@@cstar2319 It's because it is wrong... You use different grips for different types of shots. If your doing clears, smashes, it's all forehand. You should only use the bevel grip there when doing a backhand or doing a late cross shot from the left side. There's a few other scenarios, but that's all I'm giving for u cuz that's already a lot to work on...

I'd like to propose a revolution - let's start calling the "backhand grip" the "thumb grip".
It confuses people who then think it's the standard grip for most backhand shots.
    Who's with me?
    😁

      Bevel
      Basic
      Thumb
      Finally!

Hey guys, when i train with my coach and we do rear court shots, smash, clears, drops, she recommends that i used a closed forehand grip. Basically a forehand grip but no space between the index fingers and the other fingers, like making a punch but while holding a racket. Do you think this is good for the above shots? Or should i have some space between my index and other fingers? Thanks in advance!!

Just try out the 2 grips and see which works for you. Some top pros use more fist grip as well. For example, Ko Sung Hyun. For me, the gap grip felt unnatural at the start, but it is easier to control now and gives about same power as fist grip. Also it is easier to change grip with the gap grip.
