- Blind tasting from 4 different Padang / Minang restaurants. I don’t trust my palette so I get a local on the case. Which Rendang will be the best? There’s Sederhana, Surya, Pagi Sore and Nasi Kapau.
Thankyou Ayu and friends for your help in this challenge ☺️

Loving your posts Mark. Informative, entertaining, creative and authentic... Rendang beef is one of my faves 😋 🙏🏼🧡🙏🏼
Thanks MD, but I do it for the wrong reasons, I do it for the fame 😎 🤣
@tuckereats9146 🤣🤣🤣 Of course you do!
Nice video
Love it from Borneo Indonesia 🎉🎉❤
Niiiiice. Thankyou 🙏🏼☺️
If we’re judging by looks alone, Pagi Sore’s rendang wins-it’s exactly how I picture rendang: dark and rich from the long cooking process. Did you record this during Ramadan? Perfect timing; otherwise, every food spot in Jakarta would’ve been packed. And this only came out in October-talk about a backlog! Good luck with the editing! 💪
Yes I did. I had lots of China vids to get thru and I only release every fortnight so it was pretty backed up. But next episode was filmed last month, I returned to Jakarta on the way to India so I managed to get an episode in.
Thanks for tuning in 🙏🏼
@ Well, having a backlog just means you’ve been busy traveling and eating, sounds fantastic! No need to rush the editing; you want to give your viewers the best. Can’t rush art! And with all those regional cuisines from China, Indonesia, and India, you’ve got a lot to explore. Just remember to take a breather and enjoy the process! 🙏 Cheers! 🍻
Good advice mate. It’s also just a hobby so I don’t want it to feel like a job and yeah I want to edit the crap out of every episode. The next episode probably took 40 hours 😱
@@tuckereats9146 Wait, 40 hours to edit one video? Crikey, that’s wild! 😳 But hey, as long as you’re having a good time, right? You said it yourself: it’s a hobby, not a job, so it shouldn’t feel like hard yakka. Props to you for sticking with it. Keep up the good work, mate! Cheers! 🍻
Yeah 40 hours was a bit much, I’d say most episodes take maybe 10-15 hours. Are you also a vlogger?
Randang is a type of cooking.. I believe something like roasting.. stiring while cooking that takes hours.. We call it Marandang.. We have different kind of this meal in different place in Minang such as randang ayam (chicken), randang telur (eggs), randang paru (lung), randang lokan (clams), randang otak (brain), randang udang (shrimps), and many more depends on culture place.. Ofcourse the famous one is randang daging sapi (beef).. Come to West Sumatra to explore Minang cusins.. Anyway thanks for promoting rendang in your vlog.. Huge respect from Padang
Thankyou that’s a very insightful comment. From an outsider I’ve always considered Rendang as a dish, but you’re saying it’s a term for the style of cooking. I guess like stir fry or ladera. I’ve never thought of it like that! I think a trip to West Sumatra would be a good idea so I can explore the cuisine in greater detail. Thankyou for watching and leaving a comment, much appreciated ☺️🙏🏼
Very nice info brother thank you for sharing
Wow my fav food is nasi padang ayam pop and beef rendang😅. Nice video. I look forward to seeing your a new video in Jakarta again. I ve subscribed your channel 👍
@@adhistygenno2398 Thanks for your support 🙏🏼 Next episode is a Top 10 restaurants Jakarta….. and there’s a Minang restaurant in the mix. I love Nasi Padang too but if I think about it, I don’t think I’ve had Ayam Pop before. Is it like boiled ayam with a hot red chili sauce?
no shot you are doing a blind taste test in a white shirt😂
what a confident man
I like to live life on the edge. But yes it’s a good point, a smarter man would’ve worn a brown shirt!
Ok Ali, I accept your challenge to film a streetfood episode in a fancy white shirt!
Very great video brother
Thanks bro 🤝 My dad told me it was the worst video I have made 😂
Where u eat and like the best rendang in sederhana?, You have to remember where the location you eat and sometimes the taste is different in each restaurant maybe there're to many brances in many city.. Dunno why..
Btw sederhana have 3 logos..
SA = the original one
SB = franchise and same receipe with the original one
SC = fake i think.. taste difference every menu in SA n SB
Try another padang resto like RM Garuda (cikini raya street, jakarta) and Rumah Makan Sepakat (melawai street, jakarta)
I like almost all menu in Pagi Sore and rumah makan sepakat
Sorry for my bad english 😂
The Sederhana that I really loved was the one in Benhil, but that was the same one I had in the blind tasting. But y’know when I filmed this i had a cold and my palette was affected, so maybe that had an impact, though Ayu put Sederhana last too 🤔
Thankyou for your suggestions of other Minang restaurants, in my next episode I visit another Minang place which is really good too….. No spoilers 😜
Thankyou for your comment and your English is very good, much much much better than my Bahasa Indonesia!
nice video
Thanks for watching! 🙏🏼
Waow rendang
Exactly 😜
Pas gua yang ke seratus like
🥳 Thankyou for your hundredth like 👍🙏🏼
Nice video
Love you from Java Indonesia 🇮🇩🇮🇩
Thankyou so much 🫶🏻
In Indonesia there are many colors and flavors of rendang but the original one is dark and slightly spicy
It’s quite diverse. Do you have a recommendation for what you would consider to be the original?
now I want to eat rendang for lunch after watching
Do you want to eat it blindfolded? 😜
please try toko kopi tuku, the founder of es kopi gula aren (palm sugar coffee)
I had a look on Google Maps, definitely interested. I’ll hit it up next time I’m in town. Thanks for the suggestion 🙏🏼
Come to east java
Ok Surabaya?
@@tuckereats9146 Malang city and Tumpak sewu waterfall
@@biancaaprilia-l1q Looks so nice and close to Bromo too. I’ll put it on my Java road trip itinerary!

@tuckereats9146 glad to see your youtube contents, enjoy your trip.
Thanks mate ☺️🙏🏼
Actually, marandang is not an Indonesian word. It is specific Minang verb, and if you say "marandang" to the other parts of Indonesia, no one would understand what the word means. As diverse as our cuisine, so are our languages. For example, in my language, I call marandang as nggongso. Nggongso has different spices than marandang, but refer to the same method. Cooking until dry. I am not sure if there is Indonesian translation of "marandang" or "nggongso".
Also, don't use the word in Jakarta as a verb. Jakarta people refer gongso as dish from Java that is cooked until it dries, and rendang as dish from Padang that cooked in the same way. They should have another word for it in Sundanese or Betawinese, but I don't understand their language.
Really, that’s good to know. Thankyou for the information. ☺️
Let em eat, they doesnt wanna know the history behind the dishes, just simply eat 😂
