My good friend Chuck has his plate full with a lot of projects so I lent a hand to help get his bee hives in order and start growing his apiary. We started with three large colonies and split them each three ways to make a total of nine colonies. The new splits will all start off with virgin queens. We also got pretty good footage of a new queen emerging or being born so to speak and entering the hive. She immediately began piping and it is pretty clear on the video. She just sings her little heart out. So if you've never witnessed such you can watch her being born and listen to her sing. For sure this new queen was quick and noisy.
All these splits could have been placed in nuc boxes but there were enough numbers to put them in full size boxes as well plus that saves a step of moving them again as they grow.
Before I left we noticed and caught a swarm that came from one of these hives as it hung from a live oak tree about fifteen feet off the ground. He made me take it home with me as a thanks for the help. He also hooked my wife up with a couple more chickens. We went back later and got some blue laced red wyandotte chicks from him. This was filmed around the end of March.

Chuck is such a nice guy. Well, you are definitely nice as well. I loved when he was picking those chickens out to give you he said "That's a pretty one there." He was making sure he gave you the ones he thought were the nicest looking of the bunch. 😀 Good friends like you two are becoming harder and harder hard to find these days.
Chuck is a good guy for sure.
My opinion is because people are too busy with social media “friends.”

i really enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for posting your experiences. i am a Tennessee native living in kansas where we have a terrible shortage of southern folk. Watching your videos is like being at home with kin.
Glad to have you home. Got a fresh banana bread in the kitchen. ;)
only in the deep south of the United States can you find someone watching the miracle of a queen bee coming out and bullets going off in the background. lol
+Velma Jinkys LOL!! Never thought of that.
+Velma Jinkys right?! and no one is alarmed in the least.
+Velma Jinkys not that uncommon here in Missouri either
Same thing in Oregon. Plus also you can grow weed in Oregon, so there's that.
628DirtRooster did you hear the queen piping at 5:00 and 5:04 as you were taking the queen Cel off that hive? That was cool I could hear it and I’m shocked that you didn’t catch it.
Very awesome episode. That queen hatching should have been its own video! That could go viral!
+MIgardener | Simple Organic Gardening & Sustainable Living I would freak if any of my videos went viral. LOL
+MIgardener | Simple Organic Gardening & Sustainable Living maybe I should do a time lapse of a whole row of queens emerging.
628DirtRooster YES
Wonderful seeing the queen emerge! Awesome footage. (Looks like your friend is building a chicken maze!)
When Chuck takes on a hobby or project he is all in.

+justlivin Such a fun dude to hang out with.
Aww that puppy at the start was gorgeous!
+CopperKnutz I was spoiling him. I kept rubbing his belly with my shoe. By the time I left he would just run under our feet and roll over on his back.
So lovely how respectful you are of the bees! Makes me want to have my own bees :)
Great vid guys. I saw that queen and you didn't miss nothin, lol She had gangly legs and 1 eye, walked with a limp and leaned to the left.Pretty voice though O.o

Birth of a queen and her first interaction with her bees! What a beautiful and interesting thing to witness. I always wondered how exactly it happens. Thanks for the video!
+Norse Dragonhunt She shoots out like a stunt man out of a cannon. ;)
That Queen being born and then singing was amazing!!
"A trailer Queen", Oh my LOL
I love how those drones immediately went to the hatching queen cell. They knew what was up~ ;) I can't even blame them; she hatched out lovely! Gorgeous color and such nice stripes; no wonder they all wanted a piece of that action! Haha!
We'll have to restrict this video to 18 and older for viewing. ;)

+628DirtRooster and that during Prom season!
Good video, I like the fact how you took the time to measure; observe & therefore, notice the behavior & attitudes.
It's a great hobby to take up.
I never knew that queens "piped" like that. Great video as always.
+DPXPC Sometimes you can her them while doing a cut out.

A twofer Dirt rooster video... queen hatching and a swarm capture all in a couple of hours.
Out standing stuff Bro.
+Papa's Place Thanks Les. I couldn't believe it took us as long as it did to spot that swarm. We were out there for over an hour before even thinking to go looking around for them.
That was awesome! Not sure how I started searched bees today but stumbled upon your Katrina bee hive video and was bummed that didnt get to see the queen. Then i found this video hahah awesome stuff man!
Hey Dirt rooster I know this is old video but it was a new one for me ! I loved it seeing the queen hatching was awesome and hearing the sound she made was really neat thank you so much for catching that and sharing it ! By the way I come to you as a new subscriber by way of course by none other than Mr. Ed ! Lol. God Bless... Oh Merry Christmas 🎁🎄 and Happy New Year 🎆 !
I'm so glad you made it over here. Lets get you cured from what ever Mr. Ed infected your mind with.

+rchopp Sometimes we get lucky with the camera. :)
Very good lesson. Thank you.
Awesome to be able to see a queen hatch! Thx!
+Soaps From Home Always fun to see them come out.
Love the pup, great video
Outstanding capture!
So cool, hopefully be able to find a house with some land to have a hive or two of my own here soon.
+BlackThunder885 Good goal to pursue!
Now, I'm terrified of bees, but the sound of the queen piping was a very cute sound :D I don't mind watching bees from behind a phone or laptop screen, or even behind a window in real life, as long as I'm not outside with the bees, I'm fine. I'll watch them all day. They are very interesting. But I've been stung so many times since I was a kid and I have sensory processing disorder, so bee stings hurt a hundred times worse on me than it would a normal person, so that's made me so terrified of them
Love the vids with Chuck.
+nayr1969 Dude needs his own channel. :)
Watching this channel is good for the soul.
You are too kind.
Watched this I don't know how long ago. Came back and watched it again.
Your everywhere, every search I do. There you are . Awesome stuff man.
That was great, fun and educational.👍👍
I love the queen's songs.
She needs a record label. ;)
That was the coolest (maybe easiest and quickest??) swarm capture I've ever seen!
+M. Smith Another world record maybe? :)
+628DirtRooster (to the tune of I Can Hear the Saviour Calling)
I can hear the Guinness calling,
I can hear the Guinness calling,
I can hear the Guinness calling,
Take your bucket, swarm, and follow me.
I came for the bees, but oh my that puppies
This is funny because I think mine had already swarmed once too. That is pretty amazing footage you got there!
+ArtisanTony I hate to miss them and lose them to swarming but you can't beat them all.
+ArtisanTony you're spreading the wealth. lol
I love the videos keep em coming
We'll try :)
one of my better lunch hours. thanks for sharing
+Velma Jinkys Thanks for taking us to lunch. ;)
Mess around with that piping sound, end up with a pile of virgins punching you in the face. Nice swarm grab. I did my first on Sunday. Was a nice pile on the side of a house. An hour of scooping bees up 30 feet, I wish they were on a branch. Queen was marked 2015 too!
+Lolita's Garden Haha! I always find it funny when I catch someone else's bees. Just caught another one today.
Yall look like good people! My kinda people!
wow what an incredible video this is the best one and I watch your videos from Alberta Canada
Very cool! Thanks for posting!
+Rob Farrow It ain't a wheelie on a CanAm but it'll do I recon. LOL

+Shane Villis He seems to have the golden touch when raising anything.
looks it...how are his rabbits doing?? does he breed for pets?? meat?? or both??
Shane Villis Both but he's kind of dialed back the rabbit business.
yeah ok ...poor old fella, got no time to do anything when he's retired
Shane Villis Yeah. ;)
I’ll say this for ya Dirtrooster...your rendition of the queen pipping was excellent lmao....
That's my singing voice.
lotsa cool stuff going on in this vid.

+GEODEAHOLIC M Preshate it. lol
Ha what a great film, got to walk around Chucks place, see a queen hatch, then probably the world record for a swarm removal. Just uploading my own vid of getting my bees. I have dedicated it to you sir:).Hobby beekeeping is my new way of life...
+littleninpo Glad your bees are in. I was joking with Chuck that we set a speed record for hiving a swarm. lol
Thoroughly enjoyed video!
Good job yall!! New subscriber here trying to learn something new. Thinking about trying to get a hive of our own someday. Your videos are amazing and helpful. Love the worlds largest hive one shaking the tree seems to be a very successful recurring theme with yall. Cheers from RHODE ISLAND. Peace.
Maybe you can grow a tree like that. ;)
We about got the ole moon. Ya'll got that swarm catching down to quick, ole Chuck will have to add some broad frames yes? Looked like the frames ya'll split on my have been holding honey. Love them chickens and he's got some pretty ens. Thanks for the vid. Capt'n
+wincharter1 He'll be ready to stack again soon. Maybe under a full moon.
+628DirtRooster I gotcha
+wincharter1 He's breeding all those fancy breeds. My wife ran over there and got some chicks when she heard what all he had.
I do like chickens, neighborhood ass. won't let us keep them. I've raised them beau-coup times, he's got some pretty ones.
+wincharter1 Must have one of those nosy home owners associations.
Bees and a Heeler... what more can one ask for :)
Sweet tea. :)
Brilliant footage and good story there man :)
I was smoking a spliff watching that queen emerge. That was cool as shit. Stay frosty, my friend.
+darkangelsoaps That'll crank up the video quality I guess. Thanks for watching.
628DirtRooster
haha all your vids are top notch regardless! thanks for taking the time to bring us these videos!
That was a fast catch for as high as it was ! way cool
+Theredneck Prepper Wham Bam..... lol
That was amazing. I am not a bee keeper, but your videos are so educational to me. Had no idea the science behind all this. Great job and excellent video. Thank you. I wish I could start bee keeping, but I live in a residential area. I do have a huge back yard with no one behind me. What is the approximate initial cost?
nice swarmcatch :-)
Thanks
This is amazing, i need to live in the country.
Get out of the city! lol
So fun to see!
+DrummerlovesBookworm Thanks for watching.
What a complete nd utter privilege to witness that. wow
The birth of royalty...
I love the swarm bucket.
Works like a charm.
that swarm capture was bad to the bone!
I like Chuck's lil dog, he just wants to be part of the action.
Went home with a new hive of bees and some purdy chickens, not a bad deal at all.
+Justin Sánchez Thanks for the views Justin.
@@628DirtRooster Eggs, chicken breast and honey. Umm good!
That pup was too cool!
+caddisking He'll make a good yard dog.
Chuck seems like a good guy.
Very good
628DirtRooster I am proud to tell you I went out and captured my first wild Bee swarm. Watching your Video's inspired me and my wife to go out capture one. I was not able to catch the queen but at some point the bee's started marching into the box so I'm sure I got her. I got lots of brood and some honey, the bees were smaller then the bees I see on your channel and mostly black with some yellow.
My Question is, do I wait the full 4 days before releasing hive in there new home?
+Kelly Richardson Congratulations!! 48 hours locked up is what I do. In the shade of course. You can put them where you want them before releasing them.
wow that's one way to build your hive count up. Hopefully I have that kind of luck one of these days
+Runnen Reb Shouldn't take you too long.
+628DirtRooster Hey you got some more free publicity today on my latest video. It's loading up now. I really appreciate your vids
Lmao i know it's an old video but that intro! That's my favorite one 😂🤣
Chickens and bees are awesome!
We love them.
LOL...I loved it.
Good video!
I love good ol' boys.
That was an awesome video!
+Len Frame Thanks Len Frame
Great stuff!
Thanks PandaPapa
I'm gonna remember the bucket on a pole trick. Much better than letting a loose shower of bees hit the deck.
+Chuck Smith A lot faster too.
‘Trailer Queen” lolllll!!!
