- This is a well known Buddy Rich classic that I've played many times with a local big band here in Chicago. I decided to make a video playing along on my Bonham sized stainless steel Ludwig kit, for a change of pace.

I was lucky to see the Buddy Rich big band play Love For Sale live. I also saw Rich in a his small group phase at small club in Boston in 1974. Illinois Jacquet was supposed to play sax but was not there. Someone asked Buddy from the audience, “where’s Illinois”. Buddy said, “why, did they move it?”.
😂 classic Buddy! That's awesome
O my God- cymbals sound incredible!
Thanks Terry! I love that 24 602
This channel's new tagline: "Bomhanology, come for the Bonzo, stay for the excellent drumming"
Come for the Bonham stay for the Rich..
Somebody asked Buddy what he thought of John Bonham and he got angrily to his feet, sat down at his drums and played some awesome Bonzo
licks then growled, "Anybody can play like that!" I can imagine what it sounded like, George, now I have a better idea what it looked like.
😂
What's not to love about this!!!
All iCan say after watching all of your videos is you are one hell of a drummer really top notch well-rounded one of the best I’ve ever seen it is a true pleasure to listen to your skill I have been listening to various drummers for at least 50 years I play myself but not to your caliber I hope you keep this up for many years to come you deserve recognition for your hard work
I really appreciate that, thank you! 🙏🏻
🥁🎶!!!
❤
Fantastic. Thank you!
That's a gorgeous sounding ride. Nice pick there
Thanks, yeah ..I love it
Very tasty love this thankyou George
Beautiful playing! And combining (IMHO) the two greatest drummers to walk the planet - Buddy & Bonzo! Thanks for sharing.
Noice. You play just as skillfully with drum grip as you do with match grip.
❤👍
Just set my kit and sticks on fire because I just realized I'm a caveman compared to this. Impressive performance, George, to say the least.
Just fantastic wowowow
Excellent!
You are Awesome my Brother , I like it to much 🎶🥁🎶
Is that a clarinet? In the key of 'W', for woodwind instrument haha!
Love the swingy jazzy big band jam!
🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
I am so geeking out! Can I request you to cover Count Basie's Shiny Stockings (instrumental) ?
Amazing!
Sounded great! I especially like that ride cymbal. I'm surprised with how well it blended. It sounded like it really belonged in this recording.
The little yell at 3:56-3:57 was just icing on the cake. (Sounded like Buddy yelling his approval at your snare work.)
Awesome!
Thanks!
Holy molly, just love this one George. Listened to this song since I was...well many many decades ago, have it on vinyl : ) Still kicks ass today and you killed it. Buddy R. has to be one of hardest to do because he was so natural. Can't wait for West Side Story : )
😅
🔥🥁🔥
I used to get so excited when Buddy would be on the Tonight Show he would play a great solo sometimes Johnny would play then when Buddy would have those drum battles with Ed Shaughnessy himself a great drummer that would make my night because shortly after that all three stations would go off the air until 6:00 AM in the morning lol.
yeah, good memories, simpler days.....so inspirational
This is just grown man drumming right here. Fantastic George! ✌❤🥁
👌
They have almost similar setup
Very similar
Well done George 👏🏻
That was awesome!
Sounds great
Absolutely love this!! Thank you for sharing.
Awesome
Good view
Would enjoy a breakdown of some Buddy fills, someday. Great work as always George
The Best Giorge!💥💪👍
Hit hat model?
Thanks.Those are 14 inch 60's era A Zildjians
Good stuff.
That was sick. I’m so glad I got to see that.
Top notch songs selection, of course! Top-notch playing too, always great to see you playing classics. 👌
Extraordinary!!! Not only are you the greatest Bonham drummer, you can also flawlessly play Max Roach and Buddy Rich! And nice single strokes at 3:53!
🙏🏼
Holy Crap! George amazing 👏 ❤
Bravo 👏 lucky enough to see him twice from close to stage as well as get his autograph!!
Same here. I saw him maybe three times, got his autograph, and got to carry some of his drums onto his tour bus. 😃
@@BONHAMOLOGY wow!! A roadie for buddy rich 😀
@@casimirok2760 😂 for about 5 minutes!
Brilliant…. It’s a fantastic sounding kit !
Wow! That was great. I always enjoy the overhead perspective.
This was amazing! Cheers! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️🥁
Such a great feel here George. This song needs big drums!
What is the weight of the 602 24?
Could you Answer this question and I think you probably know it John Bonham 70 Green sparkle kit the inside was it maple or was it painted with that gray stuff?
It had to be natural finish, I don't think they started Granitone paint until at least 72-73.
Thank you so much for your time I have been enjoying your videos for many years I have a 1971 sparkle grain bottom set and it does have a natural finish. It’s very light. The drums are not heavy at all, and they have a unique sound.
1971 Green sparkle Bonham kit
So nice. I hope you'll find time to do some Focus in the future.
Yes, Thanks for the reminder
Hey Gorge what 24” modern ride Cymbal can I buy that sounds close to your cymbal I like 24’s for there wide range and versatility
I would say the new 602 24, especially a lighter one
@@BONHAMOLOGY thank you Gorge
Oooohh NICE! More Buddy! How do you start a recording if you are leading the tempo like that? I’ve always wondered how you do that. Thanks Professor!!!
Nicely played. Is the ride cymbal also a 2002?
It's a vintage 602 24 'Thin'
@@BONHAMOLOGY sweet - I have a pre-serial 22' 602 Thin and I haven't seen too many people do sound demos on the Thin. As the name implies it can get quite washy but man you've got that one under control.
Is this from the live Big Swing Face album?
Yes!
Had tickets see Buddy at my high school back in '87. Was cancelled due to him suffering a stroke. He died shortly after😔
Oh that's a shame 😢
Nice 😎😎
