- Following the June Nintendo Direct everyone is waiting for the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 and when Nintendo is going to reveal the Switch successor. President Shuntaro Furukawa has already confirmed Nintendo's next generation system will be revealed before the end of Nintendo's fiscal year in March 2025 but did we just figure out when it's happening? Official announcement/trailer late 2024, presentation anywhere between January and March 2025. Official launch sometime in the next fiscal year. (Any time after March 31st 2025)
I think that realistically, the switch 2 could be revealed between October-January and released between April and June
I wonder if they might reveal it close to Christmas as a “gift some gift cards this year for those switch enthusiasts” type deal.
I think we'll probably get the reveal toward the end of this year and a release between March - June of next year. In the meantime however, I don't think we'll be getting the usual September direct. More likely another partner showcase and/or indie world. The next proper direct will be between January - March and heavily feature the Switch successor and games coming to the system.

I agree. No reveal until early next year. Next year will be a very new strategy for Nintendo, adding many AAA 3rd party games, remastered Switch1 games, and of course the Switch2 exclusives.
I still am hoping the reveal is like the Switch reveal for Switch 2 so I am aiming for a Fall Reveal for it repeating history basically like what they did in 2016.
but 2016 was different -- the Wii U was a commercial failure and they needed to get out the new system asap and build hype before its launch. This time Switch is the #3 best selling console of all time (might even be #2 or #1 by next year), so the situation is vastly different. That's why I personally think it's unlikely for a fall reveal to take place, but we can always hope :)
Here’s what I think could happen:
- announcement in a final Nintendo direct revolving around switch games in September. The switch 2 plans to release in October 2025
- announcement of an n64 classic edition coming 2025
- the 4th and final switch model releasing sometime after the switch 2 which would be a home/docked only version. This is similar to the the new 2ds xl releasing after the switch and the Wii mini after the Wii U.
There’s a rumor that the 10th generation Pokémon game won’t release until 2026 (breaking the 3 year cycle) so that it’ll be released on the new console. I wonder if Gamefreak and other gaming companies know more than the general public about when new consoles will release. I also wonder if they develop games without knowing which console it will be available on.
having to wait 6+ months for a reveal seems extremely unlikely. Releasing in the 2nd half of 2025 also seems unlikely tbh (Manifesting)
After all the reasons you stated; I think they will reveal the Switch successor 2-3 weeks after the release of the Zelda Edition Switch lite; so the middle of October. If it is not revealed by then; it could mean a middle or late 2025 release.
Showing "a bunch of" old games on the next system is a bad move. They'll think the next switch is like a PS5 where it's not really needed.

The thing isn't even being announced until 2025 and only after that will it be shown and later still released in the holiday season of 2025. As for backwards compatibility i dunno, a major issue allegedly driving the Switch 2 release is piracy on the Switch, which in turn is driven by the Switch cartridges and format which were already cracked and replicated.
Having such cartridges also for the Switch successor would make it vulnerable to quick jail-breaking immediately after launch by exploiting the backwards compatibility using MIG carts, plus it would make the system more expensive which goes counter to Nintendo's whole business strategy
I agree with your point makes sense and although I too personally would love for it to be backwards compatible I also would not be that upset I still have my Switch which i plan on keeping and I'm excited for something new so I'll be picking it up regardless however they could still make it backwards compatible with digital purchases especially since Nintendo Accounts are coming over

August is too soon imo. Not everyone will watch the full reveal and the news will spread like wildfire that a new Switch system is coming, and most people probably won't bother fully researching and will most likely assume that it's NOT backwards compatible, and that will hurt the sales up to this holidays for the current switch. Not to mention the Hyrule Switch Lite coming this September, a month after. The smartest decision would be to let the holidays pass and _then_ announce Switch 2 properly, bc holidays see the highest sales of consoles (~10 million for the switch!). By then ppl would've already bought an OG Switch, and they might be a bit sour (or not if the switch 2 is $399), but this way they will maximize sales before moving onwards to the next system, and ppl can have ample time to learn the new system is backwards compatible so that their current OG Switch purchases will carry over :)

Remember Nintendo is skipping Gamescom this August. Nintendo could do a switch 2 reveal themselves this August. But we shall see. I'm 2025 for a switch 2 reveal.

I'm pretty sure the first Switch got unveiled on a October of 2016, so I'd imagine Nintendo would unveil it that month of this year as well. but we'll see how the rest of the year plays out.
August system teaser trailer is most likely. There’ll be a quarterly investor briefing where Nintendo is going to be getting questions from investors. They’re also going to be getting pressure from partner developers and publishers participating in Gamescom, TGS, and The Game Awards to drop something so that they can start revealing at least some of what they’ve got coming to Nintendo. If they drop the teaser in August, the September Direct will be cross gen titles. And then the blowout system reveal with the launch date and next-gen exclusive first party titles revealed either December 30 to close out the year with a bang or within the first two weeks of January.

Nintendo has to have time to write up the narrative on the new system to give to all the reviewers so they can all say the same thing when they review the system or they won't ever review anything for Nintendos again. Have to follow the Nintendo script after all.. Lol
They revealed Switch in October 2016 because Nintendo had nothing to lose during the holidays that time (Wii U had already failed). But now, they want to squeeze in every last drop of sales for the Switch, so they’ll probably wait until after Christmas.

Switch 2 is gonna cost 450 bucks because of inflation but people are gonna think it’s overpriced.

Okay so this is what I think a teaser trailer is coming soon just a short trailer showing the system with those games playing on it confirming backwards compatibility and possibly dropping the name but no release date maybe it will happen in september or October meaning no fall direct just a few game trailers dropped on X and RUclips then the actual presentation about Switch 2 in January and release in March or April now here's my logic Nintendo just took down all their Switch announcement trailers for all 3 versions of the Switch not the other videos showing off the new skin variations like the animal crossing Switch Lite or the Splatoon 3 Oleg Model just the original announcement trailers odd right well what if in August they show off a new trailer that has all 3 original models in it promoting a Prince drop for the console say about $50 off each version that would give everyone the momentum to still buy those games and maybe even sell more consoles especially with holiday buddles remember Nintendo did state that they intend on selling 13 million Switch's this calendar year and I don't see that Zelda Switch lite being enough to reach that goal and I don't see Nintendo releasing a new console in Summer time because it would hurt release window sells due to everyone saving for or already going on Vacation
For the Nintendo direct part, I feel like they could skip another direct, or just have a bad one.
If Nintendo cannot maintain 60 FPS in this era, it will become a company that cannot keep up with the times.

Prime 4 is the March 2025 game. The DLSS for Prime 4 successor verison upgrade will be about October of 2025. This puts console launch in June to Sept window.
Nintendo will give Prime 4 enough time to sell units on og switch first before they talk about successor. The real tell is prime 2 and 3 hitting eshop on switch is. They both have to release by nov 2024 at latest or prime 4 is pushed to back half of 2025.
So all we need to know is prime 2 and 3 release period.
