That ready player one voiceline is actually reference to old arcade games, where it would say ready player 1 right before you started. That’s the inspiration for the book too.
Roadhog also has a voice line in which he says “life is pain, so is death” which is almost certainly a reference to Sloth from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

And even before quake, people were using explosives to reach plataforms back in the first doom game. The same is true about the railgun, it was such a popular weapon that it turned into a new game mode (railgun only). We are talking mid 90s (quake) vs mid 2000s (team fortress).

Not enough LOTR references and one Zelda reference would make me oh so happy. But really, everyone's a critic and they packed a TON of really cool references into the voicelines. This is one of the redeeming qualities of Overwatch 2 and Blizzard games in general!

Not enough LOTR references and one Zelda reference would make me oh so happy. But really, everyone's a critic and they packed a TON of really cool references into the voicelines. This is one of the redeeming qualities of Overwatch 2 and Blizzard games in general!

I think some of these voice lines are phrases that have been around for a long time and probably can't be traced back to single reference. Very good video, though!

You forgot reaper’s “dead man walking” voice line. It’s a reference to Undertaker’s American badass gimmick where his theme song was “rollin by limp bizkit” and the theme would start with undertaker’s voice coming in the titantron saying “dead man walking” before the song dropped. 😁
7:41 Sorry but ramattra is clearly referencing Roland from the hit game Library of Ruina by ProjectMoon. He also says “Angela, you have to feel the same sorrow as mine….No, you have feel even worse than that.” when you kill mercy during valkyrie.
