A Bronco came over the airfield at Vinh Long in 1969 and put on quite an airshow for our Cobra pilots. Yes, the cargo pod could carry a couple paratroopers and they could jump from that position easily. I have photos of them at Vung Tau, where some operated out of the air strip there. The black lines on top of the wings are where it is safe to walk for mechanics.
and you haven't done the fun stuff. its an extremely capable rough field STOL aircraft. i believe they are spec'd to be able to go over a 4 inch curb at rotate speeds. the manufacturer's testing videos look brutal. using reverse on the propellers is going to be a major item for short landings too. they were operating these off of carriers without issue. the issues you were seeing with it not liking low speeds i believe was a chronic issue. the engines aren't the most powerful for a STOL aircraft. to the point were losing an engine on take off is quite dangerous. they were intended for operating with little to no ground support. one person stated they had three ways to start them; internal battery. there is a standard slave receptacle to connect it to another bronco or other military vehicle or power source with enough amps. or one pilot said if they really had to, they would put another bronco in front and use the prop-wash to spin an engine. that black strip on the top of the aircraft is likely a non-skid for walking along the top for fueling and other service items. they are still common on navy and marine corps aircraft at least. it probably also more clearly marks the area of the wing that can be walked on. also, they were intended to be serviced with minimal tools, so a ladder to work up there isn't a given. the back could hold 4-6 persons, or a couple of stretchers. they could remove the rear door for air drops. and the height of the cargo floor and the horizontal stabilizer are set so a standard military truck can back into the plane to transfer cargo directly.
Time mark 3:30. …. Hi again! I just wrote you a comment about offering ATC in your sim…. Just a little detail at 3:30…. , (Lol) The attitude indicators run off vacuum pump pressure, not electric. They have an internal gyro that spins up to speed once vacuum pressure is supplied. Some aircraft are equipped with a small, secondary, (backup) attitude indicator which runs off electricity, 😉 On twin engine aircraft, you’ll see the attitude indicator come alive slowly, after you start the engine with the pump on it. That varies between aircraft, but it’s the ‘critical’ engine. BTW, You do a great job on these videos, I’m still going through some.
I think this is an amazing addition for the sim at no cost. Although to be fair I think the developer deserves a coffee for staying up late at nights doing this!!
My last jump was out of this bird. Pilot pulled about 60 degrees nose up and, being the last jumper in, simply unhooked the seat belt strap and all of us (I think 5) "fell" out the back. (We loaded by sitting down facing the back of the plane and slid our way back toward the front of the plane). The last one to load (me) had their feet dangling in the wind. Great jump.
@@samuelhartzog7209 I ran a radio MUX shot on the hill between mainside and the airfield at Camp Pendleton. I watched a lot of air traffic from that vantage point. Harriers looked like some scifi movie hovering around back then.
Thanks for this review and demonstration. I have long known about this aircraft and have just recently downloaded this for the sim but hadn't had the chance to take it out for a flight. Great looking aircraft for freeware.
I love the expression “box of frogs” 😂. Never heard that before. This plane looks awesome, I tried downloading it yesterday and it didn’t work, which was obviously my fault. Gonna try again today. Thanks for another great video
Thank-you Jonathan for the demonstration and quick review of the free OV-10 for MSFS. For it being freeware, I am most impressed! I think it is the ideal aircraft for those who enjoy flying fast and for relatively long distances (ferry range) without having to go into intricate detail for learning about the aircraft. I believe the “steam engine” sound you heard when starting the starboard engine was the ignitor(s) firing. I have heard that noise before on older turboprop engines. However, I could be wrong. I was wondering it there was a yaw dampener included that would eliminate the “box of frogs” you experienced? The most distinctive and true to life feature of this aircraft was the absence of any strobing effect (some call the term “wagon wheeling”) on the propellers, which has been associated with other propeller driven aircraft in reviews I’ve watched. For in real life, I have never witnessed it. Again sir, thank-you so much for taking the time to bring us this review. If you have the time, I do ask you a favor. Please demonstrate setting up 2 Logitech throttle quadrants in order to control twin engine aircraft engines separately. I have not found any video or written documentation for this purpose, and I have spent a great deal of time trying the “thousand monkey approach” with no success.
This plane is very nice. I hope the visibility of the instruments would come better, they are hard to read from the normal position, the lighting dos it not be better. I love the visibility for exploring. And thx for all your great videos
Hi Jonathan, as you have your ear much closer to all things MS 2020 than I do, if you ever get a squeak of someone developing my favourite aircraft of all time, in P3D anyway, the Aero Commander 500 please put it on your channel, I am probably waiting in vain but you never know👍.
How did you find the FPS could’ve been just my situation at the time I was flying it, but my FPS dropped to under 20. I jumped into the Comanche and why, and behold everything was normal back up in the 60 FPS mark. Same scenery, same everything. Love the aircraft though.
@@jonbeckett Developer's answer: "By adding fuel in the external tank before the flight or at a fueling station. If you add more than a certain amount, wing tanks will appear as well. To use the external fuel, set the external fuel switch to ext. If fuel runs out, the tanks will stay. You can dump them by pulling yellow quick release or pushing the yellow release all button. To test you can also use ctrl+F to completely fill up the airplane. The plane will be really heavy than. I might change this system in the future. Enjoy!"

I love flying this plane, The amount of vision out of the cockpit is awesome.
OV-10s are still in service with CALFIRE in California as chase planes, can’t wait to see it in the calfire livery
Sublime in VR, lovely big glasshouse of a canopy 😊
While in the Marines I saw a Bronco fly over, pull up and out the back drop 4 marines on static lines. It was very cool. Thanks for the low pass.

I’m in love with it so far and it’s FREEWARE. Certainly impressive. You’ll catch me flying it online for those short field hops for sure!
The book "A Lonely Kind of War" features this aircraft. Really excellent book about a FAC in Vietnam.

Crazy that this is free!
beautiful aircraft and scenery....
Yay - my fave island hopping plane
I hope you try one in DCS, there is a free Bronco from Split-Air. Very well done and fun to do some light CAS.
I remember them as artillery spotters (and markers with WP rockets) in Viet Nam.

I woiuld get this if there was a civillian livery. The Boeing Fire livery looks good.
Remember, someone in the US armed forces looked at this and said "yes, looks like a war plane to me"

Not had that issue. I know recording through OBS loses frames. The sim was fine though.
The windows in the backseats open as well
Got this so like it good fun aircraft to fly
15:19 black strip atop wings?. Anti-skid traction walking strip perhaps??
Ahah!, just read @i.r.wayright1457 's comment 🙂
Likely because I think I could see 4 overwing refuel caps. . Another brilliant review thanks
Reverse setting of mouse wheel is the default on Apple computers. That may explain it
I would love to see the OV-1 MoHawk for MSFS if someone has the skills to develop it.
Nicel done.
i downloaded it an put in community foldr but doesn't show up
You probably have a folder in a folder.
Nice
I wish xbox would add some of these choice freeware addons
Oh, don't see it for Xbox...bummer, looks fun.
Usually takes a few days before on xbox so still a chance
How to get the drop tanks to appear?
I have no idea :)

where can I download this model?
Flightsim.to
It would have been go to do all that with the checklist rather than just describing it.
Cool plane, but the flight dynamics are pretty bad. Reverse thrust on landing makes the plane do a wheelie.
Nice and useful video. You got a new SUB! I find the Bronco easy to fly. Watch my video with the Bronco at Sea Plane Atlantis. I can't put links...
Was going to make the first comment, but decided not to 😁
