Hey first of all very informative video. Thanks for that! Just have a question what is the different between 3dprinted keycaps and resin casted keycaps?
SLA printed keycaps use resins specifically made for curing using UV light layer by layer, while cast resin is usually self curing (from a mix of two part solution). The prints tend to be quite brittle (more so if they are cured for a longer time), so the stem part may not be very durable in use. It is common to use a printed master to create a silicon mold, then use the mold to cast "production copies".
Yeah pretty much my findings as well ^. You either can use Clay to make your "master" keycap, or 3d-print your master keycap. You then take the master keycap and make a mold using silicone.
the keycap with my dimentions might feel a bit overtight, but it's better to be this way since different switches have stems that are not exactly the same.
using Chitubox for the slicer. You can ask what most people use in the Z-butt discord, I have no idea what my print settings are cause I always change them since I'm not the best at 3d printing lolol
Would I be able to print model smaller than 10mm with this? I intended to print really small and find detail like ornament on the ring, really fine detail without losing it on the printed product. thank you in advance
hmm.. to be honest I am not sure. I am by no means an expert in 3d printing, as I am currently a beginner. Phrozen has a facebook group where you can ask! lots of people who could answer there
Also is there no universal size on stem of the keycap? my switches are black gateron silent but the keycap keeps falling of. T hat doesnt happens on my old outemu switches.
To my current understanding, there IS a "standard", which I think they try to adhere to the stem dimensions from Cherry. Though, each manufacturer may have different tolerances and acceptance criteria, so there's bound to be some slight variations (I think).
5.7mm stem diameter and 3.9mm stem hole works best for me. 5.7-5.8mm stem diameter makes the stem much stronger and thicker and still compatible with all mx switches. using mixture of regular and flexible resin makes keycaps unbrakable.
And I wanted to say to all of you who want to start making keycaps with resin printers. I have been doing this for a long time and what I recommend is that you make the cross in a PLA printer and then glue it to the resin piece
Welcome back! We missed ur vids!!! 🥳❤️
THANK YOU QUEEN
thx you for the videos! Help so much, i love watch you making keycaps
thank you for watching!

Newww videooo thanks. Would you do a tutorial video on designing and painting 3d printed keycaps in the future?
Thanks for watching!
Hmm, to be honest I have no interest/knowledge of hand-painting keycaps. I do all my colors purely with multi-shot resin casting!
@@CosmoCaps thanks for the reply a big fan of you videos
What desktop and specs do you use to 3d print

so did those adjustments work or what?
Yes!!!! Adjust the stem by using the actual dimensions. It'll differ depending on your casting conditions + resins you use

Lovely
Thanks!
I just bought a resin printer and wanted to use it for keycaps!
Awesome! Have fun making keycaps!

The resin of the printer in what I have seen is not so resistant and it tends to break.
Yeah I don't put the 3d print directly on my keyboard - I use silicone to make a mold of it and then cast it with resin!
