I got some last year from m.c. to test out if they would really survive new England winter. I covered them with dried autumn leaves for extra insulation to over winter and this spring they look fantastic and are already showing signs of new growth :) I'm looking forward to order more. My plan is to have an entire garden over following with headrest succulents! 😍💚✌️

Thankyou Annie for addressing my question . I have bought trays before . However believe it or not I killed most of them do to poor management . Looking for a succulent full of color with the same requirements for growing them .
Is there timing in relation to frost for when to transplant them (and not) outside (i.e. avoid planting after x weeks from firat frost, or plant x days before first frost)? Also, will they survive the low temps while in pots outside, or do they need to be in the ground for the cold hardiness? I personally only need hardy to 0F. Great video, love succulents. So excited about finding cold hardy ones!! I have a bunch that can only be indoors in winter and summer.. and it's hard to find enough sunny window space. I ended up putting them all where it is best for them, but I don't see them much there. Will enjoy the outdoor ones much more.
Great questions! I recommend getting them planted at least one month before the first frost. And they will be slightly less frost hardy in a pot as opposed to in-ground, but will still manage temps down to 0F just fine if you keep them fairly dry. Enjoy your succulent gardening! Annie
How do these type of outdoor succulents fair in areas of extreme rain. I live in zone 8b and we dont get super cold but we get about 88 inches of rain a year.
Hoooo doggy that's a lotta precip! You'd need an extra gritty soil piled up in berms to drain that water away from their roots. You could also plant in well-draining containers that can be pulled under an awning during your rainiest season. In general, frost hardy Sedum and Delosperma tolerate extra water better than Sempervivum. Another great trick is to go vertical and cram succulents into tiny crevices in rocky piles or retaining wall. This really helps their roots dry out faster and mitigates rot. Good luck!
Are the hardy succulents resistant to being eaten by our high desert companions? Bunnies mostly but we also have ground squirrels and kangaroo rats here in Kingman, AZ!!
We have a ton of rabbits and squirrels here in south Denver and have had zero problems with them being eaten. I will say that the bunnies like the rock garden as a bed and we have to chase them out every once in a while, but no eating that I've noticed.
Ooh thank you for the intel Kellers in Colorado! I've seen the same thing in other regions too. Sometime wildlife will take a bite out of curiosity, but they don't come back for more. The issue you might see is with burrowing animals dislodging your succulents.
I have a question. Do the sedums with tiny leaves (Golddigger, Baby Tears, etc.) need more frequent watering? I'm doing great with the 50+ succulents I have, but I killed the Golddigger.
@@Mountaincrestgardens It's 20 degrees outside with snow. I can't plant them until spring. I was thinking I could propagate them during the winter. I have a great setup with plant lights and a fan. Each plant is in it's own 4" terracotta pot. I water when they are all dry - about every 10 days.

I just ordered these. 3/4 arrived fine - but are struggling here in N. Nevada. The remaining 1/4 arrived half dead or completely dead. Perhaps they were running low on inventory. I thought for the price I was paying $200+ that I’d be receiving a better product. Great marketing campaign. $10 for half dead plants was disappointing.

Yes! Loosening the soil and roots helps them get established in their new soil.

Correct! We don't know what your setup is like, but frost hardy Sedum often fare a lot better outdoors.
