- Can you imagine these frames come from Greece and not from Switzerland?
Let me show an amazing place located in the middle of Greece, in the region called Mountainous Nafpaktia
You need about 5 hour’s drive if you coming directly from Athens, there is a very convenient road where it takes about 2 hours to get to the bridge Rio Antirio which helps you to cross the sea and get to the other side of the bay of Corinth, towards Nafpaktos town.
And after that the adventures of the endless serpentine road start.On the days we traveled there was severe weather, so that serpentine road seemed very difficult and dangerous to us.
So that’s why it took another 3 hours to get to the destination located in the middle of nowhere: well, that’s what I thought while we were driving there among the mountains.
Moreover, more than 40 villages form an impressive group of communities, one of the most impressive in the country as greek sources say.
Well, I can confirm that even through bad weather conditions we met admirable villages, also neat with lovely gardensBut our destination was located near lake Evinolimni, which can remind you of a pure Alpine lake - that was a reward for our long journey.
Likewise, I can admit that Mountainous Nafpaktia is one of the most beautiful parts of Greece mostly from an environmental point of view.
The place we stopped for several days was called Kedros Chalet.
There are 10 very comfortable wooden houses, with all the equipment you need to make food.
But also there is amazing food you can enjoy right in the restaurant which is located near the houses, they offer breakfast in the mornings as well and you can easily order the dishes of the day during your stay.
Also while we driving around sightseeing, there are some villages near that place where you find and order traditional dishes too.
How I found this place is an interesting fact too- I just looked through the map of the greek mountain range in the center of the country - and tried to find beautiful lakes for a trip, because I know there are a lot of hidden treasures among the Greek Mountains.
It is not the first time we find a place just looking into the map.
Turned out this way truly works - there are some other lakes with azure waters inside the Mountainous Nafpaktia or in other Mountain Regions, but the amazing Chalet was built only near this lake.
A great place for kids, with a playground near this spectacular view, and a big swimming pool to refresh during hot summer days even the temperature here in the mountains is not so high as in the town, in Athens for example, but still, even high in the mountains, you can feel summer greek heat.
As for the lake, it is not suitable for swimming but for water supplies in
Athens.
Now imagine how gorgeous it will be in the wintertime while it is snowing all around, the hosts of the hotel say it’s like a fairy.
Maybe it will be more difficult on the road to get to this location but it will still be worth it.
Evinolimni is a paradise for alternative travellers where they can find literally Swiss landscapes , peace and tranquility.
