Fx13 is alright. I love and many people in japan love lightning. But part 2 is pointless. Its like just fluff. It's a waste of time and money...its not bad but...its like watching all the marvel tv shows hoping they are in the mcu and finding they are not really important. After investing 20 hours of your life
@@Eclin doesn't have the impact that it did a decade ago, so it's not that big of a deal to be called a weeb anymore, it's like Nazi and white supremacist, it's been thrown around without the proper context so much that it's just lost its meaning, You mention the word Japan and some kid would call you a weeb, devoid of what weeaboo means
I know this is a old comment but yeah man FFXIII has an amazing soundtrack like god damn. The only thing that beats this soundttack FFX which is a very close second
you must really like Serah's theme because the melody is featured in like 10 different osts in throughout the game lol. All jokes aside tho, there are some real gems like "fighting fate", "yashass massif", and "blinded by light"
It's crazy how you were exactly right about Vanille's voice. I almost feel like you lowkey looked it up, but yeah she (the VA) was told to match that Japanese mannerisms, ie the awkward sounds.
Vanille's voice isn't as hard to listen to as say... Genis in Symphonia. Or... alright, I'm struggling to think of many examples of bad voices that aren't parody like star ocean or shadow hearts. I think Vanille has some nice lines and has a pleasant voice to listen to. The va gave her a charming accent and the added noises aren't so off putting that she deserves the amount of hate she gets.
Life Is Strange is the game I played a week after my mom died. But FF13 was my first FF game and I re played it a couple of months ago and I still love it :)
I am so sorry for your loss. It is really nice to hear that games can have such a positive impact on someone. Ff13 really is a beautiful game. Wish you both the best!
GrantedBunion Hope was a 14 year old kid with a dead mother. He’s understandable in certain regards with how he acted. Snow was a grown man who endangered the lives of everyone around him while proclaiming himself to be a hero, something that is touched on in the story. I have much less sympathy for a child than an adult who should know better
@@GrantedBunion Snow easily. Hope was a brat who had only experienced happiness before the whole thing happened, he's forced to watch his mother die, he's forced to endure the presence of the one he considered guildty of the event and he really doesn't know what he should do. He's very understandable. Snow however, was a reckless guy with good intentions but not the maturity to see that he and his friends didn't really have the power to fulfill their ideals, he refuses to give up and his irresponsibily is what caused almost everyone but Vanille and Fang to be in the whole mess. Were he decieved into thinking he could change things with his methods I could sympathized with him, but multiple characters said that his rebellion would fail, that he would drag others around him to the mud with his actions. But he didn't listen.
Personally I did love Lightning as a protagonist... I mean after having Tidus and Vaan in the previous games it was a welcome change to have a protagonist that was a bit more "tough".
This was actually my first final fantasy game and I really enjoyed both the story, aesthetics and gameplay. The criticism this game receives is valid and I see how it rubs a lot of people (especially FF fans) the wrong way. I still think fondly about the original title and enjoy the overall package for what it is, flaws and all.
The thing about FF13 is... it was originally going to be MUCH bigger, but they had to cut like half the content - If I remember correctly it was a memory space issue, as the game already took up 3 discs for the xbox version. I really loved the world and the characters - people can cry all they want but the characterization is GOOD. But as RamZaes said, it starts off with all the heavy stuff - and everyone deals very realistically in the situation they are in. Hope being whiny (he lost his MOM for F's sake), Vanille trying to run away from her responsibilty, Snow being in denial ("optmistic") etc. Which is unfortunately not the best way to get to know the characters. But I double dare anyone to tell me it's bad writing. And it really shows. There is so much world building in the game's log that they had to cram in there and it makes me sad every time when I think about it. They also had sections planned where you could have walked around destroyed Coocoon towns and talk to NPCs to break down the linearity of it all. I love this game. I love the whole Cocoon/Pulse setting. The Fal'cie and Focus lore. Everything. It has its flaws, obviously, but I so wish I could have seen the whole thing before they trimmed it down. Because despite everything, the world, characters and story managed to get me invested in this particular entry of the series for many years. I will always yearn for all that cut content.
@@christianboustani8284 The story itself is weird because how everyone was just cool with their Cocoon being turned to crystal but at least they try to make sense of XIII-1's story with Etro interfering with human affairs, which fucks with the timeline.
Sazh was the only character I could get behind. Snow was an annoying shit and so was Noah sucked because he pussied out on killing Snow. Lightning had a range of two emotions, anger an indifference. The story relied on these characters to make me care but except for Sazh, I couldn't.
I honestly had a really good time with XIII. Yes, it's mostly linear, but that was my only issue and even then it didn't bother me that much. I liked the characters (Sazh is my 3rd favorite FF character after 9's Vivi as #1 and 12's Balthier as #2), the story was fine, and the battle system and music were great. XV on the other hand was my letdown. It had a few good aspects, but too many negatives for me. Also, at least XIII was the complete package (to the point that I never cared about XIII-2 or 3, to me the story was already done), I wasn't missing parts of the story because I didn't buy a bunch of DLC, watched a movie and an anime mini-series, CHRIST, why were you like this, XV?!
I liked 13 thought it was very short and wished you could explore some towns at least. My issue was enemies had way too much health and it just felt like the game needed more time to be fleshed out. I absolutely loved how colorful it Was and I liked the characters it was just a skinny rpg for me
doctordoom85 hey at least you don’t have to spend days grinding in xv just to beat the story ( in fact you need to grind so much many people will recommend you take out a post game hunt with death just so you can get an accessory to double exp so you can make the Grinding time halved) 15 at least is over quickly ( in fact if you want since you can basically avoid all damage by holding the square button then pressing circle for non post game stuff) you don’t even need to worry about levels you can beat things at the minimum possible levels to have at that point. 13 drags on way too long because of the mandatory grinding for the story. It’s not your typical ohh you can beat the main story without grinding but once you wanna do post game then you have to grind ( or x’s being able to beat the game no sphere grid and even some post game stuff and giving you the arena tomberry trick to get levels real fast for post game) you just gotta grind for hours just to beat some of the final story bosses. Now granted 13’s battle system is better then 15 but it ain’t good enough to make that kind of tedious gameplay fun. 15’s characters aren’t outright horrible In the beginning ( 13’s characters are some of the worst in the series till you get to the section that is their arc ( specifically when they are leading up to getting their summons) and makes the beginning bad from a character arc aspect. ( while the end is bad from a power curve aspect of the player vs the enemies) 15 is consistently ok to good on both these fronts. In other words 15 is a way more balanced game then 13 and the characters don’t have an extended period of time where they are the worst in the series till you get specifically to their sections.
i like ffxiii a lot but it could have been so much better if they got rid of the linear areas and had a couple more areas the size of pulse, and you spend the majority of the game traversing those areas and purse, with just a few of those linear areas thrown in when nessessary. lighning returns is my favorite because it pretty much does this, although 2 of the 4 areas are pretty small and cramped, it's still a great game.
Jack M linear progression isn’t necessarily a bad thing just linear corridor progression. Maybe instead of the world just being a bunch of hallways have what appears to be an open area then a boss fight comes in then when you defeat it the boss closes off the area by starting a fire that forces the characters to run out of there. This gives the impression that the world isn’t just one way and that your enemies are doing whatever they can to block your progress.
Couldn't finish 13, LOVED 13-2 though. Those multiple endings are good fun unlocking Lightning returns is pretty good too, the combat was pretty tight, one of my favourite things is that Bosses ARE NOT IMMUNE TO STATUS AILMENTS, THE THINGS YOU WANT TO AILMENT THE MOST! Seriously, so many JRPGs do this where sleep, paralysis and poison is useless come boss time but Lightning Returns lets you have fun getting them working on bosses, mostly when they are staggered and it's SOOOO fun/freeing/fair/cool/so on!
I really didn't expect Lightning Returns to be so good gameplay wise. My first playthrough I did everything I could, including making every possible monster extinct, even that didn't tire me out. I only completed story modes of the first two games.
Hot take: Personally, I don't mind FF13 that much. I'll agree that the story is eh, and the characters miss more than they hit in likability, but I feel the gameplay is, for the most part, a lot of fun, and I found the world interesting up till Pulse.
I think if they reworked the crystarium and allowed you to change characters earlier, it could be pretty enjoyable. I replayed it recently and it was fun because I made a speedrun until the last chapter, because of the gameplay.
Xiii wasn't bad really, the Paradigm and stagger system were really fun especially in late game. Hell the stagger system in it's entirety is completely in FFVIIR. That really speaks to how well it worked.
I think a lot of people saw the auto-battle option and quit the game there, before all other battle mechanics were introduced. I mean, in this game choosing what skills or items to use is only 1/3 of the battle gameplay. There's also the paradigm and stagger mechanics, which all work together to form one of the most complex battle systems to spawn from the classic turn-based one. And the combat animations are just fluid, beautiful and very fun to watch, XIII's battle system is like a hack-n-slash with menus.
As someone who played FF13 and FF7 remake. Although stagger systems were there. I wouldn't say ff13 was the game that revolutionized the stagger system. It just happen to be the next 3d game and it was natural course to include a stagger system. Especially since Persona has been doing it for a long time before final fantasy. With that said. I did not enjoy the Paradigm shifts or be restricted by one character to control their actions while the others are by paradigms. For the good half of the game you have to analyze each paradigm before getting into battle just to know what you're possibly going to be doing with paradigms. The game feels automatic because 60% of it is automatic. The 30% you do control in battle just doesn't feel as satisfying
Honestly, the ost is kinda weak too for a final fantasy game. Soooooo many of the tracks are remixes/rearrangements of either Serah’s theme or lightnings theme. There are a few good tracks though
Honestly this was one of my favorite FF games. I never understood the hatred, it was just bandwagoning to me. There were some hitches but nothing too major. You really should have mentioned how amazing and bittersweet the ending of 13 was. It honestly was to me the best ending in all of the FF series, and 13-2 followed that trend perfectly.
Groupthink definitely played a role in the vocal dislike, given that it was successful enough that two other games were still greenlighted. Imo very few mainstream pieces of media really deserve mass criticism such as Game of Thrones season 8 and Battlefront 2
It was just so boring to me. The story didn't really capture my attention. Lightning kept making me mad as well as Hope with his dumb revenge idea. I kept getting bothered by how much larger Snow was to his wife (but that's a personal matter). Then you got the gameplay. At first, I thought it was neat, but then I started to get bored of that as well. After a while, all I had to do was keep pressing X without any thought and win. Now of course once you get to the open world area, you can't do that anymore. But that's end game stuff. I'm talking about majority of the story before Grand pulse. I can only speak for 2 FF games that I played before. FFX and FF7. And you can't just press X for the majority of the game and win. You'll get owned real quick. I don't hate FF13, I think it's a decent game. Just not a great one compared to the others in the series.
@Cyberdemon Mike I didn't grind super hard. I just 5 starred most battles and I did fine. There were a few bosses I got stuck on but overall I eventually figured out what I needed to do to win. Only one battle in the whole game made me feel like it was pure luck that I won and that was Vanille's eidolon
@@Mastabacc As for FFX and FF7. You actually could for the majority of the game just spam X if you wanted to in 7. The only bosses that required any real thought were the side content of 7 and in 10 while it did introduce mechanics that required thought to get through you could brute force it if you wanted to. Even when it did require thought all it was is use the strongest spell or attack of what the enemy was weak to until it dies. FF13 just made that method easier by not making you scroll through it. Also sentinel Pretty much REQUIRED you to not "just press X" once you got entrench. I remember Snow's sentinel got SO bad once I learned that because he'd spam that with auto battle instead of Mediguard or Guard. I had to manually use that over and over every fight I used his Sentinel. Belthanderous and the summons also made you not "just press X" to win. The game wasn't so much about picking the right moves. It was more about picking the right classes for the fights. That said occasionally you'd have to pick the right moves yourself too. I don't know how it was so easy for you unless you followed a guide or someone told you how busted Relentless Assault was
Y’know, I went into this video bracing for another one of those “characters bad story confusing and also press x to win” reviews (which are still valid opinions even though I disagree) but I was pleasantly surprised! While I disagree with a few of your points about characterization (namely Hope, but even so, THANK YOU for pointing out that he’s fourteen and just saw his mom die right in front of him, everyone seems to forget that, and also if real world fourteen year olds are anything to go by, it makes sense that he’d be emotionally all over the place), I think this is a very fair review. This is one of my favorite games of all time, despite its obvious flaws, but its story and characters mean the world to me. And thank you for pointing out that the characters’ anger and frustration at their situation is justified, because it totally is! Lightning, for example, is a fantastic example of a complex character. It’s so refreshing to see her actually allowed to express very relatable human emotions and I LOVE that she’s allowed to be such an imperfect person in the beginning and slowly grow over the course of the story. And I also just realized how much I’ve rambled but this is a good video, and thank you for giving the game such a fair chance.
@Cyberdemon Mike I don't really think any of the characters are trash, it just feels like they had entire areas that focus on one characters development, Fang for example only developed a character after the L'Cie training grounds but she is one of the main reasons that Vanille started to change from just being a casual airhead, Hopes mindset is one of my favourites in this game, he changes so much and when he reaches his last character change (when he gets his eidolon) he is a pretty stable character who has no doubts about anyone he is with and his goals, Sazh is the only character that doesn't change much from the beginning but he starts as a very stable character, he does have an arc in the game when he is with Vanille but it doesn't really amount to a change in himself, it is more so it ends up being another plot device for Vanille more than it was for him. If you have examples of "trash characters" in this game I'd love to hear who they are and why you think they are trash
xiii was really fun and one of my favorites. The story is really well done even if most of it is hidden in the archives, and the world is so interesting. I understand why people don’t like it but i think it doesn’t deserve the hate it gets
FF XIII is an acquired taste... either that, or Stockholm syndrome (I like the game, too, btw... at the time of its release I was kinda disappointed, because I thought it was a step down from XII, back to more linear X... but it fits the narrative, so, I guess that's OK)
If he's going throughthe FF games in reverse order, then that means after XIII-2 and Lightning Returns, we'll be getting XII Zodiac Age and Revenant Wings
If that's the case... We'll get to III and II one day... YEEEESSSSSHHHH!!! (Not gonna lie I love those 2 FF, well, maybe "like" for FF2 since I just started it.)
They returned to human form from being a crystal at the end because Ethro took pity of them. Which is the reason why ffxiii2 happened. They aren't supposed to be alive
@@chrisdaughen5257 Yes. It was Etro's divine intervention which, again is done with good intentions but has its consequences. She disrupted destiny or the timeline causing more troubles, hence the sequels.
@@itsChanandler This makes me wonder if she knew she would die and did it to eventually turn Lightning against Bhunevelza. Her death in 13-2 caused so much trouble, she'd have to have an end-goal.

@@BrendenBarlow Playing through the game for the first time now. I'm about 15 hours in now. I thought the voice actor for Vanille had a speech impediment until I looked it up.
It was my first FF, so I too had no expectations, and it will forever be my favorite, and one of my favorite games period. The characters may start out "unlikable" but they're all incredibly realistic and human (well okay, _mostly_ ), and their development is SO good, particularly Lightning, Hope, and Snow's. The battle system is fun and much more strategic than people give it credit for (those who say it's bad just mashed auto-battle and never explored it more in-depth), the music is beautiful, and the linearity is a valid complaint, for sure, but honestly it never bothered me because I was just so startstruck by the gorgeous/awesome backgrounds and settings. An amazing game.
The 13 series are my favorite in the series. I like that they make me think and i love being rewarded for good reflexes. As fun as 7 is, im not a fan of being able to mash 'attack' in 80% of fights.
@raihan abmny Why do you think the story is trash? Everytime I ask this question, the answer is: because it's confusing. Well guess what. Literally every Final Fantasy game since 4 has a confusing story. Some even have the same confusing name schemes that people can't keep up with.
@raihan abmny I have played all three and I like all of them as well as liking FFXIII. No I don't see it as the worst of the series. Unlike you, I don't need "fans" telling me what to like because I can think for myself.
@raihan abmny You say it's his own opinion, yet you're the one arguing with him just because he thinks Xiii has a good story. Did it really bother you? You could've just instead read his comment and scroll by. I don't understand what it is with Final Fantasy fans like you, and not being capable of respecting other people's opinions. It's pathetic and downright childish.
@@shampoo4012 it might simply be the need to let out some stress, and having a disagreement over something is not a good productive way... but it is a way to let stress out...
I get so confused on the “not likable characters” I fell in love with the characters and continued the game for them but the gameplay in the first one sucks. I mainly will just watch the movie version of it on RUclips 🤷♀️
@@DarkSeraph Lightning gets edgy and dark like Cloud and Squall. She puts on the tough persona because she hates weakness, but she later learns that the tough persona was the real weakness. Hope is whiny, naive, and young like Tidus and Vaan. He matures/sobers up pretty quickly after seeing the true nature of Snow and getting a taste of that depression. Vanille is doing some 4d hide feelings and information type shit, like Edge, Kain or Auron. Except she does it in the happy way. She blames herself for a lot of things and breaks down, but all the time before then she is just racked with guilt and knowledge. Fang is a rough and simple idealist, like Wakka, Barret or Yang. She just wants Vanille to be okay, despite selfishly knowing what that implies (killing so many people for it). Snow is a fake optimist who knows that he is full of shit but tries to fake it til he makes it. He's honestly pretty compelling and unique and hard to compare any other FF character to. The closest is Rikku or Tifa maybe. The dude has the pressure of being a leader to a lot of people so he knows that if he shows pain, everyone else will feel it. Sazh is an existentialist who almost kills himself because he realizes what an absolute failure he has been, being bitter about a situation that he couldn't have really changed, like Cloud, Vincent, or Squall. He hides it with humor. YEAH you can compare them to any other FF game characters that you want, but they are pretty compelling/interesting no matter who you compare it to. The entire thing gives me Cowboy Bebop vibes. It's all sort of down and depressing. They all are humanly flawed and don't really feel unnatural. Fang is the least developed I would say.
@@Ajaxlancer lightning is only edgy and dark because she had to grow up to fast, or more rather was forced to grow up... hope watched his mom die, thats why he is emotional in the first place, but yes like you said matures out of that around chapter 7 when he realizes how dumb he is... for the other 4 i pretty much agree, except sazh, him id compare more to barret, dad at heart, wants what best for everyone, and wants to make everything okay and of everything still love 13
RamZaes hope you see this message When you get to final fantasy 7 I hope you realize the parallels of these two games openings. They really tried to make a other ff7 big hit (look at past interviews) Lightning the character is based off Cloud, her look, her history (soldier), her 'ass hole' personality. They tried to recreate the magic of 7 but it became a bit to convulted too quick. Their designs echo the ff7 cast of being Street wear
@@Samm815 But those kind of protags seem to be the ones who are the most liked in the FF fanbase, I barely see the other protags talked about who are not Cloud, Squall, and Lightening. And Tidus and Noctis are only talked about because of memes. Granted I feel like if Lightening was a guy people would hate her a call her a cloud rip off, but because she's a girl people like her.
ff13 combat was terrible. The bosses were bullet sponges. Paradimes synergist was required to even play right or you die. I don't understand half of the enemies because they don't do much it's a confusing story and I didn't even get half way through. I like the game but I don't know why. I got to a tower with this face thing that had a million health. A million serieously.
I love how it's possible to see lots of things in this game in a more positive light, but the linear hallways are so nonredeemable that nobody can ever see anything good in them. lol
@@fauzanadrian1593 You get plenty of context on the world despite linearity. FFX was pretty much a giant hallway the entire game, as was FF7. Just because a game isn't open world like FFXV doesn't it's bad because it's linear.
@@fauzanadrian1593 FF7 literally locked you out of areas once you left them, several times. It was also a 1 direction hallway. When you get to the world map, there is nothing to do but just go to the next point because nothing happens in the other areas. FFX also locks you out of areas after you leave them all the way up until the very end when you have the airship. Yeah 1 direction is good for storytelling. No one cares about a "vast open world exploration" when it's just empty. FFXV had a large world but most of it was uninteresting and empty. They even give you a car to skip past all of the empty stuff until you get to towns. Linearity doesn't make a game bad nor does it even really have a negative effect. You people just want to find something to complain about.
@@Ajaxlanceryeah i agree, same with 6, same with 5, same with all final fantasy really, big giant hallways, just some games are better at desguising it then others are.... some like 13 and 10 are more honest about it XD
Final Fantasy 13 was my first "numbered" final fantasy. I love this game because the characters are realistic emotionaly at lest to me anyway. I don't really get all the hate Lightning gets, then again you don't get the whole reasons for why the personality for each characters is the way they are unless you read the side stories/novels for the FF13 series
The term FF13 waifu gets thrown around a lot. I would like to enter a very overlooked entry. Jihl Nabaat. She's only in play for a handful of scenes, but man alive is she hot AF.
I'm thinking hard if there were any other female characters (or any other characters, in that matter - besides the main crew... in XIII alone, don't mean XIII-2 or LR)... except Lebreau, of course (my FF13 waifu, do not touch!) anyway, whatever happened to the N.O.R.A. crew (minus Snow... did they just... die of old age, off screen? They never mention them ever again... if they do, I haven't noticed... I mean, these are awesomely designed characters, judging their looks alone... OK! Nevermind, then, I read they made it to the new world, but you have to read some book... why can't all the info be just in the games? Like, did you know, that FF10's Sin returns after X-2 and Yuna and Tidus have to battle it again? WTF, right? I admit, I've been derping on the wikis maybe too much, lately)
Yeah, I remember the whole "Its linear shit" topics when the game game out. People were bashing it and said people haven't even reached Pulse yet. Remember spending hours doing missions and grinding so I could get more CP as Barthaneleus was just whooping my ass
I didn't have problem with the game being linear (so was X), I had problem with the fact that I couldn't revisit the Cocoon locations >.> (like, you get these "gates" or portals or whatever... from Eden back to Pulse... near the end of the game, I mean... So, why no portals back to Cocoon? It's not like the locations are destroyed at that point in the game, heck, some even still exist in XIII-2... or that it's on an earlier disc, kinda like how disc 3 for FF7 and disc 4 for FF8 and FF9 lock up most of the locations... not that you couldn't insert the disc or anything... Speaking of discs, now that I think about it, the xbox FF13 was on 3 DVDs, wasn't it? Could be why).

You pretty much voiced my opinion on everything perfectly. Lots of cool things like the amazing world, fun but different fighting system, pacing. Also the negatives like the constant forced group 10 hours into the game (although in some places you have no healer, and the game does a good job making it so you dont need one). I loved being able to make multi class makeups but with the ease of on the fly switching to accomplish my strategy. I cant wait to see you cover the other 2... well at least the next one. ff13-3 was just all sorts of bad.
Jeff D I think 13-3 was actually pretty good. I think most ppl's opinion that it's bad comes from the feeling of existential dread it imprints in your subconscious due to the strange melancholic music and background noises, and due to the stress inducing time mechanics in the game. Kinda like Zelda Majora's Mask... it just felt oppressive. The difference being that Zelda had this whimsical feel to it which made it easier to keep playing, whereas 13-3 was all melancholy all the time.

i really enjoyed this video and your take on the game. I always have enjoyed FF13, though it's far from my favorite. I recently replayed it after a long time on PC and have to say it still looks and plays really well. If anything, it's the inconsistent story telling and pacing that stops it being an otherwise very good FF game. In any case, looking forward to seeing more of your videos so I subscribed to your channel 😀
I tried liking FF13. I bought the entire series on Steam as it was on sale but when I tried the hybrid real-time/turn based combat I couldn't enjoy it. Even if the universe seemed cool the gameplay killed it for me. I don't have full freedom of real time action or the full freedom to wait and carefully make decisions in turn based games. It's like the worst mix of both worlds
To each their own. I found the speed of it was at the right spot for me to plan commands (when the game actually needed you to do more than hit x to win).

Chapter 1-9 A long hall way? We are running away from enemy. Can't talk to npc? We are the enemy of cocoon. Linear map? Lightning tried to charge into sanctum in the first place. They might turn into cie'th due to their l'cie mark. Chapter 10 They gave up, instead fighting barthendelus they go to hunt longui.
FF XIII-2 is my least favourite. Time travel is easy to get confused with, the mood in general is depressing and brooding. Especially at A Dying World. FF XIII is my favourite. Lightning Returns, I like it, but not as much as FF XIII. Too distracted by the more revealing clothes on Lightning. Whether for good or for bad.
Nick Ando Yeah.. her dying :( But yay she was brought back to life at the ending of LR :D It's a shame I have to read what happen immediately after LR from texts on FF wikia instead of playing it out. I believe they are told through books/novels, but sadly I'm unsure how to purchase it. Anyway, I just completed FFVII just in time for remake and honestly I understand FFXIII more than VII. Oh well, gotta watch a complete walkthrough of it, read between the lines and understand everything properly
Every time I watch a video of yours, your music selection drives me insane. Because I played so many jrpgs that I cant remember which song came from what. So I wrack my brain the whole video trying to remember.
I really like FFXIII now. I “hated” it back in 2010 but honestly it was a lot of peer pressure too. XIII-2 is one of my favorite FFs and LR is pretty decent too. If you can’t understand the story....git gud. Maybe it’s because I’ve lowered my expectations down a large margin since I knew what to expect, but I like those games now. Finished the trilogy about a year and a half ago lol.
I think that in itself explains how bad quality the game is as a stand alone. The fact is, the game itself is a bad *game* for the series. Considering the quality of the game itself is just not up to any predecessor. That doesn't mean it isn't good or enjoyable to play in itself. It's just subpar overall.
@DeadMemes NeedToStayDead The game low rating because as an entry to the series... it's subpar, and therefore bad as far as title name names go. But the game itself isn't unenjoyable. It's not unplayable. It's just not AS enjoyable as the 1-12. It's a quality difference.
@@Coreisus Bingo. The expectation of it being a Square Enix FF game was too high of a standard compared to the product that was released. But Square also is worried about release dates more than letting their directors send out complete games..because they realized how much cash they can pull from dlc. Because they have 15 main series titles worth of casting to dlc outfits and skills over from. Like every protagonist male..SOMEONE will buy a cloud dlc outfit and weapon for. Or Yuna for females. so the company doesnt care about quality. (Look at how they accepted 15s fate.)
"so yeah it's a lovely duvvy ending" I mean... What I took from the ending is that Fang and Vanille are CONCIOUSLY frozen in Crystal for all eternity in the middle of Cocoon....... That's essentially just hell.
I actually enjoyed 13. Graphics were gorgeous and the battle and leveling system was great. My only gripes are that the characters are a bit bland and it takes forever to get anywhere but over all it was a decent game to me
not to defend the characters, but... they're as "bland" as any group of random people you'd pick from the street (should you be a falcie and wanted to brand some randos to do your bidding)... makes sense, given the story
"COPY PASTED RESPONSE" Lightning gets edgy and dark like Cloud and Squall. I really don't think the characters were a bad part of this game.
As a huge Final Fantasy fan who had played all the mainline FF games available in the west before 13 came out I frickin loved 13. I never understood all the hate for the game. Final fantasy games have always been about telling a story (aside from maybe the first) and that's pretty much ALL 13 does. Linearity be damned, if you don't want a story focused game, don't play Final Fantasy.
What do you mean ace attorney doesnt get views? I demand a full review of every ace attorney game right this instance! And a persona-5-review-like complete cut afterwards!!!
Currently playing through this game while on vacation (about 15 hours in around chapter 7) and I honestly LOVE this game! I was ready to absolutely HATE it due to the internets opinion, but wow I enjoy the paradigm shifting in the combat, I actually like the characters a lot, all of them. Snow is just a man in love and wants to help people and I really don't get the hate for him. Hope is actually coming around to being a stronger character where I'm at, and Vaneille is just an optimist!
I understand peer pressure when it comes to stuff like smoking and drinking, but being pressured into disliking a game - how weak and pathetic is that?
b-but she's absent from most of XIII and LR (Lumina doesn't count)... and I don't really like her outfit in XIII-2 (can I have her XIII look? It's in the game, like, at the begining before she get... you know whom... cough KUPO! cough >.> kill it with fire... at least I can toss the little bugger around, lol)
Arin Jäger you’re right, she is absent from games 1 and 3 bc they use her as a PLOT DEVICE, which is why 13-2 is the better one imo (I also like both her XIII and XIII-2 outfits. They’re nice). Serah deserves more than being a plot device. Her character is so engaging and she’s way more relatable than Lightning is. Yet despite her absence from games 1 and 3, she’s still the best character IMO.
@@sortafriendly2549 it's a bit of shame that you almost never see them work together, Light (or should I say Claire) and Serah... Not to hate on Noel or anything, he's cool and got a reason to be part of the story (through Juel and Caius), but... Imagine, if the Farron sisters fought side by side... kind of a hybrid game between XIII-2 and LR >:D (crazy, I know!) I can't get over the... "leg warmers" of hers, lol... like, the rest of the outfit is great, except the legs... it'd work with little tweak, tho' (either have it like stockings, that you can't see the "naked skin" of her lover leg, like, have it continue into the shoe, right? OR! have it continue UP her thighs as full leggings, then the lower part can be as it is... but the "legwarmer" thing just looks weird... I know I can change the outfit... I only got unlocked the "Style and Steel" outfit, which I like even less than the default one, lol)... Her design in XIII is just too good >.> (but I understand why they changed her) but yeah, they kinda switch the roles, don't they? Serah is basically a "mc guffin" in XIII and LR, while lightning is a plot device in XIII-2... but I'd really like to see them together >.>
@@blackchase6732 you're not supposed to know that -_- (I mean, I knew that, just sayin', you're not supposed to know who she is, you're supposed to think that she's Serah, because she looks like Serah more so than she does like Lightning - Serah being the younger sister... heck, even Hope got deaged, so, why not Serah)
It's really interesting to see your opinions going backwards into the franchise, especially since I went through the normal direction (yes, I played 1, 2 and some other abominations first). Looking forward to the XII-2 review.
FF13 was the first final fantasy game i ever played (It’s the game that got me to buy a ps3) so the game & its characters will always have a special place in my heart. Now that I’ve played more FF games i can see why it’s not everyone’s favorite, but I still love it (also i used to think Lightning was super cool & i wanted to be just like her)
I think you give this a fair review. For me, I enjoyed the story a lot, didn't enjoy the battle system as much as other FF titles but not to the point where I would really complain about it, liked the characters except Snow and Vanille (I mean, I found Hope annoying, but as you said, him acting that way would be normal and I like good writing) but the 1 thing that in a way ruined my experience with the game was how for most of the second quarter of the game, you are given control of the characters, spend 20 seconds to walk a few steps, cut-scene... rinse repeat for about 5 hours, Mabey with a few normal battles scattered in here and there. If I just had a 1 hr cutscene for this whole section, I would have enjoyed the game so much more. Instead, I was constantly frustrated with ok, I'm back in control, what we gonna do... nothing, walk and more cutscene.
One thing few people mention is the connection between the worldspace and the plot. At the start, all you get are those narrow hallways and have to change which characters are doing what. Then when you get to pulse the possibility of defying fate expands the world itself and you get the ability to control exactly who you play as, but since they're still trapped by their focus it steadily returns to tight walls. Only until you beat the game do all people have the choice to live in a free and open world. Nothing exemplifies this than the sequel with multiple endings and very choice based story. Of course, the reason I love the game is because I adore the characters. Sahz and Snow are my least favorite but still good. Fang and Lightning are OTP! All the chara have a reason the act the way they do. It just happens that the way the plot unfolds can lead to understanding errors that I don't mind personally. FF 13 will be top 10 FF for a long while.
I was at first under the impression that FF13 was really bad. After watching Spoony's review of it, I finally gave the game a try out of morbid curiosity. I found myself pleasantly surprised. It wasn't as bad as he or most people said, the linear parts were at least good eye candy, and the world eventually opened up to be a good RPG experience for me with me leveling people up the way I wanted to. By the time I beat it, I had a fun time. 8.5 out of 10. The story gets messy now and then, and same can be said of the gameplay, but for the most part, it's a solid game that's fun to look at and experience. And yes, the plot holes are filled up if you paid attention when it came to the story.
I'm a long-term fan of the franchise myself...And I liked 13 almost immediately on playing it. The gameplay isn't my favorite, mostly due to the early game being fairly boring compared to later on...But the setting and Lightning herself drew me in and kept me going. I wanted to know more about Gran Pulse and Cocoon..and as a fairly big lorehound of the series, your summary tripped all my alarm bells! So much glossing over and confused elements =P I've always had a fairly unpopular opinion of the FF games...13 and 8 are my favorites, and they're generally not well-regarded by "real" fans, often for arbitrary reasons or ones that are just plain incorrect. I'd explain what I mean here, but that would make my comment incredibly long! Oh, and another person who likes Tales of Berseria? A man of taste, you are! Vel and Berseria are my favorites in the Tales franchise! It just beats out Vesperia, a fantastic game in its own right, because of the opening and setting. I hope that, if my darkest dreams come true and the Elder Gods give me a Tales and FF crossover, I will eventually see Light and Vel be snippy and gorgeous together. A woman can dream.
Ok two things 1. When get around to playing FF 12, play it on the SWITCH! The reason why is because the switch version has some features that are NOT on any other versions, and some of those features will save you from some hell (idk if pc can mod them in or not, they might). 2. You Ace Attorney videos get no views? I reamber their was one with a TON of views (that I'm assuming you privated (and if I reamber correctly it was on of your videos) cause I can't find it anymore, which is a shame cause I really liked it) blasting capcom (I can't reamber the specifics of it, something about criticism towards capcom for not understanding it's fans I think because of a meme?) and your Ace Attorney fandom video got quite a lot of veiws. Come on dude have some more confidents with Ace attorney, don't let lack of veiws discourage you.
9:26 I guess this is really your first final fantatsy if you didn`t know summons were in this game since the third title in 1990 (at least six years before the first persona game).
I found myself falling asleep on this title. You know I still ask folks how they still feel about it. Some have changed their mind and others myself included liked sazh and to quote one player, " Rest could get hit by a meteor and I wouldn't care."
I actually enjoy this game. There is one or two sections I like less than others because I WISH the characters had protect! But I've played it through multiple times and I have fun seeing what unconventional way to use a character. Who would have thought that Hope could make a decent commando because of the Ruin/Ruinga spell?
Its weird to say that my first main Final Fantasy game was Final Fantasy VIII even though my first Final Fantasy game was Final Fantasy Tactics for the Game Boy Advance. So even though people say its bad and all, it has a special place in my heart, and can we just agree that Lightning is such a hottie?
Maybe because FF13 was my first final fantasy. But I really loved this game, and I honestly resonated with Lightning because her drive was to save her sister. To me the world was really beautiful, the soundtrack was amazing, and the mechanic was pretty easy to learn.

It's crazy how you were exactly right about Vanille's voice. I almost feel like you lowkey looked it up, but yeah she (the VA) was told to match that Japanese mannerisms, ie the awkward sounds.
EEEEEEEEH
I liked her voice... I've been a long term anime watcher so I have a resistance I guess.
Vanille's voice isn't as hard to listen to as say... Genis in Symphonia. Or... alright, I'm struggling to think of many examples of bad voices that aren't parody like star ocean or shadow hearts. I think Vanille has some nice lines and has a pleasant voice to listen to. The va gave her a charming accent and the added noises aren't so off putting that she deserves the amount of hate she gets.

whos the enemy of cocoon?
Idk who sucked more: Hope or Snow
*WHY DO YOU WANT TO HELP A L,CIE?*
Personally I did love Lightning as a protagonist... I mean after having Tidus and Vaan in the previous games it was a welcome change to have a protagonist that was a bit more "tough".
I would say Vaan and Lightning aren't even really the protagonists. Until the sequels, anyway
Pretty much every protagonist besides those two was a generic anime tough guy. Lightning isn't exactly unique in that regard besides her tits I guess.
A. Cooper Kinda ironic that you mention "generic anime tough guy" when Tidus and Vaan are generic anime upbeat guy.
Well IM just want ff protagonist more like tidus than cloud. Or maybe Zidane, tidus character is pretty damn good for ff world building
Agreed Tidus and Vaan were terrible. I have Vaan as my worst character in franchise history.
This was actually my first final fantasy game and I really enjoyed both the story, aesthetics and gameplay. The criticism this game receives is valid and I see how it rubs a lot of people (especially FF fans) the wrong way. Oh hey it's "that type of video that talks about a game I've never played before but I still stick till the end"
My favorite!
Fun fact: Final Fantasy 13-2 exists because they had enough cut content to make an entire game out of it. So that's exactly what they did.
hey pal thats cool whos ur fav char mine is lightning
@@christianboustani8284 The story itself is weird because how everyone was just cool with their Cocoon being turned to crystal but at least they try to make sense of XIII-1's story with Etro interfering with human affairs, which fucks with the timeline.
In one of their artworks there were fal'Cie Diablos, Ramuh, Leviathan(looked interesting with several dancers in its body).
@Help Me idk maybe opinions.😆
Those multiple endings are good fun unlocking
Lightning returns is pretty good too, the combat was pretty tight, one of my favourite things is that Bosses ARE NOT IMMUNE TO STATUS AILMENTS, THE THINGS YOU WANT TO AILMENT THE MOST!

How is this a hot take if the game is like a decade old?
I found it more interesting from Pulse onward. huh

Excuse me characters not likable yeah right ( snow sucks)
Xiii wasn't bad really, the Paradigm and stagger system were really fun especially in late game. Hell the stagger system in it's entirety is completely in FFVIIR. That really speaks to how well it worked.
I take FF 13 combat/leveling system over FF 8 grind for magic every day.
I remember unlocking the unparalleled moves late game and having so much fun raising all hell with Lightning's Army of One and Fang's Highwind haha 😂
That ALMOST makes me want to play VII Remake lol
The graphics and the OST were the things I liked about ff13. Everything else not so much lol
Honestly, the ost is kinda weak too for a final fantasy game. Soooooo many of the tracks are remixes/rearrangements of either Serah’s theme or lightnings theme. There are a few good tracks though
Which means nothing in the long run, every major FF installment has had standout graphics for the time they were released and strong ost.

I don't know how it was so easy for you unless you followed a guide or someone told you how busted Relentless Assault was
@Cyberdemon Mike That's not a "grinding" system though. It's a cap. You didn't have to be capped to end a chapter.
Sry too much text to read all this but, I agree this is one of the best casts in the franchise if not #1.
@@JayDee-vq5rf you're a fucking idiot
@Cyberdemon Mike Yes like you have better tastes.
Thank you for saying exactly what I feel about this game
xiii was really fun and one of my favorites.

@raihan abmny ok

When you get to final fantasy 7 I hope you realize the parallels of these two games openings.
They really tried to make a other ff7 big hit (look at past interviews)
Lightning the character is based off Cloud, her look, her history (soldier), her 'ass hole' personality.
They tried to recreate the magic of 7 but it became a bit to convulted too quick. Their designs echo the ff7 cast of being Street wear
Also to add the combat of active time bar is similar to final fantasy 7 just with the added more moves options
So what your telling me is the FF fanbase has a fetish for a certain type of protagonist? The Cloud, Squall, and Lightning type? Intresting..

I really don't think the characters were a bad part of this game.
Great video as always! I love watching these reviews a lot
And I’d honestly love to see more Ace Attorney content from you though :(
As a huge Final Fantasy fan who had played all the mainline FF games available in the west before 13 came out I frickin loved 13.
Lightning is cool waifu, i love it
Dont judge me!!!
The most memorable thing is the music at Rivera towers and chapter 10. And those damn turtles.
I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!
I'm reallllllly excited for your review on XIII-2 it was my first and only FF game I've ever played and still love it to this day. Love ya mate
And then there’s me, enjoying the trilogy bc of Serah. She’s the best character tbh - Serah and Noel are the best oops
b-but she's absent from most of XIII and LR (Lumina doesn't count)... and I don't really like her outfit in XIII-2 (can I have her XIII look?
Imagine, if the Farron sisters fought side by side... kind of a hybrid game between XIII-2 and LR >:D (crazy, I know!)
I can't get over the... Her design in XIII is just too good >.> (but I understand why they changed her)
but yeah, they kinda switch the roles, don't they? Serah is basically a "mc guffin" in XIII and LR, while lightning is a plot device in XIII-2... but I'd really like to see them together >.>
@@ArinJager1 lumina is lightning
This game was amazing, the story was so engaging. Honestly loved it
One thing few people mention is the connection between the worldspace and the plot.
Cracked up when she smacked Snow a second time xD
Honestly I liked the game but it's difficulty spikes were bs though
I remember liking this game but I add it it’s because I have a soft spot for the series, I loved the music, and the combat and the graphics.
Final Fantasy 13 is by far my favourite story of the entire franchise.
So much glossing over and confused elements =P
I've always had a fairly unpopular opinion of the FF games...13 and 8 are my favorites, and they're generally not well-regarded by "real" fans, often for arbitrary reasons or ones that are just plain incorrect.
Ok two things
Come on dude have some more confidents with Ace attorney, don't let lack of veiws discourage you.
to chime in on the FF12 features, yes they are missing from the vanilla game but I can confirm they can be modded back in.
Haven't played the game but will be doing a ff marathon soon, so I will eventually.
9:26 I guess this is really your first final fantatsy if you didn`t know summons were in this game since the third title in 1990 (at least six years before the first persona game).
So glad to be back watching RamZaes content after trying my best to avoid Danganronpa spoilers.
I found myself falling asleep on this title. You know I still ask folks how they still feel about it.
Some have changed their mind and others myself included liked sazh and to quote one player, " Rest could get hit by a meteor and I wouldn't care."
Ricardo Belmont because you are boring not the game
I actually enjoy this game. There is one or two sections I like less than others because I WISH the characters had protect! But I've played it through multiple times and I have fun seeing what unconventional way to use a character. Who would have thought that Hope could make a decent commando because of the Ruin/Ruinga spell?
0:08 The things people do to keep their edginess
XD
What a beautiful face you have. So full of charm and charisma, so inviting and friendly.
15 was my first too, i guess we're counting backwards
Maybe because FF13 was my first final fantasy. But I really loved this game, and I honestly resonated with Lightning because her drive was to save her sister. To me the world was really beautiful, the soundtrack was amazing, and the mechanic was pretty easy to learn.
Yea light was very relatable. Hell they all are in one way or another
You can say what you want about FF13 but you have to admit that the battletheme is badass and amazing!
“The Final Fantasy Game People Love to Hate”
Me: Now THAT is comedy!
