14:00 the magnitude of things going on in a drummer's head compared to the perception of people outside him can be so vastly different it's wild. Including the things we just _feel_ are off while playing that don't even result in an audible mistake...I was just in the studio 3 days last week and some takes I was nearly disgusted by but nobody heard anything wrong, sometimes even including me when listening to playback afterwards...there is such a layered mix of intangible aspects to drumming far beyond boom bap on the click etc and that's why we are all in love. Great vid terrific interview!!
Yes! It is always subjective. I too have had recording sessions where I think there's no way that I got anything usable, and while there are indeed plenty of clams revealed while editing, I still end up managing to find something acceptable, even when I thought it was off as I recorded it. The "mistakes" are obvious in our minds, but the emotional and mental baggage it stripped clean and all that is left is just the music on its own when you hear it objectively. It's actually why I make sure to allow a "cool down" periods of a few days before I go back and start editing. Just to get away from it.
i screamed in one of Jockes earlier bands called Vituperation and on our first gig after I had joined, the "sound guy" actually asked if it was possible for Jocke to hit softer xD it was at a small place in Bro, sweden. convenient enough we shared rehersal room with Valkyrja which he eventually joined which was the right move. im so happy and proud of his success.
@drumtalk Thank you for making this, Jocke has been my main inspiration for a long time now. These talks are so unique and I cannot be grateful enough to you. I wonder what you think about interviewing Janne Parviainen from Ensiferum? He’s basically my idol and such a great musician but it’s impossible to find anything about him on the internet.
hey Juhász, thank you for your comment! I'm not really familiar with Ensiferum apart from the fact that I know they exist -- once everything is back to normal it's a possibility, provided that I still have the energy to proceed with this show. At this point I'm not so sure anymore...
@@drumtalkofficial Thank you for your response, I hope you’ll keep doing these, I’m sure many of us love what you do! And Ensiferum, if you get there sometime, is worth a try, awesome musicians and a really lovely bunch of people at the same time.
Great way to kick off the new season, Cheers!! Looks like the last one is from a familiar face to all us metal drummers out there. Who could it be....... Well if you have any metal records in your collection there is a good chance he played on it.... Yes it is our favorite GENE HOGLAN!!!! Jokes aside thank you for bringing us these great interviews. Still waiting for the Tony Laureano interview. Someday it will happen.
yep, there's still a bunch of blokes I wanna have a chat with -- Vinnie Colaiuta, Dennis Chambers, Dave Grohl, Danny Carey, Mike Bordin, Sean Kinney, Nick Barker, Derek Roddy are among my personal favorites. Let's see how the future unfolds.....
@@drumtalkofficial That is a great spread of drummers you have. Nick would be great. He is actually pretty open to interviews from what I gathered. You have interviewed one of my top 3 metal ones, Pete COMMANDO Sandoval. I still watch that one every couple months and it's even better since you have my very close to top 3 Lee Harrison on it. Other then Tony, Dave Culross Is another legend I would love to see. And this name popped in my head while writing This: Duane Timlin. Alright I have to stop this wish list.
yep, you're right Sir! The last thing I filmed for drumtalk was in February of 2020. The Sean Reinert Tribute and my job kept me busy but I could finally put a new season together.

Seen him play live a few years Amon Amarth. Dude's a great drummer!
Well this awesome. I love this band and always wondered what drummers think.
Seems like a really spiritual guy
Great video 👍👍👍
Hell yeah im looking forward
Anyone knows which essay he's talking about? The one about the meditation warm up?
DRUM GOD.
Very bright guy. Totally agree that the band shouldn't have to adjust to the venue.
This must be the first new one in a while, I take it? If so...thanks, and I will be checking it out asap!!!
