@@HollyGabrielle Most supermarkets do not accept them, and I do not know why. 😅Other stores mostly do accept them. Yet, only the bigger stores.

@@HollyGabrielle not many dutch use credit cards, we use debet cards. We dont like paying off debt. If I dont have the money, I cant buy it. Credit cards can be a debt trap.

You went to pride! It's the best party of the year in Amsterdam. Better than Kingsday for sure. Best thing to do is to rent a boot with friends to avoid the crowds.
Off-topic, but once you're done travelling could you do a video about choosing the right hostel as a female, how to not get robbed, and basically how to not get lost in a foreign country haha.
yes! i would love to go solo travelling, but things like being in hostels put me off
Bruh, it's Europe, you won't get robbed in Hostel unless you land somewhere like Moldova 🤷🏽♂️. Still it's highly unlikely. You can get pickpocket in highly touristy places such as Rome just don't do stupid things like leaving behind passport n other valuable things back in the hostel

Were you at all nervous that they may not be trustworthy, especially since you're a young female travelling alone? Would love it if you could address these issues in a video as well. I've heard way too many horror stories about drinks getting spiked, and trusting the wrong people on travels etc., so I'd love some advice on making friends while travelling whilst being careful.

Holly, Amsterdam is a very nice town. I went with my father in 2012 and we saw Anne Frank's house, the zoo, and visited a few museums. There are a lot of bikes in Amsterdam.

@@HollyGabrielle hahah I've never been there myself but it always seems like a fun experience. Besides the Anne Frank house there's also lots of art here as well, like the van Gogh museum or rijksmuseum, definitely worth a visit sometime!

You'd better get used to your credit card(s) not being accepted in The Netherlands. We use bank cards over here, which are cheaper (also per transaction), safer (there's no number you need to give others to pay them which they could then use to pay in your name) and more convenient (money is just deducted from your bank account instead of you either having to charge a debit card or effectively constantly having a loan for anything you pay). Or at least that's how I'd say most Dutch think about it. Everybody uses these over here, so shops have no real reason to accept credit cards other than for tourists.
I know credit cards have PIN codes too nowadays, but somehow stores can still choose whether to ask for that and there's thus still places you can pay without any authentication or by drawing something random (a signature, very hard to prove it wasn’t you who made a payment with such 'proof').

We do pay a lot by (Maestro) Debit card. I had to get a credit card when I traveled in England but I also could use my debit card is stores.

Honestly Amsterdam is not the most special place in the NL. It's a bit overrated and lots of Dutch people don't understand the hype, I agree with them :)

I'm Dutch: a little explanation why you could not pay with Visa at Albert Heijn.
In the Netherlands, there's many places that don't accept Visa. Even Albert Heijn - which is a major supermarket chain here. I only found out after my Irish boyfriend came to the Netherlands for a visit for the first time. It's because Albert Heijn actually has to pay for any Visa transaction, which costs them money. It's improving A LOT though I've noticed. In most large cities, you can now pay with Visa but in non-touristic neighbourhoods and on the countryside, your card still might not be accepted everywhere. It can be very random and depend per store. We've had situations in which my boyfriend's card wasn't accepted somewhere in Amsterdam but was in a tiny little village. Just make sure you have some cash if you are a Visa card holder and visit the Netherlands. Your card will be accepted at any ATM though!
I have to say, my first experience in the Netherlands was quite disappointing. The people were utterly rude for no real reason. When you said you are from Germany then even more.
