One mini-con is a quintuple changer. The one that was named Daniel for some reason, packaged with the Shouki repaint of Classics Astrotrain, whose fifth mode is the pantograph wire attachment on a tram or Thunderbirds monorail...
I'd like to see this line revived, but with some major changes. 1. No automated transformations. 2. Minicons are just target masters. 3. No clear plastic 4. Up their size class
I think instead of armour mode for minicons, they should just be able to peg in 5mm hole or something in their altmode (if they have one) or gunmode, maybe some characters should have Bayverse-lile minicons that form a part of altmode for big bot, and i think there should be legends/core class combiners with drones, and maybe deluxes with voyagers that could use some actual bots, like deluxe use core class as limb, voyager use deluxe as limb and core class as armour/gun and etc. Maybe make it compatible with WFC, Legacy and Combiner Wars lines somehow
7:50 This is making me think of a Transformers story where the Rescue Bots were captured and successfully reformatted into Decepticons. But they initially were seen trying to help. Only to reveal their true new nature when they combine and go on a rampage.
I hope he does another one this year, and it's nice that he plans to do Crankcase, wasn't sure if he wanted to do it Edit: The name wasn't Crankcase(even if TJOmega said that) but I don't remember.
*Sitting in my College dorm, Enjoying being a Cybertron Kid* What War? We only have Great Toys! Fu fu fu fu! Vector Prime, another glass of cyber keys please?
To be fair, Leadfoot's one of the good ones in this line. I pair him with the Rallybot drones from Double Clutch. They make a surprisingly good looking team. Good enough to earn a permanent spot on my shelf.
I do too. There neat for what they are. It's not like there supposed to replace the OG teams cause they never will. I really liked how many different alt-modes there are unlike in the modern kids lines where it's like "want 200 cars? Oh or a T.rex or 2."
I still think we can trace the return of the combiner back to TFC's Hercules. It showed you can make full size Transformers that were also combiners. Hasbro had to play catch up with third party.
Excellent review as always. However, perhaps you could lower the volume of the music compared with your voice? The difference in audio levels means that I have to turn up the volume for your main video and lower them for the music as it is much louder than the rest of the video.
Bombshock is really the only one I like in all 3 modes. He's on in a display cabinet. Many of the scout figures are interesting on their own too, and the drones look alright as stand ins for legends scale vehicles I thought... but the fact that these became nothing but statues that'd break apart killed the play aspect greatly for kids.
TJ, depending on how the file was "deleted", it can easily be recoverd & brought back with software like EaseUS's Data Recovery Wizard (I personally use the Pro version, as the Free version lets you recover up to 1GB of data, and I'm often using DRW to recover multi-GB of data in one go). Just remember that if using software such as that to point it to a different drive than the one you're rescuing data from so you don't risk scrambling the data you're trying to recover.
I remember back in 2010 hearing of power core combiners for the first time and being pretty excited about them, then they came out. I'm so happy with the combiner wars toyline.
My introduction to this series was with the protectabots and the sky burst with chopper repaint for Christmas. And I mean, I loves it! To be fair I wasn't a difficult kid to please but still. I liked that they looked like all looked different and didn't match it made it feel like they really were separate robots that happened to be able to combine together into a super mode. And while the minicon didn't work for Darkstream (the jet repaint) I still enjoyed using the minicon in its forms on the protectabots squad and making the leader that much cooler.
Though sadly it will most likely never happen, I always wanted to see an updated Grimstone with a better transformation and limbs that are actual characters, with personalities, robot modes, articulate limbs with actual hands, and names that fit the Dinobot tradition of "single syllable word that starts with S."
This is like the 7th time I watched the whole series, and like the 8th time I watched this episode since it first came out. and I was there during the real combiner wars. and I did pretend I was a car when I was little.
I have Crankcase and the Destrons as well as Icepick's missile rack Mini-Con and the trans yellow engine Mini-Con. I love them all. The two Mini-Cons hold up very well to this day.
The armor mode for the minicons are intended for the combined mode instead of the individual robot modes, that's why every combiner has a peg on there chest
How to fix Steakout(Protectobot leader): 1) buy Icepick 2) use Icepick's minicon as chest armor for Steakout (arms around hips, legs between head & shoulders) bulks up the robot + torso mode by a ton. 3) Get Maketoys' upgrade kit(blue version),use with Steakout for combined mode 4) swap Maketoys' lower arm module for Steakout's jet drone as a flamethrower 5) profit.
If nothing else, this series gave us the novelty of the combining dinobots, even if that's all it was. It'd be fun to see a 3rd party limb replacement for that with less kibble. Also, thanks for this review, I'd purchased Grimstone and Crankcase and I'd been curious about the other figures in the line. This... Satisfied that itch. Thanks for that!
I remember i owned the rescue bots set and that other set that had a semitruck for it's torso. The automorph mechanisms started failing after a month or so of play
I think another huge issue with the line is how they decided to sell everything, the only way to get limbs was with the larger sets. If you had the 5 packs as team buys and then limbs separately sold like hotwheels to make your own combiner with the 2 packs it would have been much better, as you wouldn't have to deal with the broken looking limbs.
I was there. I also do have Combiner Wars toys that I do really like. I have Bruticus, Liokaiser, Victorion and I will soon be getting G2 Superion and G2 Menasor. The last two still need to arrive and will be coming around about the 13th to the 23rd of January
Some of these figures were pretty amazing on their own. However, the combining gimmick is just atrocious. I only kept a few "cores" and I got rid of every single limb drones. ....... Oh, and I DID owned that... _shudder_ ... car PCC team. It took me ages to be able to get rid of the thing. One of the worst TF ever. I'll be patient for you to *crush* this abobination.
I love all the non-repaint two packs. Some of the 5 packs are ok like Grimstone and the Combaticons. I also love all the Combiner Heads (even sometimes use them for the robot head, like Smolder)... shame they were wasted.
Come on...you know you want to let loose on the Rallybots. Let the hate flow through you..... Overall, great video - probably your best PA to date. Kudos for not laying the lumber to all of the PCCs ,and recognizing that there where some redeemable bots in the line.
Is it sad for me to admit that I own almost every figure in this line? TWO of them in the case of that blue car combiner (forgot his name) and I only have that because it was the only way for me to get Heavy Tread. I love it when you just unload on something this poorly thought out.
The weird thing is, my Huffer broke before Caliburst did. The only problem with Caliburst is his knees are loose. Huffer has a broken elbow and the tab holding the legs together is broken.
I was there for power core combiners. Gotta say I actually kinda liked it, if only because combining was so new and awesome for a kid. I only had one team, the protectobots with stakeout. Of course now I have the POTP terrorcons who are infinitely more awesome
There was one bright side for me with Crankcase, I turned him into Motor Master and took a handful of legend class Wreckers from DOTM and made a set of Stunticons that really didn't hold together since I gave Menasor tiny magnets for connection points. I also repainted the Wrecekrs into different NASCAR stock cars than the ones in the movie; the #18 M&M's Camry, the #13 Geico Camry, the #11 FedEx Camry, and the #83 Red Bull Camry. All paint jobs being from the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Season. On another note, TJ if you read this comment; what was your feelings toward the Wreckers being NASCAR stock cars instead of more familiar vehicle modes?
I actually have quite a few of these as a kid. My first one was the combacticons, which in retrospect is one of the better ones, and probably why I ended up getting more of these. As an adult looking back, yeah the auto morph gimmick has problems. However, as a kid I thought it was pretty interesting. I probably can’t be bjective (anyone will like the any toys they had as a kid), but I still believe the 5 pack concept works well as a toy for kids, which was probably its intended audience. I’ve also never seen the ones that really looked bad before, except that shitty car one. I had the unfortune to have that, and I was annoyed by the mild degradation even back then.
Some tanks were equipped with firefighting gear in certain countries. The jet could be there for mass flame extinguishing...or something along those lines.
Years later and this video was just proven right with those Minicons. I purchased Undertow recently from Ebay because the figure looked really fun, I had no interest in the combining feature and just wanted some fun toys I could likely get away with removing the teal pegs from.. Not only was his windscreen for the boat cracked at the hinge, but the Minicon he came with had every hinge cracked, and one of them actually burst into shards in delivery. I paid almost $40 for him, and after seeing that when I opened the box I immediately requested a return and refund which was thankfully successful. I feel so freaking angry about that, as well, because my returning the figure for that Minicon has more than likely condemned that Undertow figure to a garbage bin all because of translucent plastic. Were he cheaper I likely would have kept both of them, maybe even tried to dismantle the Minicon (likely having to clue the limbs together afterwards) and make resin casts out of to make an opaque version of him, but instead because of his price combined with a critical design flaw that's one less Undertow on the market, and I can only imagine these figures will continue to decrease in numbers.
I had a few Power Combiner's and they were awful, I even had that issue with one of bombshock's drone's not staying plugged in all the time, I am so glad that Combiner Wars was such a better line.
Hoooly shit I looked up how these things did price-wise. They all shelfwarmed so hard Walmart couldn't get rid of them fast enough. They had to tape together two-packs with five-packs, label them for ten bucks a bundle, and shove them absolutely everywhere they could manage to fit them.
Another point about Darkstream from this line is that he can't even hold his minicon Razorbeam in axe mode. Darkstream's fist hole is too big for the axe handle and it either flops there awkwardly or just falls straight out. A failure of a line from start to finish with only one or two bright spots- and thats when you ignore the combination gimmick.
hey TJ on your shelf I saw a Rainbow Seeker it looks pretty cool where can I get one what the color scheme like that it has to be shattered glass right? me want

What a good year for TJOmega
+soundwaveprimenerd Plus random reviews :3
It's so good. I saw he started posting again and I re-subscribed for the first time in a long time. He's the only TF reviewer I watch anymore.
He's done toycember 3 back in April as a Spring Break edition, and he does random reviews Monday, Wednesday, and Friday year round :D
But the next year was deathly with no plastic addict
