes with the mix of electronic and rock elements with some weird experimentation and generally melancholy tone. The lo-fi rock sound is probably more an element of the recording conditions, but it’s not like weird lo-fi rock was unheard of, Grandaddy being a great lo-fi indie rock band from around the time. I’m not 100% convinced the story behind the album is true, but it’s fairly believable that a group of young guys could’ve made this in the late 90s.
the rot version sounds so melancholic. sounds like crushed hopes and dreams barely managing to hold on and not be forgotten memories.
this is the best thing ive heard all year. thank you. also the story behind this is absolutely incredible
For something that I mistook for actual death metal. . .this is actually pretty nice
Nice Acid Bath pfp, I thought the same thing.
I think we all doubted it for at least a second but the true fans slapped them self out of it. Thank you Andy, Owain, Shaun and John!
I never thought we would ever get to hear this thank you Owain and everyone that helped get the good version out
Andy also got it onto Spotify!
Holy shit dude I’ve heard stories I remember the original thread and everything. I swear I was in the group that thought this came out in way later but to see it was early 2000?! These guys were so fucking ahead of their time it’s unreal.
this album actually kinda kicks ass.
that's my review.

I love the clear audio but I also love the original rip, the original rip is like taking a peek back in time but behind damaged rose tinted glasses, you get to experience what they wanted to give to the world but you also get to experience what time does to all things, destroy and rot. All that yappin bein said, this album is fucking great.
It's... Beautiful.
I’ll listen to that in the car when i’ll be a father so that my son will have the "dad’s music nostalgia" (great album btw)
It sounds amazing!!
Finally I can listen to The Eyes Of Ibad in its entirety, the rot was too much for my ears to handle.
Id say the rot was cool on some of the songs, like it was an old radio playing it.. But I'd say that it's more better in HQ.
I love how this album sounds happy and melancholic. Like a memory of someone you never met, like you got it because you were given it like the giver, with all the synths and electronic sounds being like the memory is slightly warped. The rot versions being where you have to pass the memory before it disintegrates in your mind
