- Опубликовано: 2 мар 2022
- In this video I finally explain the difference between wide-band and narrow-band as it relates to GMRS radios. I explain what wideband is, what narrowband is, if wideband and narrowband are compatible, and what issues arise when talking on a narrowband radio to a wideband radio.

Hi, I've got involved with portable radios as the war in Ukraine started, wanted to be prepared as I live 40 Km away from the border with UA.
Trying to make sense of it all, I stumbled on this channel and man, IT IS AWESOME.
FUN, INTELLIGENT, SARCASTIC all in one show? Keep it up!
Greetings from Romania!
@OlimpiuCristianMihai Hello from La Mesa, California, USA! I have been a "happy ham" since 2006 and just started expanding my understanding of GMRS last year. Hope all is well for you. 🙏🤲🕊🤗

OMG FINALLY A NARROWBAND AND WIDEBAND VIDEO!!!!!
Loving the hand gestures in this one....
Chris, thanks for filling my earholes with this information. Maybe you can get Randy to explain the difference between 223 and 5.56 so we can meet a whole new group of youtube "experts". Hail Zenu..
The difference between 223 and 5.56 is 217.44.
@@bratt-38128 actually higher pressure in the 5.56mm. Ret, SSG, U.S. Army. Most Ar’s built today are chambered for both.
I always hear "Nither is a 45 so they don't count..
The difference could be wylde...

Just kidding D Phillips.
Thank you Chris! You’re the GMRS equivalent of Tim Allen’s neighbor Wilson in Home Improvement.
your sense of humor is top notch. i could watch your channel just for it alone.
As a general class ticket holder, I feel I must point out...
This was a really good video. I'm a radio lover first and a ham second. I'm enjoying your content. Keep it up!
I became an F.C.C. General Class "happy ham" so I could sit in the back seat and have a flag mounted on my right front bumper .. ha, ha.😂🤣🤠
Thank you for your time Chris, the channel wouldn’t be what it is without you.
Well without him it wouldn't be a channel at all
OMG... The video of all videos has finally been created. Bored? Never. Informed and entertained? Definitely!
Although you told us that Narrowband ->Narrowband sounds good, I would have preferred to hear a demonstration from Chris to you so that we could compare Narrowband->Narrowband as well as Wideband->Wideband for ourselves.
My ocular Fluid Sacks are Very Satisfied with the visual Demonstration and My Ear holes Found this video very informative and Entertaining Randy @NotaRubicon Productions
Thanks for the narrow & wide band video. It's very helpful to have the information presented with real world application. And another thank you to Chris who's help'n us 'non-experts' learn basic radio concepts!
I crave more 1/10 of one second verbiage inserts!!! I literally love it...
73's and keep those sad hams sad!!!
WRDU235!
Great demonstration and great explanations. I appreciate you explaining in a easy and fun a language that newbies clearly understand. You made it easy for me to decide adding a GMRS radio to my Jeep is right. Much thanks.
Actually pretty awesome. I went to a very detailed page explaining it all. I was under the impression wide band would clip more because it would be at the limits of the band width. While the narrow band would be more clear as it stayed within the bands and would offer less clipping and static. Then you made the video. Boom! Thank you Sir!
I came here while researching the differences of the wide and narrow band channel settings on my GMRS radio. I think I have a better understanding of what it is now, so thank you!
That was the most awesome explanation of this subject I have EVER heard. Keep up the good work!
Enlightened with information while being entertained. Now have a much better understanding. Never bored. Keep your great vids coming!
Super informative. I really enjoy these demo type videos with your test equipment and experiments.
Thank you so much sir. Love watching your channel…informative and entertaining. Because of you…I’ll be getting my GMRS license. More power to you…and thank you Chris.
Thank you for all these videos. Every question that pops in my head you have a video for it seems like. Excellent work
Just subbed! Wanted to get into the radio stuff for awhile as my Dad used to cb, ham. I like your attitude, your work station, and your great t-shirts. Thanks for the info!
Great video! Love your humor and delivery style. Straight to the point, yet tasteful.
Thanks for being the solid foundation of this channel Chris!
old video, but new 5r owner.. thank you for this channel. you have cleared up so much in radio knowledge for me very quickly with no bullshit.
Once again a great presentation. Many thanks to Kris for helping out. You are the man
530 hooked it up ✌🏻
Thank you, Chris, for making all this simple to understand with examples. I've learned more on this channel than all my time studying for another type of radio license. I think I'll stay here a while.
Me too I got the wouxun kg935g and my gmrs license due to these awesome videos
@@DARTHDANSAN I got my GMRS license because of them.
This is my first place to go when I have a question, Excellent Job, Thanks. I have my BTECH GMRS-50V2 and it sounds great, with the antenna on the roof I am picking up people 50 to 60 miles away. Now I am thinking of getting a Ham License and considering a repeater. Keep up the good work.
Good demonstration of how wide band and narrow band Looks on the graph Randy 3:30 @NotaRubicon Productions
I just discovered your channel and your one-frame screen comments are just golden.
You are the reason I began to use GMRS and spend hundreds of dollars on radios, a repeater, and related radio equipment.
Keep it going- GOOD CONTENT--
Many thanks.
Thank you Chris and Randy. This is a very informative and easy understand video!
I was in doubt before about which one to choose, now i get it. Thanks for the info.
I've been waiting my whole life for this video
Very clear, concise, and visualized information, great vid!
Your doing great Cris...I now have GMRS for truck and hand held as well. Thank you for your knowledge...
Thanks for explaining it to normal people. I fail to see why one would willingly use narrowband after this presentation.
Narrow-to-narrow cuts through static brilliantly. If you're only communicating with a small group and never with anybody outside that group, stick to narrow if your radio does both. Wide is the default, but narrow-to-narrow will get through clearer when you're both weak to each other.
@@W2IRT seems you don't fail to understand and also are able to explain to us, normal people! LOL, this channel is awesome.
Or possibly... while on the trail talking mobile to handheld... FRS is narrow and if using a Midland handheld, they operate on narrow as well. ... not sure about other handhelds, the ones I own can be switched.
I was in the Navy and worked on Narrowband and Wideband. I've been waiting for this video.
Really enjoy your style! Weird that there really is a real gene pool really like that. Your channel informative and enjoyable!
Thanks for making this video…….and Chris, THANK YOU! How could we be bored as I a. Still amazed at how your Tetris table is being kept so tidy!! Have a great day everyone!!
As usual you’re are teaching us well I appreciate your time and knowledge
Thank you, Chris. I love your channel!
We all love Chris's channel. Great content, very accurate information and very sultry voice (lol). Nice job team. Adoring fan 1, 69 out.
Nicely done Chris and Randy! The only other decent video I’ve seen on the whole wide band versus narrow band thing likewise used a waterfall display to show the difference between the two. As a practical matter, someone stuck with a narrow band radio could ask the person they’re talking with to back off their mic a little. This would eliminate a lot of that clipping.
Somewhat confusingly, I’ve seen programming packages that express wide band/narrow band in terms of channel spacing, with options like 25k versus 12.5k. In such a case, picking the bigger of the two (25k) is the same as picking wide band.
Keep the videos coming Randy! Great stuff!
That was a good video. You and Chris are a pleasure to watch.
True pleasure to watch, as always.
Excellent and easy to understand. Today, I learned something and could now explain to another.
I've been waiting years for this video! I can finally sleep well tonight
Excellent video Chris. Thank you for showing us how the band differences work.
I would have loved to have heard more of you on the same band, just so you could have more onair time.
I am considering going GMRS because the crap FRS radios we got for RVing between my wife and I have a fars range of about 5ft.
I considered replacing them with a pair of tin cans with string, but this seems a better option.
Love watching your videos. They crack me up.
Thank Chris, great video.
Nice work gentlemen! Love your RUclips channel!!!📡💯🔊👍
Thanks for this video, even though I had to figure this out years ago and not really getting easy to understand answers I wish you had this video out back when I got my GMRS license so I could figure out what the difference was.
Educational and entertaining! Thank you gentlemen!
Great still shot from "2001". Chris is always welcome, like garlic in chili. Don't over-do it, but some is necessary.
Another excellent video as expected. One thing of interest was the repeater you were using on wide band.
Excellent video for understanding the difference between wideband and narrowband.👍🏻
Great, informative video. The most impressive thing I saw was the HT hitting another radio 10 fars away from inside your studio (on simplex).
Dang… I’m 50th. Great Video Sir. Long time coming Wide Band vs Narrow Band finally understood. I also finally figured out what a Far’s is….. 😃
Your manner of presentation is so entertaining that I believe I would watch you read the phone book (if one still exists). Boring? Never!
En una simple explicacion, tu video resolvio mis dudas......Gracias Criss😂 (Broma..Saludos gente de NotaRubicon)😀
Thanks for the video Chris.
Great explanation, THX
Narrow band fit my waist when I was a teenager and wide band fits now.

Thank you for another great informational video! Thank you Chris for being the hidden talent in Randy's video's!
Love the visual aids
Love your reports. 73’s from W7EMW
Great intro!
The waveform view was a good idea. I thought you might show some static graphics (screen captures) for comparison. The sound demonstration (with Chris) was a practical explanation for the non-geeks.
I am a geek (EE) and I found the sound demonstration was the best part.
Thank you so much .i am posting to our group
I am trying to keep the peace
Nice job Chris and Karbach Brewing Rocks
