I use 4 TF (Trumpet mouthpiece that have such a deep cup they yield a flugel-like sound) in this video. I contrast and compare them with a commercial piece, a GR64MS-S, and also with a pretty deep trumpet/cornet cup by Warburton, his MBC. Still, the trumpet-flugel pieces are pretty much in their own world when it comes to a big, deep, dark sound. :) I begin with a Trent Austin Trumpet Flugel piece; he originally billed it as his TA-TF. After just a moment of playing, I contrast the TA-TF with a GR commercial piece, then with a Warburton MCB (quite a deep cup). Then it's back to the 4 TF mouthpieces until the end, where I contrast the deepest, darkest TF Mouthpiece with the GR64MS-S again. You can find the clips separated by the specific mouthpieces below. Hi Jon,
I enjoyed your presentation even though I prefer bright sounding trumpets.
The Reaper mouthpieces are worth another look. I copied his explanation of how mouthpiece variables produce different sounds. It was short and clearly written. Maybe he can make a custom mouthpiece for me.
