  • A look at a couple reciprocal crosses we have attempted here lately. A little seed harvesting, plus some focus on things we need to learn and improve on!

Hi there, good luck with sending your seeds to the lab, hopefully this time successful! I found a flashing service lab, so will be sending mine too and we'll see how it goes. I'm planning to send the whole seed pod to keep them as fresh and viable as possible. Thanks for sharing and happy growing 😊

hey Mary! great, I am glad you found a lab...can I ask where?! maybe we could chat "off camera" about some details and compare....or maybe do a little compare collab video about it one day?? originally we tried sending green pods off, but had problems with holding and moisture. altho, we learned the hard way that you need to just use paper envelopes, and NO plastic linings or bubble wrap protection. oh well, live and learn... good luck with your flasks!!

Good luck with them! I reckon that bellatulum X thaianum would receive a lot of interest, hope you get some viable seed.

hey Justin! yes, on slipper talk we say the thaianum x bellatulum and the paph nerds seemed to get all uppity, so i figured it would be a good cross to try. fingers crossed something is viable!!! your paphs and plants are looking great, as usual...

I think you need to wait for brown capsule if you want to send seed. If you want to send green seed, you need them to be inside the capsule and they are only opened when under a flow hood in sterile conditions.
I think the seed becomes unviable due to contamination if out of the pod when it’s not yet mature.
I don’t have personal experience, so maybe someone else can confirm if I’m wrong.

howdy! thanks for the input, and yes, we have also been warned against doing what we did, but you know...here at el Pilar its like the school of hard knocks! never know till you try it....hope you are having a great week, and please give us feedback anytime....
