I too have experienced waking up and being too hot. That's a terrible feeling waking up and feeling like you are going to pass out. Had to hurry outside my tent to enjoy the 6 degree temperature that would cool my body down. Good choice on downgrading as I know you would never want to experience that again......I know I don't want to feel that feeling again.
Does the bag have a pocket on the inside?
I want to see how small it compresses
lol. 5 ft 11 & 3/4...you're 6 ft, dude. Anyway, i also bought my first bag way too warm, too tight and too expensive ...although not nearly as overkill as yours. Fortunately, mine has a 3/4 zip so it can be used as a quilt.

I am 5-10 and have wider shoulders. How is the width of this bag? Is it too cramped? Thanks!
You are shorter than me, so you I don't think you'll be fine on that front. I had some room to shift around. But as I have learned the hard way, IT GETS HOT. Make sure you are going somewhere cold.

I own the Inferno -20 long. I'm only 5'11" but I wouldn't want the regular. Shoulder girth is a little wider with the large too I believe. I wear down booties on cold nights and I can do that more easily in a long sleeping bag.
Buddy you're going to overheat in that bag.. you don't want a -40 bag unless your hiking in the alpines
100% agree. I had sold it to some lucky joe for a huge discount and bought a much more appropriate bag from Z-packs. Though I wish they made black bags.
