    i have been watching 1/6 scale collector videos all day, and i've noticed that nearly every collector avoids using the word "doll".
    i have been collecting 12 inch G.I. Joes for nearly 4 years now and i have JUST admitted to myself that i am a grown man who collects and plays with dolls.
    For most of my life, i have been hiding behind the term "action figures" and i feel so stupid for doing so.

      Doll is a standardized word pertaining to toys in the 30's, 40's & 50's, that were gender specific to girls. After WWII, the evolution of G.I Joe was hailed as accomplishment in creating toys that boys could play with, it is known the creator of G.I. Joe would never call his creation a "doll "but named it an "Action Figure". Because the world has gotten so conformist to correct titling of things. The word "Figure" has become the norm, it now also applies to female characters as well.

    I'm really glad RUclips recommend this video to me. I admire the passion you put forth in your collection and I share a the same sentiments towards 1/6 scale collecting. When I first started collecting in that scale I didn't realize how much was out there let alone the wide selection of styles there were. Regardless I'm looking forward to seeing more videos so keep up the great work!

    Fantastic video, lots of great info for those looking too or are curious about getting into the hobby, the brief history on your own personal thoughts and feelings about 1/6 scale collecting is a nice touch also.
    I started out collecting 1/10 scale Kotobukiya ArtFX Star Wars and DC figures, I only stumbled upon 1/6 through a friend of mine whom I visited and saw his display case with some 1/6 scale Sideshow Collectables figures, he gave me a run down of where and how he got a hold of them so I started questioning which figures and genres are available in this scale which he suggested I try a custom build as some figures are rare or are simply not available which led me to my first kitbash, a 1/6 scale Phicen Resident Evil Ada Wong.
    Out of my humble 100 or so 1/6 figures I own, only 20 of them are OOB originals, the rest of my figures are kit bashed or heavily repaired or modified from third party head sculpt replacements on Sideshow bodies to Hot Toys head swaps and full kitbashed Phicen / Ganghood figures.
    I chose a different approach to 1/6 scale collecting as I thought to myself if I'm going to commit to collecting 1/6, at least try to do something else other than just buying, unboxing and displaying them so I focused on purchasing damaged, worn out and used 1/6 scale figures and bringing them back to life as I've noticed a few collectors would rather bin or toss these damaged figures aside rather than fix them forgoing some repairs as simple as replacing a broken wrist connector, sheesh.
    I think if your're seriously going to collect 1/6 scale figures, do some research on the different and popular / not so popular brands available, learn to replace parts and make repairs, learn which materials need special maintenance like fake leathers or pleather as these do become brittle over time and deteriorate, learn to fix broken joints and tighten loose connectors, teach yourself how to repair or sew custom outfits, there are endless theme's and hour's of fun one can apply to a 1/6 figure.
    Some of my friends call them dolls for adults, I just laugh and tell them I never grew up as I am a child trapped in a grown up's body LOL
    To me 1/6 collecting isn't just buy and display, it's more than that, it's a hobby just like any other I enjoy (model kitset building) which demands attention to detail, your collection represents you as a fan of the franchise and how you display it shows everyone how much you care about it.
    Thanks for sharing.

Used to go there almost every weekend to hang out with my friends and just see what's new, check how my favorite vendors were doing, etc. I'm contemplating picking up my very first 1:6 figure which is pretty exciting as I'm used to collecting just smaller figures. One thing you forgot to mention was the space needed for storing the empty boxes for those who want the option of reselling the figures in the future when they need space, lost interest or want to update the releases. You need just as much if not more space for boxes. You are more likely to retain or increase your re-sale price if the figure comes with it's original packaging.

    • @TheMagnificentWorldofToys
      @TheMagnificentWorldofToys  2 года назад +1

      Only problem with cardboard boxes is that they age exponentially with time. Cardboard and it's glue used to seal the boxes weakens & disintegrates, so unless you have a sealed room with climate control, moisture etc, after 20 years boxes end up no good.

    If you are having difficulty keeping rubber like skin and or plastic figures from drying & cracking, you might try Armor All protectant, it is a non toxic sealant ,I've used it for years, it prevents oxidation and drying out, over time. It's sold at auto part stores and Wal-Mart, in spray bottles for less than $10.00, it was originally used on car interiors but works as well on plastic figures and simulated leather etc.

    I started getting into 1/6 scale when I was like 10 maybe 9 . I would usually play with my 1:18 scale military toys . Since I thought the old gi joes lacked details . I’m talking 60’s 70’s ones my dad had . I would doe play with his 90’s early 2000’s one my dad has which he collected . But me being a kid I didn’t know it was a collectibles so i basically ruined some of his collection. But I remember getting my own figure at frank and sons at Bobby’s custom . For like 15$ it was a Dragon Body . So better then gi joe and still playable and not in the collectible range (in my opinion ) it was an Army soldier in the the enduring freedom era of the military . That’s when I started getting hooked on them . I would get my dragon figures from frank and son , Pegasus hobbies in Montclair , or echo base toys when they were still in temple city . But I remember getting my first actual collectible . I believe it was from echo base . And it was Soldier Story’s CIA SAD OPS Agent . Version 2. I still have him. Some stuff have been worn ( planning on doing some work on him when the time is right ) . It was then that started collecting the big boys . At 11 years old they came out with figures from Black Hawk Down. One of my favorite war movies . I got two figures Sanderson and Grimes . Instead of going to the 5th grade science camp. It was then I started my collection of those collectibles from DAM TOYS, Soldier Story or any military figure that caught my eye. Although I don’t really collect hot toys figures I would like to but as a 19 yr they’re pretty expensive. But I do remember my first one was Stealth strike suit Captain America . Now I got Ellen Ripley , Pvt.Hudson , Deadpool (not the movie one) the T-800 from the 84 film. And Harley Quinn from suicide squad . Although room is running out I do plan on getting more .

    Great video! I stumbled upon your video looking for an explanation of why manufacturers are now favoring 1/12 over 1/6 (Ahem! 1000toys). A company that I fell in love with has sort of...neglected 1/6 in favor of 1/12 and I feel neglected as they are a toy company that has gotten me into 1/6! I can see why some may start moving to 1/12 through some of the points you made here. I personally love 1/6 still despite the popularity in 1/12. Do you have thoughts on the 1/6 vs 1/12 scale figures?

    • @TheMagnificentWorldofToys
      @TheMagnificentWorldofToys  3 года назад +1

      kira kosmo thank you for the compliment. My heart is with 1/6. The bulk of my collection consists of it. I don’t own any 1/12 mainly because that scale doesn’t interest me. For starters the figures are too small. I imagine 1/12 figures are much more fragile as well. It’s unfortunate that some manufacturers have began putting out more 1/12 figures as opposed to 1/6.
      I imagine they must be cheaper to make and that makes them more affordable than 1/6. 1000toys puts out some great products and I hope they eventually return to producing more 1/6 otherwise I’m sure customers will begin to seek elsewhere for their 1/6 needs.

    Would you have tipps and tricks to maintain the figures for as long as possible even while "use" aka displaying them in various poses?

    • @TheMagnificentWorldofToys

      Hello! The best thing to do with these type of bodies is to store them in a cool dry place but also do not leave them posed for extended periods of time as rubber tends to pull apart. That is what happened with my rubber hot toys bodies and that's what I fear may happen to my phicen bodies. Most of my phicen bodies I've had for about a year and I only pose them when I want to photograph them. Aside from that I leave them in a static pose. Good luck with your ventures and thank you for watching!

    Great vid! I dabble in 1/6th too. The accessories can get pretty expensive. I wanted a Harley Davidson type bike & at the time I was looking, they were all like $250 plus. It's hard to find cars in 1/6th scale. I've resorted to Barbie vehicles. Some of them actually look really good.
    I have about three dozen Tbleagues or so. Some Very Cool Toys figures. Also various other third party stuff, like popular character kits, etc. I just ordered my first Tbleague male body, the height is stated at about 13" tall, most of the females are stated at 11.5" or so. How are the height scales in 1/6th? Is somebody like Michael going to be like 15" - 16", if most male bodies are in the 13" range? I don't want everyone to be the same height. The issue after that, I suppose will be compatible clothing! lol
    Finally, my biggest issue is the female rooted hair. After a while, it just flails everywhere, looks like a huge mess. Am I able to use hair gel to deal with that? Also, the full silicon bodies, can I use Talcum powder to keep them plyable & soft? The other thing is lack of skin tones. I wish Tbleague would make a nice golden brown tan. There's too many pale skin tones. Doesn't offer much variety in diversifying your collection.
