Your dry blow technique is ahhhmazing!!! I just used it today and now I have the most gorgeous curls ever. And believe me, my hair is wavy... Not curly. Thank you!
I found an xtava verona hairdryer that is compatible with the orchid diffuser. I've ordered both and am excited to try them. Was about to order the hair kit on Xtava.com which was basically a hairdryer+orchid diffuser .... They quickly sold out. Did my research on compatible dryers and decided to try a xtava verona on ebay.
I am so happy I found you!!! My hair texture and density is very similar to yours and finding someone with hair similar to mine has been almost impossible. Thank you 🙏
This is my second time watching this. I am new to this whole hair care regimen and trying to soak up all the techniques and product info. SO MANY PRODUCTS! I'm not sure I understand it all but you are so fun to watch! So professional and witty. I'll be checking out all of your videos. Same hair type...2A, low porosity, "straight" side of head....Thank you!!!
+xn28music I personally love using a lot of different products--it's just fun for me! But you certainly don't have to. The basics for wavy hair (CG style!) boil down to using silicone-free products and preserving moisture in the hair. That's it! You'll want to use a sulfate-free cleanser and conditioner, then to style: a leave in, maybe a cream, curl enhancer, and gel. Thanks for your nice note--I'm glad this could help you. Start by checking out the Curly Girl Method book by Lorraine Massey. It was a huge help for me!
+xn28music PS - I'm actually working on a video about minimalist routines, so that might help as well. Should be out in a couple weeks. I'm not a fast video producer :)
I never knew how to diffuse before! Thank you sooo much for all of your videos. I am new to the CG method, and my hair is just like yours! I’ve binged on your videos and learned a tremendous amount!! Thank you, thank you!!
I love your videos! I got a perm last week and I was feeling totally lost on how to handle things. I feel so much better after watching a couple of your videos. Thank you so much!!!
I'm new to CG method. I'm glad to know about the gel cast. In the past, if I used a new gel, mousse, etc that was crunchy, I wouldn't use it anymore. Now I know that I can use those, but I must break the cast. Thanks for the video! :-)
It’s been a month since I learned how to do this with my hair, of course I don’t take that long cause I’m a guy, and my hair is shorter, but I’m trying to let it grow. Since then I don’t look like a homeless anymore, my hair is always beautiful and looking nice and I’m starting to get compliments for my curls :) thanks again
My hair at the crown of my head is similar to your density, just mine is a touch more frizzy. Your hair looks very fine. I'm still struggling with getting it to look nice at the root. I will keep trying! I appreciate the video.
Your hair is so beautiful and is the closest thing I've found on RUclips to my own hair! I'm going to order this diffuser and hope itll help with some of my problems. I have mid back length damaged, processed hair. I'm wanting to do a big chop, even though some of the damaged hair will still remain, I think it will help a lot.
Did you cut it? I had a similar problem and went from mid back to armpit level hair. Now my waves are thicker and more volume. I'm trying to grow it back out with less heat damage this time.
This is the first video I've seen to cater to MY type of hair. I've been totally mystified as to why sometimes I have good hair days, and sometimes bad. Now I know: I've mostly been doing it all wrong. Hopefully, no more frizz.
LOVE THIS DIFFUSER. I originally had a small one that cane with a conair dryer, but I splurged and got the xtava diffuser and dryer. I was a little skeptical since my hair is pretty short (a little shorter than yours) and the diffuser is so big, but it works AMAZING!!
Thankyou so much for this vedio, my hair is mix of both wavy and curly so my struggles have almost ended after i watched your vedio💝, love you so so much
_Oooh_ so you clip after you diffuse and with your hair almost dry! I'm going to try that today! My hair is *very* similar to yours (I have wavy, fine hair and I have a "lazy" side) and after I scrunch out the crunch, I end up with a poofy mess. :-\ I don't know if I'm using the wrong products or what, but I'm a little over 2 weeks in and I'm still trying to figure it out! Anyway, thanks for so many great, helpful videos! Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!
I've decided to embrace my wavy hair and put the straightener away, but I'm a little nervous now. Your hair looks wonderful but is there a routine where hair can be washed at night before bed? Between getting myself and my baby ready and out the door on time, a 1 hour routine just on hair isn't gonna happen. Love your videos!
Not sure if you ever found what you were looking for, but if you're looking for something to do overnight, you can: 1. Shower and co-wash or using low-poo + conditioner (and leave-in if you need moisture) 2. Scrunch in product(s) 3. Use a clean t-shirt to gently squeeze extra water out of your hair, then either "plop" your hair and tie the T-shirt around your head, or "pineapple" your hair (using a no-indent hair tie to put your hair up on top of your head like an upside-down pineapple) and sleep like that overnight. 4. In the morning, scrunch out the crunch and refresh if necessary She's now got some additional videos on "sleeping in the crunch," "plopping," and air drying so check out the rest of her channel too!
My hair is full on curl. I let it dry while I sleep, and most of the time it turns out fine, and if not I just go half up half down. Hope you find what's right for you :)
Great video, I have just started my curly girl journey and am struggling with sticky roots, I think I had too much product near my roots. As you say, wavy hair is very different to curly hair. I was also terrified of using heat with my diffuser, so it took me about 2 hours to try and dry my hair!!! I have just watched your wash day method and your diffuser method, together with the comb out I will try again next wash day. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated
First, I LOVE your videos! They’ve been a lifesaver since I decided to embrace my natural texture. My hair is slightly curlier than yours, and I’m constantly fighting frizz, but like you I’m willing to accept a little frizz in my life in order to get volume. I’m trying to figure out what the right balance of heat versus cool air when I diffuse. How long do you keep each section of your hair in the diffuser bowl with heat?
Thank you!!! This is a very informative video. I watched your video on cross clipping right before this one, and per your suggestion, watched this. I’m brand new to the Curly Girl method, and I appreciate your cross-clipping demo! I too have hair that’s thin on top, from post-menopausal hair loss. (It’s technically called female androgenic alopecia.) my hair is wavy to curly, not sure yet how much, and medium pixie-length. I came looking for a way to disguise the thinness of my hair on top. I’ll try the cross clipping after diffusing the gel cast for a ways-50% or so?? Your hair is lovely, as are you! 😍😍😍💝
Enjoyed that. You look great 👍🏻 and it was helpful. I’ve let my hair grow and I’m trying to figure it out so I don’t have to work so hard to get it to look ok.
I just found this video as I’m just starting to embrace my natural wavy hair. My hair gets very frizzy and has a lot of damage due to heat and coloring. My question is how do you diffuse your hair with no frizz? Every time I try to diffuse my hair it ends up a frizzy mess and I loose my waves in the chaos. Do you offer one on one help lol, I feel like I need you right next to me to tell me what I’m doing wrong!
Thanks so much for another great video! I stumbled upon your channel (and subscribed immediately after watching the first one!) and you are one of my favorite curly girl mentors, You have such terrific presence on your vids and making everything less daunting for someone like me who is new to CGM means a LOT. It can be ever so overwhelming at first, as you know. It’s been a fun journey so far (only a month in) but I LOVE my 2b 2c results. LOVE my waves & curls now. 👍🏻 Quick question though. I don’t buy products tested on animals so do you think you could make suggestions for those of us who only buy animal testing free products that are as good as those already recommended? I know Deva doesn’t test on animals but I would like to try other products as I try to figure out which ones are best for my hair. Some of the products I’ve found are free of animal testing but, for example, As I Am cowash...that company tests on animals. I went to Sally today to buy a jar, looked at label and realized I couldn’t buy it. You may have already addressed this and my apologies if you’ve already answered my question but I’ve not gone through every video on your channel yet. I will 😊 but am not there yet. Many thanks again for all the time and effort you’ve put into your wonderful videos!
So I just came across your channel by way of the Dyson diffuser video you posted. It was really helpful and I decided to purchase the Xtavia blow dryer and black Orchid Diffuser...BUT...the blow dryer has been recalled! I’m wondering if there’s anything comparable with the duo or a compatible blow dryer?
Looks great girl! I can't believe you use a pick and really shake it! I guess I do need to start using gel. I just freak out about it. I use As I am Leave in or KKNT, then Cantu Curly Cream, then Mouse because I'm afraid of gel! I really gotta try it again because last time it totally didn't work for me.
Have you tried to scrunch your roots? Next time your hair is wet use whatever product you use but scrunch your hair up and grab your roots to scrunch them too! That works for me.
I had this same problem when I was first transitioning. It will get curlier over time but something that helped me was I wouldn’t go upside down all the way when I would scrunch in my products so finally I did and went and flipped my head further and now it is curlier and has more volume
Help! This is how I have diffused my hair, with a very similar length and cut to yours, for years and it works great...at this length. But I'm growing it out long and now that it's a good 6" past my shoulders, it just does not cup into the xtava the same way. I keep ending up with stringy, non-waves. I'm going back and reviewing all my products and methods, trying to get my waves back.
Thanks for the tutorials! I’m new to all this and was wondering what size are them deva clips? The ones I got are quite small and would prefer larger ones like the ones you were using in this tutorial. Thank you so much in advance!
I am new to curly girl and have some questions... how often to cowash? then when i do the clarifying shampoo, then hair masque, do you condition after too? Do you put the gel in when your hair is soaking wet or after you dry it with a tshirt? I will be plopping with a tshirt.
I plopped tonight but it just makes my hair so out of place when I take it down. I have to put the curls back in place. I used the same diffuser and dryer you have but I was wondering how can you tell when your hair is dry? I can never tell if it's all the way dry and sometimes I think I scrunch out the crunch to soon.
I can always tell if it doesn't feel cold to the touch anymore, and feels much lighter on my head. I always have to arrange my curls after I plop, too. But if I didn't plop, my hair would be way too damp to diffuse!
I often scrunch out the crunch too early, I’m so impatient and my hair takes FOREVER to dry, even with a diffuser! I’ve heard that turning the dryer to the cold setting helps you “feel” if your hair is dry or not. Often when it’s damp but warm you think it’s dry, so maybe try finishing on cold?
I bought the orchid diffuser and matching dryer and I used it the other day and it made straight spots some how. Not sure what I did wrong. I cupped the hair and brought up against my head and it seemed to get straighter the more I dried! Weird! Do you have any ideas why that would happen?
Haha! Ok...I watched your 5 mistakes video and found myself totally lost in the lingo. 🤣 I am not a wavy/curly gal but my 12 year is just now trying to figure it out. My sister in laws came down and helped her and it screamed 1980’s....ahh... I think I need to watch all 101 videos to know what to buy her and how to help her....she doesn’t have crazy curly hair...but lots of waves and frizz... plus she swims in the swim team all year round which equals damage....it is so overwhelming to know where to start. If you have curly hair for dumbing recommendations...let me know. I really appreciated this video...still trying to figure out what plopping, clarifying, lopoo(what is that?) and deep condition...when and how to do those things. I will search your videos tho to try and lead
Hey Alyson, I'm wondering how long it takes you to blow dry your hair in total, and also how often you wash it? Thanks in advance, I'm new to this whole thing!
Hi Sarah! I wash every other day. I typically cowash with my As I Am coconut cowash every 2-3 washes, then wash with a sulfate free shampoo that that 3rd or 4th wash (I normally use my Raw Curls shampoo). My hair takes 20-25 minutes to dry completely with the diffuser on medium heat, low speed, depending on the products I've used. Heavier products = more drying time. :)
Hi Alyson, I just watched this again. My question is: I Have the Deva Volumizing foam but don't know how to use it. When should I put it on ( before/after which other products? Do I put it on soaking wet or partially dry hair? How much to use and do I emulsify it in my hands ? Lastly, do I scrunch it in or what? SORRY for so many ??? But It's sitting in my bathroom staring at me!
Don't let it just stare at you! It's too good for that!! My favorite way to use this is as a curl enhancer in the LCEG method (Leave in, Cream, Enhancer, Gel), so you'd apply it after your leave-in and/or cream, and under your gel. I use 2 1/2 pumps on my long hair, so just be sure to tailor your quantity accordingly. It's great stuff! I know many Deva stylists like using it over a gel, but that doesn't work well for me personally. Hope it works for you!!
Your hair looks beautiful! I'm just embarking on my curly/wavy hair journey. Your videos help a lot! Thank you! P.S. You remind me of Elizabeth Berkley from "Saved by the Bell". ❤️
I don't think I spend enough time diffusing. But what I'm wondering is, how long altogether does it take you to diffuse your hair to the point of 85% dry?
Just started following you. I had to laugh because I have that exact same pick, AND it has a broken part just like yours! Kept it from my big hair days lol!!!!! Now my girls use it too! I really like your videos; thanks for taking the time to record them :) >
Which model blow dryer do you have? I just bought the diffuser & it doesn’t fit my mine. I want to buy the Xtava Allure, but I’m hesitant in case it doesn’t fit.
I just found your channel and love it. I do have a question though. Instead of air drying with the clips in at the end can I still diffuse with the clips in?
I’m a new viewer and starting from the beginning because I think (hope) we have similar hair! Yours is beautiful and I hope that as I grow mine out from a pixie cut and learn more about taking care of my waves, I might be able to achieve your beautiful style! Thank you for the video. 😊
Good question! I don't--and when using a diffuser, especially when using it on low-med heat, you shouldn't need one. I had not had a hair cut in 9 months, and my stylist (who just recently cut my hair) said I could have gone longer because there was no damage.
hello, I am from Spain, I like your tips, explications are so clear and you are so fine. So I have a question, where can I buy this diffuser? The link of amazon, does no ship to spain, maybe in other private shop? thanks I support you!!
The Orchid diffuser was out of stock for a while, too--I'm sure it will be back. I have the Peony also, and it's my favorite! Works great with the Orchid diffuser.
Hi I’m brand new to CG I find your videos to be great! I am wavy like you and Trying to find my way with the right products ! Currently using Enjoy styling lotion and shea natural shampoo conditioner . Due to that is all I have and can afford . Tried the LA looks and that is a no go .
You seriously are my go to for hair now. Us wavies are usually left out when it comes to hair care.... I’m learning so much!
No more straightening my hair. I'm DONE.. so done! 360 days and only 5 days natural.. thank you so much God bless you
OMG so excited for you!!!! You are READY!
Yes
Same
It’s a year later! How did it go? :)
😂 awesomeness Girl let me start by saying thank you so much! I get SO MANY compliments.... of how healthy and bouncy my hair is. 🥰😍
Your dry blow technique is ahhhmazing!!! I just used it today and now I have the most gorgeous curls ever. And believe me, my hair is wavy... Not curly. Thank you!
Hey all, as a curly girl diffuser junkie I now have tinitis (hearing damage, ringing ears) - please use earplugs when diffusing!
Good warning
Omg, I never thought of this! Thanks
😮
I'm new to wavy & curly hair too. I'e learned that I don't take near enough time diffusing...I rush it and didn't realize......
+ann martin Aren’t those lightbulb moments the best??? Love it when that happens!

I love your videos! I got a perm last week and I was feeling totally lost on how to handle things. I feel so much better after watching a couple of your videos. Thank you so much!!!
Your videos are an absolute godsend! Going all the way back in your archives :) I'm a total wavy newbie and am learning so much from you! Thank you!
I'm new to CG method. I'm glad to know about the gel cast. In the past, if I used a new gel, mousse, etc that was crunchy, I wouldn't use it anymore. Now I know that I can use those, but I must break the cast. Thanks for the video! :-)
I know, it's such a breakthrough concept, isn't it?! I felt the same way! Glad this has helped you. :)

It turned out so pretty!
I have very fine hair and my curls are in the process of coming back. Your hair came out awesome 👏🏼 thanks for sharing
Super helpful to someone new to diffusing. Plus love your sarcastic humor!
LOL thanks!
My hair at the crown of my head is similar to your density, just mine is a touch more frizzy. Your hair looks very fine. I'm still struggling with getting it to look nice at the root. I will keep trying! I appreciate the video.
Oh my! Thank you for sharing this! I’m new to embracing my wavy fine hair, and your videos are so helpful! Thank you

Mines wavy and I hate the feeling of too much product too. I've found using liquid styling products helps.
That’s a big massive diffuser ..love it
THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING THIS! IT HELP ME SO MUCH!!😊❤️
I love how your hair turned out
My wavy curly hair looks like a mess after trying my diffuser lol...
Ej_ L same 🙄
Saaaaaaaaame
put your hair in the diffuser fist, then turn it on, that works best.
Just started diffusing my curly hair ♥️♥️♥️♥️
I just discovered you on instagram. Love your channel and looking forward to more videos! Finally someone with kind of similar hair. Thank you!
Wendy, you're so kind! Thanks for the comment and the follows--I hope some of this helps you out!
You’ve have helped me alot!!. So glad I found your channel.

The Xtava Allure hair dryer is in recall right now Aug 2018.
Thank you for mentioning that! Yes, I just followed the recall process myself. Appreciate your posting this!
I have a crappy little Conair and electric taped this same diffuser to it hahaha. Works PERFECT
Enjoyed that. You look great 👍🏻 and it was helpful. I’ve let my hair grow and I’m trying to figure it out so I don’t have to work so hard to get it to look ok.

Ashley Goudreau I havd the same problem its so annoying.. some people said leaving the diffuser a long time on each strand helps with that..
I’m so glad someone suggested I look you up lol! This was super helpful!
Thanks so much for another great video! your hair looks the most beautiful in this video. I am going to try this tomorrow morning. Hopefully, I'll wake up early enough lol
I’ve been watching your videos tonight and have learned so much. I was using too much conditioner and the wrong gel!
Awwww I'm so glad to help!
Beautiful! Really loving your videos and they are so helpful!
Yay! I'm so glad! Thanks for letting me know. :)
Omggggg sorry for my english, i speak spanish so im trying i waaaas looking for someone like you with similar hair thankssss god
It does fit the Deva hair dryer 👏👏👏.
That is AWESOME!!!
WOW this was so helpful! Your results are amazing. I so many things in my amazon account right now lol
My hair when it’s wet looks like yours but a bit less wavy. But it dries straight☹️ I’m going to try and use some methods and see what happens!
Saturn Sounds girl same! I just bought a diffuser today to see how it goes
Looks great girl! I can't believe you use a pick and really shake it! I guess I do need to start using gel. I just freak out about it. So I have an issue with my hair. My roots won't curl but the rest of my hair will how do I fix this
Have you tried to scrunch your roots? Next time your hair is wet use whatever product you use but scrunch your hair up and grab your roots to scrunch them too! That works for me.

That hair pick reminds me of this wide tooth comb my mom has from the eights called the wave keeper
Wish they still made them!
Will you get the same results using only the cool setting? I’m terrified to use heat because it will straighten my hair :/
Of course, and even more definition/less volume and frizz. It just takes longer, and I'm not patient. ;)
Your videos are amazing! Thank you!!
Hi! I am wondering does the diffuser dry your scalp? or does it only dry the hair but leave the scalp wet after diffusing?
Your hair is beautiful!!
Thank you SO much! I'm blushing!
This is so helpful. Thank you!
+Tapping83 You're super welcome!
Hi there love your videos I was wondering if you know if the black orchid diffuser will fit on the AG midnight blow dryer thanks
Thank you for this!!! Will any diffuser work or should I invest in a big one like yours?
Thanks for the tutorials! I’m new to all this and was wondering what size are them deva clips? The ones I got are quite small and would prefer larger ones like the ones you were using in this tutorial. Thank you so much in advance!
I am new to curly girl and have some questions... how often to cowash?
then when i do the clarifying shampoo, then hair masque, do you condition after too? Do you put the gel in when your hair is soaking wet or after you dry it with a tshirt? I will be plopping with a tshirt.
Also my hair gets soooooooo tangled and starts to turn into dreadlocks by the end of the day (my hair is pretty long..below my boobs).
DANG IT! I love your hair textured xoxoxoxo
I bought the orchid diffuser and matching dryer and I used it the other day and it made straight spots some how. Not sure what I did wrong. I cupped the hair and brought up against my head and it seemed to get straighter the more I dried! Weird! Do you have any ideas why that would happen?
Wow you use your hands to SOTC ? If I do that it gets frizzy
You have gorgeous hair! These were great tips. 😊
How long does it take you in total to get your hair dry like this?
I typically dry my hair for about 15-20 minutes.
Going way back here. Was looking at the dryer and clips again. What are the plastic clips you reference?
I used a sport gel and it didn't form a cast. Maybe I should stick with mousse?
Great video -- thank you for sharing!!
+marcia little You're so very welcome!
Thanks! I'll do this next wash day.
This is amazing!
Your hair looks beautiful! I'm just embarking on my curly/wavy hair journey. Your videos help a lot! Thank you!
P.S. You remind me of Elizabeth Berkley from "Saved by the Bell". ❤️
Thank you!!! Wish I was that tall! LOL
Is there another option than the meta clips? My hair is so thick long and heavy my hair ways them down and they don’t help with lift.
I don't think I spend enough time diffusing. But what I'm wondering is, how long altogether does it take you to diffuse your hair to the point of 85% dry?
Somebody knows how attached this diffuser to the Dyson blow dryer?
Ok, random question, where did you buy the swinging mirror attached to your wall? I've been wanting one exactly like it.
Bed Bath and Beyond. :)
Just started following you. I had to laugh because I have that exact same pick, AND it has a broken part just like yours! Kept it from my big hair days lol!!!!! Now my girls use it too! I really like your videos; thanks for taking the time to record them :) >
Your hair colour is very good.
I cannot find the Xtava blow dryer on Amazon 😭
Which model blow dryer do you have? I just bought the diffuser & it doesn’t fit my mine. I want to buy the Xtava Allure, but I’m hesitant in case it doesn’t fit.
Which plastic clips do you recommend?
I just found your channel and love it. I do have a question though. Instead of air drying with the clips in at the end can I still diffuse with the clips in?
You definitely can!
I’m a new viewer and starting from the beginning because I think (hope) we have similar hair! Yours is beautiful and I hope that as I grow mine out from a pixie cut and learn more about taking care of my waves, I might be able to achieve your beautiful style! Thank you for the video. 😊
He he he he, she called us curly gurls, hehe, ima straight guy. Hehe he, like omg, soooooo FABULOUSSSSSSS!
YOU ARE HILARIOUS!
I have driven to work with my clips in while I left my hair air dry. My commute is about 45 min. It’s still not dry but helps. 😝
you hair is beautiful omgaaa
Do you ever use anything to help protect against heat damage?
Good question! I don't--and when using a diffuser, especially when using it on low-med heat, you shouldn't need one. I had not had a hair cut in 9 months, and my stylist (who just recently cut my hair) said I could have gone longer because there was no damage.
Thank you! This was so informative and helpful! Shit I'm 45 and didn't know most of this lmao
Me too! On the knowing and the age!
You’re an artist!
Alefe Christian your compliment means more to me than you could possibly know. Thank you!
hello, I am from Spain, I like your tips, explications are so clear and you are so fine. So I have a question, where can I buy this diffuser? The link of amazon, does no ship to spain, maybe in other private shop? thanks I support you!!
I can't find the Allure hair dryer anymore 😕
The Orchid diffuser was out of stock for a while, too--I'm sure it will be back. I have the Peony also, and it's my favorite! Works great with the Orchid diffuser.
Okay, thanks! 😉
Do you use heat or just blow dry without heat?
Excellent video!!! I'm set Free
LOVE!!!
"you know I don't like editing" 😂😂😂😂😂
Duuuuude it's soooo time-consuming LOL
Omg. This is perfect! If only it only took the 11 mins the video shows! lol
Dani Messick So true! But certain products, like Innersense and Raw Curls, can help decrease drying time. So there's that!
