- Today we'll wrap up this series on connecting the helix to the main layout benchwork. In this video we'll finish laying track on the bridge and the benchwork, add a few feeders, and then run a train from hidden staging all the way up the helix and out onto the main layout level.

Great video! It's always a thrill when the first test run goes off flawlessly. Of course, with your excellent workmanship, that's only to be expected. Thanks for sharing this video.
When I had a helix, I learned pretty quickly to change all my plastic couplers to Kadees. (Take a guess why!)
Wow what a build. Congratulations Larry ✌️. That Helix 👍
Bringing a hidden staging yard online will add so much enjoyment to operations. Good work and congratulations, Larry!
That's the plan!
Thank you for sharing. Very nice.👍

Way to go Larry! Keep up the good work! Keep running trains!
Congratulations on the connection
Thank you Larry, looks really good, mind I expect that you were on tenterhooks when you undertook your first run. Keep safe.
Man that helix is awesome. 👏.

Excellent work!!!
Wow, it looks really nice!
Neat stuff! Thanks for sharing this.
Excellent.🎉
That looks great. I'm glad it works without any glitches.
👍👍👍
nice
To see the whole thing try a cab ride
Another awesome video, I’m considering doing a helix but kind of undecided
Go for it!
@@TheDCCGuy what is the overall outside diameter of the helix?I’m really limited on space
It’s 5’ diameter, so about 5 1/2’ overall
5’ diameter so 5 1/2’overall. But you can go smaller depending on your rolling stock. I talked about this in the planning video.
Great build Larry 👍 What radius and grade % is your helix ?

If you have to take up the track you glued down how hard is it to do that? I like the idea of gluing the track down.
The crossover I was working with had been lifted from another area on the layout due to a change in plans. The adhesive holds well but you can easily slide a thin knife under the ties to lift a section. However that may only be true for the Liquid Nails for Projects. I have not tested other adhesives. The good thing about Liquid Nails for Projects is it will not eat through foam if you need to lay it directly without cork.
@@TheDCCGuy thank you.
What adhesive are you using under the tracks?
Liquid Nails for Projects
Thanks again now helix done, In a past video you talk about making an ho rerailer where are you with it,
The version I was shown in England was not reliable so it was back to the drawing boards.
What system are you using for track detection of train in the helix
Video #269
Hi you say that you use tortoise motors have you seen Mccinleys railway on you tube he has about 400 on his layout and become defective and had to replace most of them and done a modification on them all thought I’d let you know
Yes, I know about it and have been in contact with Circuitron about it. More to come.
