Sure the history behind it is bad, but imagine what great cooks and personalities these women must have had that white people wanted them hanging in their kitchens? Looking at them with positive feelings and memories of wonderful hospitality. How it shaped positive feedback in the children growing up with it?
Can you even fathom the meaning behind it? The achievement of those women?
These positive stereotypes did more for the peace between two people than all the anger and hate and fear thats tossed around today.
Yes they created their own problems in form of "positive" racism. But thats how healing processes work. You get some scab and it itches.

1:12 Most people probably didn't catch this but the announcer says "New mammy holder..."
The typical characteristics of a mammy figure was a black woman, often grinning/smiling widely presenting a cheerful disposition. This was first originated in the days of slavery where black women slaves were tasked to take care of domestic responsibilities like housework, childcare, etc.
Over time, the mammy figure would soon create a false narrative that female black slaves were HAPPY and CONTENT being enslaved and in servitude in their respective households.
The caricature of this figure would later parent the "southern hospitality" figure that people are more familiar with. So, though the "southern hospitality" comment was really cringe, I assure you the usage of "mammy" was way worse.

Ahhh, the good old days... I remember how grandma casually revealed how racist she is to me when a couple of migrants from Uganda moved in. Grandma is probably the nicest person you will ever meet and she's also very kind to them, but one day as I was visiting her I said hi to the neighbor's daughter as we had the same classes in Uni, and Grandma took me aside a bit later and asked me if i found the girl attractive.
Personally, she wasn't my type, but I didn't think she was ugly.
Grandma nodded along, then flatly told me "don't date black women".
I kinda just stared at her completely surprised cause, again, grandma is still probably the kindest person I know.
She clarified went "don't be mean to them or anything, just... be with your own kind, you know?"
I tend to forget that she's a kid from the 40s and that "tolerance" back then had different limits.

@@marshmellowguy586 no. Humanity has problems that need to be solved in the future that require a united human race. The only options in the next 100-1000 years are cultural amalgamation aka the natural route where cultures mix and eventually form a new culture or cultural oppression. The easiest and most likely way for the latter is genocide but there is another way that is also prevalent aka rewriting the history books. If neither of those happen we won't be united enough to enter the space age or any of the unique problems that causes. I know i sound ridiculous but progress happens suddenly and explosively. Ask any scientist ever. I imagine my great-grankids will be in space. If we survive that long. It's important that we not hamper natural unity while fighting forced unity aka segregation or not marrying someone because of ancestral peer pressure.

Cultures being forced to stay separate introduces rigidity and while some ideas need to be temporarily rigid humans as a whole need to be able to fluidly adapt. Compatible cultures naturally melt together but even incompatible ones assimilate parts of other cultures. All majorly differing cultures are produced by lack of contact and genocide.
