Gas or hybrid for a handful of reasons but as a second or third city car they’re amazing. To many horror stories about how these E cars become junk before even paid off due to the expense with battery failure. We’re very close, maybe in another 5-10 years but as of today with the high MSRPs and limits I’ll stay gas. FOR NOW…… 😉👍🏻

Not continuing to improve on & produce the Element, providing hybrid & EV versions was a big oversight by Honda. Hopefully they’ll correct this and make the price more inclusive than the vehicle focused on in the vid. 🖖✌️
@StephenAldaco Yeah, this is more akin to the Scion xB than the element. Could find everything flat and fit a full-size air mattress in a first-gen. But nowhere near the height of the element. If get a pilot before this any day.
Wow! I have an original 2009 Honda element, going on 190000 miles. I just purchased a 2024 honda hrv sport but kept my element because i know my element will outlast my new one. YES, i agree, best car ever made. I had a cop stop me to give me his card , in case i wanted to sell my car. I love my element!
Over the years, I've owned a dozen Honda vehicles, including several CR-Vs. I love their simplicity and reliability. Honda could produce a new Element based on the current CR-V hybrid fairly easily and without a lot of incremental cost. I think they're missing a huge opportunity to cash in on the Element's cachet. If such a vehicle were released, I m-i-g-h-t even consider upgrading my '05 EX!
I could not agree more! Whoever is in charge at Honda, is missing the boat entirely by not bringing back the Honda Element! One of the best cars I've had and mine is a 2011.
The lack of vertical space is the worst bit. My Chevy Traverse seats can all lay flat but the lack of headspace makes my 05 Element my preferred camping car.
@@StephenAldaco Correct, boxy is in and people are looking for an affordable, reliable car. Not everyone can go buy a Lexus or Bronco but an Element would be in a decent price point.

Not a fan of EV’s if you been following Ford they stopped production of the F150 Electric and have reduced pricing on the EV Mustang. As for use in off roading the issues that I have is range. I haven’t seen any charging station in off road areas plus battery life is diminished in cold weather. I think they should do a hybrid which would make more sense. In closing I think the Range Rover, Defender looks more like the Element. Would love to see a review of all the boxy suv’s that would be 😎 Thanks
Lousy range if you wanna hit the road and travel a lot, be out in nature etc.. Too much of a hassle to have to be constantly looking for a place to charge it in a city.
No tailgate and no suicide doors, boo! 😢 Can we swivel the seats? Honesty, I am not ready to give up my Honda Element anytime soon. Great videos Stephen.
I always had mixed feelings about the Element's suicide doors. The could be annoying if you had passengers. I didn't mind the front seat belts being attached to rear doors on the older models since it still allowed for the height adjustment.
dude... it's like 4 feet tall. Starts at 45k (what, it's cheap relative to their other 80k suv?)... runs on batteries that make it a terrible choice for cold and even slightly remote environments. Sorry, I like your channel, but this is straight up silly.
No suicide doors, no tailgate, back seats aren't REMOVABLE. Does it have Elements rubber floors or carpet? A Hybrid would be excellent but full EV? Not yet. The tech and US infrastructure isn't there yet. I'm not seeing an Element, it's boxy, yes, but that isn't enough to replace my Element.
It looks alright, however the main problem i have with my current vehicle, the xtrail, which this new one also has is that the wheel wells are on the inside of the car. Youll notice with the other boxy vehincles they still kept them on the outside. Its something that makes it a little more difficult when you want to fit it out. I have a 4 cube storage bit in my car only because I had to make it fit between the front seat and wheel well. I wanted my cubes to be more like Rosas but couldnt. Also, no suicde doors is a bummer. They still make suicide doors on Patrol utes as my sister got one a couple years back. The tailgate is something that id love on my vehicle and so ive been jealous of the Elements with theirs. Overall id say its a nice car and it does have some good things about it 7/10 however its not an element and they still 10/10 for me as theyre my dream car.
I know I hope one day you get your element and join the cult with us haha! After making this video I noticed a lot of trucks have clam shell doors so maybe I was wrong about that. Having small or no wheel wells is a game changer for sure for a build out. Thanks for being here Kat.
I do like the Rivian over the Tesla for sure. But, I'd prefer a hybrid until the charging infrastructure can get figured out or if it can. Trip to Las Vegas took longer sitting at charging stations. Don't like.
Can anyone help me understand the importance of a missing tailgate in R2? Instead they included the pull-out thing, that works like a 'bench/table' etc. But what other use is the R2 really missing without a tailgate?
I had a Toyota 4Runner, brand new. Traded it for a low-mileage, pristine '08 Element SC for three reasons: gas mileage (Honda, much better), turning radius (much tighter) and the rear tailgate. I use my car for a dog training business, and that tailgate is a great place to sit, have lunch, manage equipment, etc. Amazing how much I missed having it in the Toyota! It's a bit of a deal breaker for me as it's just one more Element feature many SUVs lack. Also, the interior space was EXACTLY the same as the much larger and heavier 4Runner.
Love my element but not a fan of electric vehicles of any kind. They just have no place here in the midwest. I've literally seen one Tesla once while dropping off my element to get a new back bumper.
That’s a fair point I am mostly in the city so I don’t notice the range issues as much as other people do. What’s the most popular vehicle out there you think trucks & subarus?
It's too big and it doesn't look pretty. It looks more like a plastic tub in my fridge that's hard to park. It looks carpeted. Big no from this element owner.
The element tailgate was called a clamshell if you didn't know. I think they decided to make the floors flat to sleep on while the battery charges because you are going to have a lot of extra time if you plan on taking it across country and finally I doubt the suicide doors are a safety issue. With no center pillar it requires the body to be extra rigid and that's an extra cost to manufacturing. This Rivian is not a good copy of a Honda Element. It's an electric grocery getter.
Babe and I were looking at these this weekend. Very cool car, I actually like the smaller one that looks like a Gremlin even more though. As far as ALL electric I just can’t do it. They don’t work for true interstate travel effectively and are best as in city only cars IMO. My little sister in Costa Mesa just bought a Tesla two weeks ago and she already agrees it just may not work for all she wants to do. All that being said they’re all amazing prices of modern art and machinery but still to limiting for proper adventuring IMHO.
Yeah I can see that plus having range anxiety does not sound fun at all! The Rivian R3 definitely looks way cool like an old VW golf. I’m sure hopeful that Rivian will find their target demographic and we can keep coming out with cool cars in the future.
love my element but cant wait for the r3s to come out it looks like a classic vw hatch with all the modern amenities. Rivian is the first electric car company to really nail retro futurism
Hey do you have a video that has like just the general best features of the Honda Element??? Like I know the floor is flat but other than that what it like the top five or top 10 features🎉
When they were first made, I couldn’t afford one. Now that I can afford one they’re not made. I would buy one in a heartbeat if they were ever make them again.
Split rear hatches (as in a tailgate design) are problematic for automakers in that they are very difficult to fully seal. Not for only for water but in terms of exhaust fumes. Airflow over the roof creates a lot of turbulence behind an SUV and can acually pull vapors into the rear passenger compartment (it’s also why rear hatch and glass get so dirty). Obviously exhaust isn’t an issue on a EV but old habits die hard.
This is not an element.. this is an suv with stowed seats.. the element was based on a mini van.. the front seats to back seats are not alligned equily. Why even mention the element name?
The no tailgate and being electric are deal breakers for me. The tailgate might just be my favorite feature of the honda element (if I had to pick one) and where I live (rual Wyoming) EVs simply arent viable (due to travel distances, lack or infastructure, and extreme temperature swings). I'm with you that a hybrid would be sweet and I like how the rear seats fold flat.
Thanks for the great car review, Stephen! I like that the Rivian has front folding seats. Not really into all electric though & the 45k price point I think is too steep for the average person especially with high interest rates on auto loans. Wish Honda would make new Elements starting somewhere between 20 to 25k at most. Any word about Honda making new Elements again? Thanks again, Stephen. With Aloha, Matt
No official word from Honda but I would love to see it! The front folding seats is a very nice touch by Rivian I agree. It would be so nice to see a 20k-25k element in the same price range as the ford maverick.
@@StephenAldaco, thank you. I saw an old Subaru Baja the other day. Seems like a decent amount of crossover and the same fans for the Element's and Baja's. Like them both, never had either.
New Elements at 20-25k? Lololol! If you look around , Ive got a guy across town selling an E for just short of 20k. Its an 08 with 142 k miles but he has a roof rack and a ton of camping accessories that come with it. Way overpriced but thats todays market. It out of control. Hell, dealers are asking 10+ for varioys years with less than 200 k mileage and no rust. Im talking 04-11s it nutz! No, a new E will start at, over 30k maybe higher due to demand.
I love the idea of not being dependent on gas and foreign oil but the horrible environmental impact of the lithium mining fields in South America plus lack of charging options for longer ranges makes fully electric vehicles unattractive to me.
Seeing a lot of no’s in the comments. This is THE closest vehicle in terms of cabin feel to the element. If there’s no Element EV. Then the R2 or R3 are where you’re going to want to be.
@@StephenAldaco it’s been the singular driving force in my search for a new vehicle. I had an 05 ele, now I’ve got a 12 and my wife drives a 07. All the new cars just feel like I’m getting in a jet after living with the space the element provides. Rivian’s approach is the closest I’ve found. Smart vehicles and the new entry pricing on the R2-R3 are amazing. Rivians CEO was just on the decoder pod too. I like the moves the company is making.
How insulting, as an original E owner 2006, I bought and still have my E, based on the concept and affordability. Apples and Oranges in comparison with the Honda Element. Long Live the E!!
Nope. Height appears too short to sit upright in back with the seats folded, so that’s an automatic No from me. And the charging infrastructure nationwide isn’t broad enough or maintained well enough for me to go full electric yet. A hybrid Element would be a no brainer, Honda is really leaving money on the table by not designing one.
Great video. IDK How I feel about electric cars yet. I would rather do a hybrid instead but if Honda comes out with there own like this one or a new element style then... 🤔
@StephenAldaco yes I love it. It's everything I needed in my next adventure vanlife car. Under 30k but to be honest if they make a new fj cruiser or a new Honda element I might reconsider. I like the rivian just not fully sold with electric cars yet. If Honda make a new element would you buy it?
I think the new Rivian is Awesome. It's cute I agree it's a Happy looking car. I do worry about it being 100% electric though if you are out and somewhere they don't have hookups. I'd prefer a hybrid.
So, I wonder if or when someone will see if the R1 total lift and tail gate is just as long as the R2. Then just fab the R1 to fit the R2. The new Element it will be. Would I buy it then...... No, I'll stick to my tortoise fast Element knowing I can go to 300 miles on a tank of gas(Ok let's be honest 265-280) fill up and go. R2D2 will need hours to charge. It's cool though give it that!
R2D2 LOL 😆 that is an interesting thought I can just modify the tail gate how I like it. R1s is super cool but too big to be called the new element IMO
Not even close. Doesn't have the height in the rear that an element has, nor is the opening in the rear anywhere near as height, no tailgate, no suicide doors. Seats don't function the same. It's looks more like a typical SUV to me.
I like your content; but I disagree with this comparison. The Rivian R2 is a completely different vehicle from the Element, or an Element inspired resurrection. I drive a Scion XB, 2nd generation, and I am considering selling it and purchasing a used Element; and both the XB and Element are in a completely different price $$ segment from ANY vehicle made by Rivian. Aside from the rectangular inspired general shape, the Rivian R2 and Honda Element are completely different class of vehicles and not comparable.
It's an ev no solar charge on board no hybrid gas electric. Limited range trash ev. For that price you can fully rebuild 2 element exp awd with all the aftermarket mods.
I have an original 2009 honda element. Going on 190000 miles and never had an issue. You cannot compare any new vehicle to the honda element. You want to impress me with a new car. Make the honda element exactly the way honda left off and people will buy it. Anything with too much electronics will not last very long. A few months ago i purchased a new 2024 honda hrv sport BUT kept my honda element because i trust itll last far beyond any car out there. HONDA, make the element again with no electronics or safety features and i will buy one!
I have element 08 very good condition DC area. Will sell soon. It is a one of kind. Music & cars. No likey the new stuff No everything is not going electric. There are still gas vehicles for sale.
Team Gas! Why, first of all I don't think that there's anything practical about solar cars, to long to charge, takes to much electricity to charge and what part is biodegradable? Yes, I love my portable batteries, but these cars aren't going to survive. I think Ford did a better job making a copy cat Element, but it just isn't the same. 🤪
Team Gas, fossil fuels are cleaner and better supported. Lithium batteries are dangerous and not cost effective. Mileage being traveled. Gas and go. Convenience of gas. Electric freezes in the winter can’t run the car.
Nope... It's not an Element! Totally ugly- not a "happy" car. I want a standard Honda Element without all the electronics, bells and whistles! I would not buy a Rivian- no matter the price!😢
Are you team electric or team gas and why?
Team hybrid ;) best of both worlds, great realistic range with ice and electric power.
Not a bad choice 😱
Hybrid, I think the electric tech needs to advance a bit more.
Depends on the purpose. Efficient commuter less than 50 miles, def goes for electric. Everything else Ice is better.

@BoondockBertoOverland Baja is dope btw which island are you on?
My thoughts exactly 🤩
@@StephenAldaco it’s been the singular driving force in my search for a new vehicle. I had an 05 ele, now I’ve got a 12 and my wife drives a 07.
All the new cars just feel like I’m getting in a jet after living with the space the element provides. Rivian’s approach is the closest I’ve found. Smart vehicles and the new entry pricing on the R2-R3 are amazing. Rivians CEO was just on the decoder pod too. I like the moves the company is making.
@lasertreesx I know the jump to Rivian from the element is insane! I hope I get my hands on one soon enough and make a video.
I hope Honda sees these videos and comments and comes to their senses haha!
Great video. IDK How I feel about electric cars yet. I would rather do a hybrid instead but if Honda comes out with there own like this one or a new element style then... 🤔
Thanks bro how’s that Subaru treating you that’s what you ended up with right?
@StephenAldaco yes I love it. It's everything I needed in my next adventure vanlife car. Under 30k but to be honest if they make a new fj cruiser or a new Honda element I might reconsider. I like the rivian just not fully sold with electric cars yet. If Honda make a new element would you buy it?
I feel like I would have too and make a bunch of content for the channel haha. Congratulations on the new ride man! FJ is too small for van life imo.
@@StephenAldaco thank you 😊
I've got an 03 EX and love it!
Not even close to Element. Not interested at all. I will never buy electric. I like my clamshell. I like my doors!
I like the clamshell too.
I think the new Rivian is Awesome. It's cute I agree it's a Happy looking car. I do worry about it being 100% electric though if you are out and somewhere they don't have hookups. I'd prefer a hybrid.
Nah, no thank you!
Fair enough!
@@StephenAldaconot that it’s
Not cool
I
Just don’t see it as a Honda Element comparison.
This is awesome!
I agree! Give me that tail gate!
@@StephenAldaco you around JR and Miguel oh I'm sure a liftgate could be modified lol
I like the ev element. Hopefully I'll own both at the same time!
Not even close. Doesn't have the height in the rear that an element has, nor is the opening in the rear anywhere near as height, no tailgate, no suicide doors. Seats don't function the same. It's looks more like a typical SUV to me.
Yes the bigger the rear opening, the better. 😮
Don't care for an electric but would consider a hybrid.
Hybrids are cool.
264,000 on my second Element. Won't get rid of it😊
Doesn't look it would be possible to stand up in it, at all. I can stand in my E
You can stand in your e that’s wild!
@@StephenAldaco I'm sure lots of people can.
I have owned 2 this ain't it
I have an original 2009 honda element.
Safety features are important.
Coming from someone who recently survived a bad car crash.
Very nice
I agree I guess I should mention I also want clamshell doors too haha
BLASPHEMER!
😫🙌
I have element 08 very good condition DC area. Will sell soon.
It is a one of kind.
Music & cars. No likey the new stuff
No everything is not going electric.
Are you talking about the ford bronco? I feel like some of these electric cars can charge in 30 mins guess it depends on your driving habits 🤔
@StephenAldaco yes, the Ford Bronco. I like the outside look of it, but I haven't seen the inside.
No tailgate! No way
I AGREE!!!
The new Honda Element by Rivian sounds intriguing! We sent you an email, check it out.
I will never own an all electric vehicle. We dont have enough power for all cars to be electric. Their also to expensive to buy and repair.
That in no way looks like an E🤔
Team Gas, fossil fuels are cleaner and better supported. Lithium batteries are dangerous and not cost effective. Mileage being traveled. Gas and go. Convenience of gas. Electric freezes in the winter can’t run the car.
These things are terrible.
The element is a kind of ridiculous car…boxy, horrible gas mileage, and a little ugly. Electric is the future.
Nope... It's not an Element! Totally ugly- not a "happy" car. I want a standard Honda Element without all the electronics, bells and whistles! I would not buy a Rivian- no matter the price!😢
Not For Me Passing
Ugh electric cars. 5-speed Element FTW
Nah! No Go.
Not a honda element!
Yeah. No.
