- In early 1994, News 8's Larry Himmel explored the history of Chula Vista - "the anchor of the South Bay" - in San Diego. For the piece, Larry interviewed Thelma Krantz who was born in Chula Vista in 1906 and spent 40 years a a school teacher in the area. He also commented on how Third Avenue had become a "center of commerce" by the 1920s. Larry also touched on other historical giants from Chula Vista including Rohr Industries and La Bella Pizza.

R.I.P Larry. Loved your stories and sense of humor.
Worked at Rohr...lived here since 1988 east of 805.
i was in Chula Vista in 94’
Born and raised in CV since 1985. I loved growing up there. My dad worked at rohr and we always lived off of broadway. First behined the butcher shop then behined leftys tattoo parlor. Fun times growing up in the 90s & early 00s there. I know west cv like the back of my hands but i get lost in the newly developed east chula vista. Now i see a lot more dope fiends and homeless in west chula.
My step-dad retired from CVFD after 33 years.
I graduated 1974 Castle Park
