Great start! You are heading in the right direction towards minimalism. It gets easier to let go of more as you go. I have already extremely downsized everything and sometimes I still find myself weeding things out that I don't love and wear anymore.
It was fun to watch your purging process. I downsized my closet over the last 3 years from 167 items (clothes/shoes) to about 90 items. It's not about a specific number for me, but to show how far I have come. I no longer have to rotate out clothes according to seasons. It all hangs on about 3.5 feet of rod space. I had to go through many purges to get where I am. Keep up the hard work and you'll know when you're where you want to be.
In my opinion (and what I have found with my wardrobe) is that all I really need is 6 basic t-shirts, 4 long sleeves, 2 button downs, two jeans, one skirt, one pair of shorts, 1 formal dress, one day dress, 2 jackets and two coats (one for summer one for winter) and I am very happy with what I have and never feel like I need anything more. Even before I cleared out what I thought was a lot of clothes I still had less than you once you had actually completed your declutter!
Good for you! Well done, I've got my mum coming over to mine tomorrow to help me reduce my closet (we don't call it that over here in the UK we just have wardrobes and chest of drawers I guess as our houses/apartments aren't that spacious) but I truly need to declutter my life!!
You should do the hanger trick which is change the way you hangers are then each time you wear it change it so after you see what you wore and what you didn't
You got rid of all of the cute basic things. Try the KonMari method not doing it in the closet but putting all of the clothes on the floor and sorting.

Best method for a closet is - take it ALL out, put like with like, thoroughly clean closet, wash shelves etc esp. to eliminate moths, select the best i.e. x1 or x2 of each style, give the rest away. Put cloths back in clean closet - tops together, skirts together, dresses together etc and all colour together. You'll never look back or buy the same thing again and again.
I definitely got rid of a lot of "cheap" stuff and a lot of the things I kept were better quality and cost more. I work from home, so on a day to day basis, I'm normally in basic and comfier clothes.
My dry cleaners accepts ALL kinds of hangers. You could ask your local place if they want them. If the hangers are not just the plain wire ones (they looked like the nice velvet ones), I think the Salvation Army or other charity shop can actually sell them. Just avoid Goodwill bc they suck as a charity. They do little or nothing to help people.
Yes! I always try to donate at Salvation Army instead of Goodwill! Although I think I'm going to end up keeping the hangers because they do end up broken a lot :)
