I personally find this song much more moving than Hurt, though I love that song to death also, but the lyrics of this song and how he delivers them are just haunting.
Really sad song but I could totally relate🤔 My soulmate & best friend Nicole never wanted me as an boyfriend but I've loved her anyhow. Unfortunately; she passed away on 11/15/16 😭 love U forever
(According to google) I still recall the taste of your tears Echoing your voice just like the ringing in my ears My favorite dreams of you still wash ashore Scraping through my head 'till I don't want to sleep anymore You make this all go away You make this all go away I'm down to just one thing, and I'm starting to scare myself You make this all go away You make this all go away I just want something I just want something I can never have You always were the one to show me how Back then I couldn't do the things that I can do now This thing is slowly take me apart Grey would be the color if I had a heart Come on and tell me, you make this all go away You make this all go away I'm down to just one thing, and I'm starting to scare myself You make this all go away You make this all go away I just want something I just want something I can never have In this place it seems like such a shame Though it all looks different now, I know it's still the same Everywhere I look you're all I see Just a fading fucking reminder of who I used to be Come on tell me you make this all go away You make this all go away I'm down to just one thing, and I'm starting to scare myself You make this all go away You make it all go away I just want something, I just want something I can never have I just want something I can never have
It's scary because I related to this song so much growing up. And now that I am older it seems to be the story of my life. Anyone else experience the same?
Absolutely. It's crazy, I must have listened to this song literally hundreds of times growing up, and somehow I completely forgot about it until about 10 minutes ago. And I gotta say, it hits me even harder, now that I'm getting "not younger"
A magnificent piece of music....."Grey would be the colour if I had a heart"....."Everywhere I look you're all I see, just a faded fucking reminder of who I used to be". I doubt the the contemporary musicians could generate a fraction of the lyrics or the music created 25 years ago!!
A musician is a person who sings/plays an instrument. A songwriter is a person who creates the music (lyrics and guitar tracks and so on). "I doubt the the contemporary musicians could generate a fraction of the lyrics or the music created 25 years ago!!" I don't agree. In metal there are still examples of good music. I won't speak for other genres as metal is pretty much the only thing I listen to.
@@totallynuts7595 disagree.. nobody in metal has put out anything as musically or lyrically pleasing as the big four. Slayer, Anthrax, Metallica and or Megadeath. Still rule and no one's even close. Sorry 🤷🏻♂️
This song reminds me of my mother who was hit and killed when I was 3. I never got to know her. She comes to me in my dreams. RIP Barbara Ailene Grimes.
Wasn’t this in Natural Born Killers? I remember seeing it in the theater on a date (Hi Anna!)... We took acid (not knowing what we were getting into) & had our teenage minds blown by the intense visual insanity & memorable music. Edgy movies like this & the rise of “alternative” counter-culture & music festivals opened the creative doors for many. At the time, it seemed like an exciting new culture was emerging - shaking off the sanitized 80’s glitter, and finding a new voice that was more mature, grittier, darker & took more risks. It was a thrilling five or so years to be young & alive.
i never got how people found this song as depressing, i always got a very creepy stalker vibe a la Every breath you take by the police. really makes it a more tense song though
This song is playing on a pianola (or something) in one of the early episodes of West World season 1 (episode 4 or 5, I think). PHM was a pretty big deal album to me when it came out but everything that followed was just patchy, anticlimactic and felt very whingy, whiny and juvenile to me. I completely lost interest after The Downward Spiral. Back when most of you were just getting into them, I bet.
Rodov1968 Broken stands the test of time as being an extremely angry, dissonant and aggressive EP. Downward Spiral is Trent Reznors most cohesive album and is a classic. Also, I get it in regards to all these kids with no sense of history or background all of a sudden getting into music you've loved for years but dot always assume you're the one person on the planet who was a fan of a band from their earliest years.
Gunz4Hire187 You're probably right. I was thinking I should give them a re listen to see if I appreciate them more now. Maybe I just wasn't ready for the way the music went yet, back at that time. And much of PHM is probably more accessible music than much of what followed. Dunno yet but I am going to see if I am ready to appreciate it now. I saw a video where David Bowie is sitting next to Reznor saying he wasn't that into PHM but the Downward Spiral piqued his interest. I do tend to like my electronic music to be a bit sparce with kind of an icy atmosphere though. Not that I'm into all that much. Recent example was Austra's 1st album being the best of their 3 (with the 3rd a close 2nd and the 2nd being awful). You are right though. I shouldn't just assume what you said I shouldn't.
I personally find this song much more moving than Hurt, though I love that song to death also, but the lyrics of this song and how he delivers them are just haunting.
I agree with this 100%. This song is fucking incredible. I always turn it up as loud as I can when it comes on, lol.
Same.
Hurt is good but this is so raw It gives me goosebumps
The way Sanctified blends into the beginning of this song is perfect.
you all need to listen to the entire Pretty Hate Machine!
+1 for *sure*.
Jam Moon have you ever listened to pretty hate machine on weed ? ! Well I have lol fucking amazing !!
Mr. Psychedelics lol snorting marijuana?? Smoking it’s more fun though lol and eating it is even better because you get higher !! Haha 😆
I did...when it came out.
- and on repeat of course :)
Epic masterpiece...Pretty Hate Machine is perfect from beginning to end...
This will always be NIN's best album in my opinion.
this song is so beautifully crafted its genius
Hauntingly beautiful is the only way I can describe this song.

Really sad song but I could totally relate🤔 My soulmate & best friend Nicole never wanted me as an boyfriend but I've loved her anyhow. Unfortunately; she passed away on 11/15/16 😭 love U forever
Praying for you my friend
Wore this CD out
It still plays terribly well
I just want something
The Fragile
I wore my casette out......
God I feel this song so much right now.. I could almost cry..
Makes me feel strong. And then it ends. Makes me want to climb overall. New views.
I’ll cry for you. And me
(According to google)
I still recall the taste of your tears
Echoing your voice just like the ringing in my ears
My favorite dreams of you still wash ashore
Scraping through my head 'till I don't want to sleep anymore
You make this all go away
You make this all go away
I'm down to just one thing, and I'm starting to scare myself
You make this all go away
You make this all go away
I just want something
I just want something I can never have
You always were the one to show me how
Back then I couldn't do the things that I can do now
This thing is slowly take me apart
Grey would be the color if I had a heart
Come on and tell me, you make this all go away
You make this all go away
I'm down to just one thing, and I'm starting to scare myself
You make this all go away
You make this all go away
I just want something
I just want something I can never have
In this place it seems like such a shame
Though it all looks different now,
I know it's still the same
Everywhere I look you're all I see
Just a fading fucking reminder of who I used to be
Come on tell me you make this all go away
You make this all go away
I'm down to just one thing, and I'm starting to scare myself
You make this all go away
You make it all go away
I just want something,
I just want something I can never have
I just want something I can never have
Justin De Young thank you!!
Awesome copy, cut and paste 🤦🏻♂️🤣

Yes, now going through my second divorce. Almost 50 years old, seems no one is there, for some. This song speaks to everyones bad times

The atmosphere he created with the dark minimalist noises, just wow.

Man, I am so glad I watched The Walking Dead. Because otherwise I would have never learned of NIN which is now probably my favorite band.
You stumbled upon nine inch nails in a t.v. series? That's really something.

Mike Gonzalez Jr. Ikr
+John Rambo it's cool though
This song was also used in Natural Born Killers in a very dark (one of many) scene in the film.
...like when you breakup and you know it's over, done, but you still love them...and it hurts, but you still do...
"I'm down to just one thing and I'm starting to scare myself"... Then the birds start chirping
My favourite track off the album.

"But in reality, there were two opposing forces..." *dramatic noise*
