  • Several weeks ago, it was revealed that Boeing was considering purchasing Spirit AeroSystems in the wake of Alaska Airlines' midair blowout incident to better manage its supply chain and safety protocols.
It was never going to be a straightforward deal as Spirit AeroSystems has diversified its client list over the years to include several other companies, including Boeing’s rival Airbus. Now, reports suggest that both Airbus and Boeing are exploring options to split the operations of the supplier.

Was it only Boeing that had quality issues with Spirit products i.e. it's their own specs that were the trouble, or have Spirit-Airbus quality problems been minor so received less publicity?

Boeing makes up around 65% of Spirit Aerosystems business. Airbus just around 20%.
Thus even if both would have had the same issues, it at least would be three times worse for Boeing.
However, Airbus had very different contracts with Spirit Aerosystems than Boeing.
From what I heard Airbus workers too took offense at the quality of some parts delivered by Spirit Aerosystems. But it seems that was within the realm of the "usual" issues expected. Whatever that's supposed to mean.
Unlike Boeing who not only had to send over inspectors, but workers too. And even Spirit Aerosystems having to send over workers to Boeing in order to fix parts.
It seems this never happened with Airbus and Spirit Aerosystems.

Necessity may dictate that both Boeing and Airbus split this buyout. They need the fuselages it makes for their planes. But it'll take years to correct the demoralization that Boeing's abusive and tight-fisted treatment of Spirit Aerosystems has created and without that Spirit's quality control will continue to mediocre.

Fighting? They're literally cooperating. Did you watch the video? China has no opportunity to grab, and nothing to offer. The C919 isn't even certified to fly outside of China in 2024! They have some forced domestic orders, but nobody else. The C919 is by no means Chinese only, they also have Western parts.
