    I’ve golfed in Japan several times. The courses are very well kept as you’d expect but typically a bit of a formal affair. Why not connect with Matsuyama’s old caddy, Daisuke Shindo? He retired from caddying and is pretty much a RUclipsr in Japan these days. “Uum Golf” is his channel. He’s got quite a few subscribers. 👍

    I've actually started building up sets of 10-15yo Japanese forged irons. Some blades, but mostly cavity backs. Find them on ebay heads-only, they ship from Japan in a matter of days. I've built up Srixons, Mizunos, Yamahas, Bridgestones, PRGR, Royal Collection, some JDM Taylormades, etc. Once I got my first taste of forged irons, I can't go back to cast heads. And most of these sets cost me under $150, sometimes under $100 for 5-PW heads.

  • @lalalalalala8027
    @lalalalalala8027 Год назад +2

    Peter, you have to look at and try Yururi. The Geku wedges and flatback blades to be specific. Also, Epon is more or less a club brand that has been the main competitor of Miura for Years. Nike tried them out back in the day, TM tried them out as well for some of their tour players but were found to be a bit less solid in feel compared to Miura. Second, take a dive into the shaft world in Japan, then the world of the bags. Both offer things that we couldn't even dream off here in Europe (US has some better offerings nowadays as well). Talking from the pov of someone who spend a lot of time fitting and grinding some of these raw heads about 15 years ago.

    Glad you put "Fourteen" into the mix. I LOVE the look of their clubs, and I happened to luck into a set of their wedges when I bought some old Ping ISI-K's from a guy on Craigslist. The irons were black dot, 3-SW, nickel with Ping graphite shafts AND he included 3 Fourteen wedges for $80! At the time, gas prices spiked significantly and I had to drive out to get the clubs from him so he knocked off $20. $60 out the door! When I got them home i gave everything a thorough cleaning and OH MY DAYS!!! I had to regroove the wedges a little bit, but they are way too spangly to play with!

    @Peter Finch this is my favourite video you have ever put out. I was clenching my sphincter the whole video hoping kyoei was the final one on your list.
    I have spent countless hours on the Japanese rabbit trail. Couple notes.
    Kyoei - apparently Katsuhiro Muira worked at the Kyoei factory as a youngster prior to starting Muira. It is where he learned how to forge clubs. I own a set of the KK CBs and have steel fibre i95 shafts in them. You will never hit a better feeling club in your life.
    Epon - is the in house brand of a forging house called Endo. Endo is the company that forged Tiger Woods irons. Not Muira
    Vega - is also forged by Kyoei
    You should also look up Yururi. They have a cult following and their wedges are unbelievable.
    Itobari - is actually cheaply made in China. The designs are then ground in Japan. Quality wise they are nowhere close to the other companies.
    Finally - the mainstream Japanese brands can not hold a candle to these other pesser known club makers when it comes to feel

    Now changed to the Miura camp with Nicklaus medling in… when these wear out, I’ll be moving back to Mizunos.

    Yes - Muira for me! My son has made me promise to buy him a set of Miura clubs if he gets to scratch by 14 (he's off 9 at 12 now). I'll buy myself some too if I get below 5 again. Beautiful things indeed.

    XXIO. I was playing Taylormade Rocketball irons for a few years but felt I was losing distance due to age and flexibility. Wanted to go to graphite shafts to pick up a few mph. Found a set of 12 year old XXIO irons at a play it again sports for 99 bucks and only bought them to see how graphite felt as I’d never heard of them. Holy cow! The ball flew off the face and straighter than any irons I’ve ever hit in my life. I’ve been on the lookout for a good deal on a newer model, but as you said, they are pricey. Would love to see an in depth review

    As living in Hong Kong, Japanese brand golf clubs are easier to get hold of. Currently most of my clubs in the golf bag are Japanese brands : Onoff Driver & Hybrid, Honma Irons, Epon wedges and Gold's Factory putter (Only 3 wood is US brand Ping). My previous Japanese clubs include XXIO Driver, Royal Collection Driver, Katana Driver, Muraman 3 wood, Epon Irons...

      I have a set of VEGA VDC-01 and they are so much softer then all of the Miuras I have owned. Itobori are by far the softest I’ve ever hit though. Without a doubt.

    I've just bought a set of Miura TC-201's 😍, been lusting after them for a while. They feel amazing & sneaky distance with them. Even got the cord Miura grips, so nice may use iron covers on them. 🫣
