There is a distinct feeling I get when I walk into halls of centralized power like cathedrals and state buildings, but I've noticed there is also a different kind of feeling when I walk into halls of localized power like certain bars, music venues, or sometimes just the houses of influential people in their communities. The first feeling is one of not-so-subtle anxiety and reverence, but the second is more like an exciting tingle. I think this is because halls of local power are easier for local people to interact with and influence so that the feeling becomes more participatory and greater confidence is possible in one's interactions there. If we can find these halls of localized power in our communities and learn how they operate, I think we could all become a great deal more effective in contributing to collective action.
On another note; it's interesting to hear on the role of Social Media's stratification of the public, because when I hear criticisms of that from liberals, I always take their diagnosis of it with a grain of salt; but hearing from a genuine leftist points of view, it's reassuring to know that we aught to do something about the people we lose due to this division, and that we should remove ourselves from echo-chambers.
Hey guys! As a member of the borguosie and totally not a 20 year old anarchist rebel who wants to find out how movements are taken down, This is indeed an excellent strategy guide to taking movements down and not finding out the flaws of a potential movement so we can avoid them no waIT FUCK SHIT MY COVER IS BLO-
Another great video! I’m in awe as to how often you post these videos. Keeps me inspired to hear more voices that are often kept out of the conversation.
I really want to congratulate you on the accomplishment of pushing this content through the algorithm to where I could see it. I would like to help you get that view count up any way I can. Keep up the good work.
Lord Occulon sent me here Great video, it really shows that we need to make people understand that "reforms" are just meant to disrupt our movements and by playing by the rules of the system we won't change anything
criminally underwatched. i was just thinking to myself, "how did they get us so many times?" and i remembered saint andrew already got my back more than a year ago. i think this was actually the first of your vids i ever saw. thank you for your persistence and skill and imagination and beauty :)
I don't even know how I ended up here. I just blacked out and when I woke up this video was playing and my eyeballs hurt? Fantastic work. I LEARNED STUFF !
Wow this is probably the best video I've seen about robust movement building. Writing from the state's perspective made it more engaging and clarified the main arguments. I offer my humble subscription as a tribute to Lord Occulon.
The algorithm gave this to me a week ago and I did not watch it until now :( I will try to make up for that by giving an algo fuel comment right now, great video!
In terms of movements and the media, Danielle Kilgo & Summer Harlow's concept of the protest paradigm might be useful here because it examines how media framing can de/legitimize different movements. Understanding the hierarchy of social struggle could be key to destroying movements, or better yet, we could take an agnotological approach and promote ignorance of such concepts.
On top of infiltration by the feds, protests have been getting even more complicated to navigate. At one BLM protest in my city in 2020 we experienced local militia members patrolling the streets. 99% of the people there were doing nothing besides ignoring orders to leave from the cops. I witnessed a group of guys provoke the cops into gassing and shooting us with rubber bullets. After I got clear of the gas I saw the same guys carrying an injured guy. I followed them around a corner where they met up with another group who had a medic kit. They laid him on the sidewalk and started checking him out, apparently a rubber bullet got him in the head. That's when I started noticing the ring of stars symbol on a lot of their clothing and tattoos and realized I should probably not be there. That's when a truck pulled up, they loaded him in the back, and they all left. When I got home I looked into what the 3 Percenters are about and learned how anti-cop they are. So we've got people coming to protests with people they otherwise despise just so they can start sh#t with cops. They get to antagonize cops, get the real protesters attacked and hurt, and shift all the blame for their mayhem onto peaceful protesters. At a protest downtown a few weeks later, I was the first to see guy approaching wearing tactical gear and carrying an AR-15. I don't understand even myself why I did this, but I rushed up to him and put my camera in his face while other people came up and demanded to know what he was doing there. He muttered something about being there to protect the protesters. People wouldn't stop giving him sh#t, rightly so, and he left after a few minutes. But I think about what if he didn't leave. What if he just lost it and felt threatened by everyone "ganging up" on him and started blasting away? Or what if he didn't use the Rittenhouse defense and was a straight up psycho who had dropped me as soon as I put my camera in his face? I'm having a hard time with this. I've talked to one of my kids about Kent State, how important it was and is to keep standing up to them even after that happened...especially after that happened. But then I can also see, vividly and in slow-motion, the memory of rubber bullets whizzing past me and bouncing off cars and light poles and paper boxes while I run for cover. And then I see the looks on the 3 Percenters faces as they realize what I'm realizing. I don't want my kids to lose me because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Regarding police reformism among well-meaning progressives, I find this bit from Bob Black's incendiary 1984 anti-rightlib/ancap polemic "The Libertarian as Conservative" applicable: "Thus they turn potential revolutionaries into repairmen. Constructive criticism is really the subtlest sort of praise." Very different targets, exact same energy.
I like your presentation of this information. Very entertaining and informative. I admit I just started watching your channel, so it's possible you've already made a video on this or know of someone who has in this sphere, but I would love to see a video exploring what it's like to hold radical leftist / anarchist views and still work together with people who are more moderate, or how to get into an organization and begin to steer it leftwards. I feel like I see a lot of all or nothing discourse when it comes to organizations (such as PSL in this video) - either they are Morally Correct and Good or Morally Wrong and Bad. I know that's not what you're meaning to convey, but I think the way that social media has stratified speech at this point lends itself to very black-and-white views of the world. Just thoughts; I'm off to go check your video catalogue now.
The part about Socialist parties has me doubting everything I've ever done with DSA. For people who are part of such organizations and want to keep them from following this path, what steps can we take?
Just Don't. I would advise taking about 10 years to deep dive into economics and know why your views would make the world worse for absolutely everyone.
Thank you Mr. CIA man! I look forward to using these strategi- Erm, I mean uh NICE LEFTIST VID FELLOW LEFTIST! I'll be sure to, um, vote for, hmm, Biden! Oh, AGAIN! /s Seriously though, good work! I like these reverse-help videos. Rather than telling me what I could do better, it tells me what I can do worse so I can prevent doing that! Thanks!
At least some of those socialist party people are trying to help, spontaenous rebellions tend to fizzle out without changing anything in the absence of institutionalization. If you can keep a street action going for years and years with no let-up then that's fantastic, otherwise maybe think about what some of those people are saying.
There's a difference between trying to help and trying to take over. My issue is that *sometimes* these sorts of parties have attempted to take the reins without anyone asking them to do so. There are better ways to do things, which is why some socialist orgs have been far more successful in working with the people on the streets while others have been booed out of the protest.
Using the social democratic and socialist parties of a country as a moderating voice makes me think of Imperial Germany and their social democratic party. While previously being an outwardly leftist and anti-war party, when push came to shove and tensions built between the imperial powers, their spokesperson said, "In the hour of danger we shall stand by our fatherland." subjecting millions of German Proletarian men to death over the next four years.
yeah no... you HAVE to defend yourself, and others..... it immoral, unethical, and illogical, to not. Self defense is not violence, defense of others is not violence.... its protection from violence. A push and pull are not the same thing, even if the same force is applied. Opposites are not the same. If the government, or other elites, dont want you to defend yourself, or others, they can simply not be violent, and do other things that people need to defend themselves, or others from.
It is unlikely that you will become less confused just by watching this channel. I've not heard of PSL, but definitely don't rely on 5-minute generalizations in an 11-minute video to clear things up. Read books, get involved/join basically any group, and find out for yourself if they are good or not
@@skyekelley8080 thank you, but i am still conflicted... i don't know, i throw a tiny bit of money at the DSA and IWW, and support streamers/content creators who say political stuff i like, but i think i'm too weak to get truly involved anywhere. maybe if my mom can move me closer to the city i can try to summon some courage and energy to go do stuff.
@@Utomneian Maybe so! This is a great channel, no lie, but it is not enough to be able to make a true judgement about leftist orgs (or leftism in general) as discussed here is all, without further reading. A lot of chapters of DSA are meeting by zoom right now; if you reach out to your local chapter, maybe you can just attend some meetings or teach-ins or whatever they're up to -- when I say get involved, I don't mean immediately jump into the deep end with direct action, just get to know them for yourself
There is a distinct feeling I get when I walk into halls of centralized power like cathedrals and state buildings, but I've noticed there is also a different kind of feeling when I walk into halls of localized power like certain bars, music venues, or sometimes just the houses of influential people in their communities. Glad Thought Slime selected this video for the eyeball zone, it's a 10/10!!
I really liked the framing of teaching the opposite of what to do in movements, to avoid them; but the conclusion really nailed it down to 4k clarity.
It's the dialectic in action.
Absolutely. We can't reach people by talking to leftists exclusively.
