  • Rotors wear due to contact with brake pads. Tools and solutions shown to check rotor wear.
    Most bike rotors are made to wear 0.5 - 1.0 mm before reaching permissible minimum thickness. Wearing rotors thinner than the permissible minimum will make them warp due to their reduced ability to dissipate heat from breaking. A warped rotor does not have full contact with its brake pads, is "wobbly", and is EXTREMELY unsafe. Keep an eye on yours. Do not EVER true a worn rotor on a lathe or with a grinder.

    My disc is like your drawing, and some extra bumps in between outer and inner edge. Its screeching even after new pads . Thanks for your videos.

    if you have a tyre measure pin you can stick it through the hole providing you put something flat on the other side

    not sure about it, I'm not an expert, but doesn't it wear like the shape of the brake pads, and since the pressure from the pistons should pretty much push from the center of the pads (if all is working mechanically correctly) then the wear shape should be more like a rectangle indentation, not an angle wear???

      Roation ALWAYS creates a more worn leading edge (pad digs into rotor) and a less worn training edge, mostly because push is exactly at the center of the pads

    Nice video, and orange rims, thanks. Can brakes that were used with a warped rotor (from the separated wheel being dropped on a curb while filling with air) warp a new rotor too? The old brake pads look straight and the braking is much smoother now with the new rotor.

      BlackArro Productions Brakes are designed to move freely side-to-side about 6 mm (1/4 inch) for self-centering. It the pads are making 100% contact, they will work fine. The old pads could be worn skewed (straight, but on an angle), only making partial contact with the new rotor at the thickest point on the pad.

    Where are you guys getting your numbers from?!! You are the 3rd person so far who has said that brake rotors are between 4-5 hundred dollars! I have a newer model VN1600 and my front rotors are only 70 bucks a pc, and the rear 50 bucks Brand new! Those prices must be for certain bikes! GEESH!

      70 bucks? I wish. My Yamaha FZ6 will run me around 370 per Rotor and this is the cheapest I could find from EBC.

    Is all calipers have same mounting.. I want to change my Caliper and main cylinder .

      No. Some mount with bolts pointing forward, some with bolts running the same direction as the wheel axle. Caliper offset is all important to reach to the brake rotor. Designs vary a lot.
