It's just as Kurapika said himself: He fears that his rage will fade. When he is with his friends, he feels happy and he starts to lose his rage. That's why he pushes them away
No, did you even listen to the guy who made this video? He pushed them away not becuz he thought they will drag him down, it's becuz he fears that they might be put into danger again.
Which is a cool contrast because in theory Kurapika should have nothing to lose, but its really the spiders who def wouldn’t csre who u killed. To bad the ruling majority didnt take into the spiders ideals because ultimately their human. Despite them being self serving they care more about their boss than the spiders.
Tbh I think Kurapika is pretty likeable. That he has any humanity left after his trauma in such an uncaring world as HxH means he must have some strength in his principles beyond vengeance. He's probably my favorite character in the series and this video is greatly appreciated!
u know its like what pain said only ppl who can truly understand peace are the ones who have suffered pain and destruction and same applies to kurapika since he know what it feels to lose most important ppl to him he has come to care for them them even more after losing his clan so its painfully natural for kurapika to care for ppl around him.
and there's also the obvious symbolism in kurapika using chains. sure they trap the spider, but the chain also locks kurapika in this revenge path stopping him from letting it go
For me kurapika uses chains cause he is still chained to the past, not only that but kurapika is still chained to that love he yearns for so...... For me kurapika is not lonely but his emotions are still chained to the past
Kurapika is a great character but I like the way the 1999 version handle him. They did an amazing job at making it seem like he went to depths of hell. Which is something I appreciated mainly after he kills Uvo and puts his hand on his face. Like damnn that was bone chilling and him vomiting after killing him was only in the 99 version lol. Another factor that I appreciate is the way his rage was portray. In the 2011 version he felt very angry sasuke-esque with his mood swings. While in the 99 it was more internal than external.
Agreed completely. inb4 "Sasuke was inspired by Kurapica" yeah but Sasuke is a bad character in the end and we'd rather have less similarities even so. Yeah but 1999 had such an amazing score tho.
I agree, I like him better in 99. That's part of the reason that I used more 99 footage than usual for this one. He seemed much more viscerally emotional in it. They did a terrific job with him.
I really hope that Gon doesn't just show up and try to calm him down again and tell him that revenge isn't the way (I'm sure he did that during the Yorknew arc) cause that would be so hypocritical of Gon say
Space Penguins he would probably say something like “revenge isn’t the way, I learn that myself” and then tell him everything that happens with pitou, since Kurapika doesn’t know, it would be really heart breaking tho...):
Honey Moon It would be heartbreaking But it’s also pretty rich that Gon gets to brutally murder the person that killed someone Gon knew for a few day’s but Kurapika can’t kill the group that heartlessly killed everyone he ever knew
Space Penguins wait, Gon didn’t knew Kite for a few days, both of the manga and the 1999 anime show since the start how Kaito and Gon first met, I think the 2011 adaptation didn’t show it since they didn’t knew they would get that far, you should read the first chapter of the manga, it explains it better
Honey Moon I know the story They originally meet up when Gon was young, but Kite didn’t exactly stick around then they meet again years later and spend a few more days travelling and training before kite is killed, add on a few days for the time Gon thought Kite was still alive and in total that could be rounded up to a month and a half- a full month Revenge is bad, but it shouldn’t be Gon to deliver the message-> Leorio or Melody fill that role perfectly without the hypocrisy angle tacked on that would damage a key moment
I think Kurapika's story is so tragic because as the story progresses, it becomes more and more a story about self-destruction rather than revenge. Every turn he makes he makes sure to choose the path that more quickly leads to his downfall, and he does so almost consciously.
Kurapika: Revenge story done RIGHT! *i mean...if you're not writting the avenger as a Sociopath/Someone unable of feeling Empathy for others, gotta love Togashi's writting!*
@@mandelaominesensei1906 I think he will kill Kaluto since Kalluto is part of the Phantom Troupe. This in turn will send Killua into rage when he finds this out and goes after Kurapika. Kurapika will die either by Killua completely losing it or Kurapika abusing his abilities. Gon finds this out and can't forgive Killua for killing, which he promised not to continue and they become enemies.
Kurapika is one of my favourite characters of all time. I feel the reason he separates himself from the group is because he doesn't want them to suffer like he will during his journey. He knows this path is a hard one, and wouldn't want to bother his friends. And he knows that the more friends he has in this quest means more hatred and regret should they perish for his goal. Perhaps he just thinks that friends could make strategy less precise and wants as much accuracy in his plans as possible. I don't know. I see myself in Kurapika so I probably connected with him more than the average viewer would. Thanks for the great video.
I can see him as a more emotional Kurama, both in ability and personality. I am reminded of how Kurama can and will dispatch enemies who make things personal to the point that even Yusuke is wary. Kurapika is that aspect in spades. The similarities are uncanny but there are minor distinctions. Kurama is a creature of logic, he keeps himself in check even when dealing out cold, calculated beatings borne of personal vendettas; Kurapika is a creature of emotion, keeping cool in the day to day, but unable to keep measured in his personal grudges. Kurama knows how strong his friends are and is willing to let them help. Kurapika is the opposite.
Woah I love this comparison! One of the main reasons I think Kurama operates on logic and Kurapika emotions is the age difference. Kurama is so much older than Kurapika, hence has possibly experienced being more emotional when he was Yoko in Makai. And he probably learned functioning on emotions over logic can be dangerous.
Kurapika is one of my most favourite anime characters, I love him So much and I find him more interesting than anyone in the Hunter x Hunter, I don't care what you or others say, He is one of the best anime characters and will forever be my favourite
"Corruption derived from true obsession is a dark and powerful thing. To be so possessed by a need to reach a goal that one compromises both their morals and how they behave; its an outcome that is uncomfortable at best." -Aleczandxr BRO, that was worded perfectly. You are a very wise person my friend.
Plot made Sasuke not copy 1000 jutsu like Kakashi Yeah but Kurapika as a character was done better imo. I liked Sasuke in the beginning and even emphatized with his decisions even tho they were moronic but you could at least understand where he was coming from...but that was before his showdown with Itachi. After that I feel like Kishimoto shat the bed with Sasuke as a character
I think the key to kurapika's future lies solely in the hands of Gon, killua and leorio. they are the only people who can keep him from falling. I think the change in killua not wanting to kill anymore after being raised an assassin helped kurapika nt wanting to kill anyone either. I think the selfless nature of Gon and his childish innocence coupled with his charisma and high energy helps kurapika remember how important his friends are and that in this dark world there is light and he has light. I think the care that leorio displays for kurapika's life and future especially after learning of leorio's friend that died earlier helps give kurapika hope to be saved from himself and his pain. maybe togashi made these three friends as early as they were introduced and the way they are simply as a means of helping kurapika overcome the pain of losing his home. the parallels between kurapika and killua feeling lost and meeting Gon to have a change of heart and identity helps shape the impression of Gon's importance when kurapika thought the spiders were dead in Yorknew. these are my thoughts though
Who else is waiting for the hxh manga to turn into an anime hoping one day your grandchildren can watch it and they'll you how it was in heaven It's gonna be at least 10 years till next anime episode I'm gonna Ima in the meantime
There's a term for what Kurapika is going through. "The lie your character believes". **We** know Kurapika is lying to himself. **HE** knows he's lying to himself and yet he persists as self-destructive as the lie might be. And that's a key to creating 'well written' characters. Gon has a lie he believes, and it's from that we get the drama of ep 116, but the lie was present even earlier, with lines like Kite's "what would you do if the enemy does show compassion?" or Bisuke's "Gon your perfect nature of yours can be your undoing". Killua had his own lies he believed, and even Leorio can be shown to have some. That's compelling writing. By contrast, not to shit too hard on Bleach but the writing is shit... what lie does Ichigo believe? That he can do everything on his own? Well, ultimately, he can, if he just 'believes in his friends'. The series never punishes him for the lie, there's no real drama because he's **not** lying to himself about anything really. There's no room for character growth. Togashi remarks about this with YYH too. If the series were to continue, could it really do so with Yusuke as the lead? Hiei had more room for dramatic tension than Yusuke did by the end of the series. Yusuke's character arc was pretty damn complete. **manga spoilers below** And if you notice, Gon and Killua are currently not featured. Though hopefully there will be reason for them to come back.
Thank you for reminding us who haven't watched Hunter xHunter 2011 about who Kurapika is. I've only seen the 1998 version in the mid 2000's and have forgotten almost everyhing about it. From what you concluded, Kurapika sounds like the character I'd relate to the most because of all the humanity in his flaws and how he's aware of them. To add more reality to this, he's even struggling with the possibility that obtaining his goals may not bring him the closure he so desires but stubbornly pursues them. I think many of us can relate to his traits thus making him one of the best written characters in anime.
I really do love that Kurapika is obsessive as a character, it very much reminds me of Toguro and I'm really interested to see how he turns out in comparison to his thematic predecessor. I'm wondering whether or not Togashi would actually let him have a heel-turn, normally I'd say no but this is HxH and HxH isn't exactly easy to predict...
Togashi stated in an interview which coincided with the Kurapika backstory that all of the Troupe as well as Kurapika would die. Whether this was a joke or not (it probably was) I myself believe this to be the most likely outcome.
I've heard of that interview too and I find this highly unlikely because Kurapika need to face up the 4th prince of kakin before he die. Actually, I think Tserriednich is much more important to Kurapika's plot arc than the Phanton Troupe.
Togashi already said that he will "slowly hurt" Hisoka...so, yeah, I think the mad clown is the guy who gonna die in this boat...along with the rest of the Phantom Troupe of course... Hisoka is already demaged, and his sutuation just tends to worsen as he struggles against the entire Genei Ryodan by himself.
I honestly think that Kurapika can't go back on his goals unless he has contact with his friends and he won't contact them willingly unless he's done with his goals. So basically, unless he somehow meets with them without prior planning there's no way for him to get better. I must say though, he isn't the character that interests me the most so i haven't given that much mind to his actions/motivations and may have missed something, but like i still hope he can come out of this arc safe, sound and with a healthier mindset.
Yeah, that's a nice summary of his situation. Unless something unforeseen forces his friends into his path, he's going to have troubles. But I think that Leorio and Prince Woble will be key for him.
I would probably prefer the 2011 version any day in general, but the imagery in the 1999 version IMO does a better job at depicting Kurapika's descent.
I can't describe how late this is but I'd very much like to tell Kurapika 😔 *Kurapika, please just see that your goal should be continuing the Kurta bloodline and teaching your native tongue to those that are willing to learn. Increase your clan's number- don't turn the population from 1 to 0*
Another deep and powerful analysis video from the Great Aleczandxr. A lot of anime reviewers can learn something from you. Also I gotta ask, one day, can you make a video about Leorio or other underrated characters in HxH?
Kenneth Njapa, Kurapika is for sure not underrated. He came second in the popularity poll *thrice* (behind Killua all three times). Pika definitely gets the love he deserves from the fans.
Thanks Leorio has been my favorite character ever since his line about his friend not having the "price of his life" but I wasn't sure if there was enough there for an analysis
Ya know its starting to fucking annoy me that you can't avoid any sasuke related comments in Kurapika videos. When people talk, describe and compliment him, Sasuke is still mentioned. I also see comments about Itachi on a lot of Illumi videos and post. People be comparing and always bringing up what in HxH universe reminds them in Naruto, as if HXH got it from Naruto and not the other way around. Today I still see a lot of people call Kurapika the blonde Sasuke. Sasuke also became the poster boy for red eyed clan survivor revenge boy.
Yeah, I was expecting Sasuke comments. It's not unexpected, but I was hoping that my lack of mentioning him would limit them. Ah well, it's the nature of the beast.
Allu Joahsker It's honestly the most annoying sh*t. I'm pretty sure 90% of those comments come from people who haven't seen/read a lick of HxH. Luckily it's been dying down a bit lately. Probably because Naruto's kinda dead.
Thanks for shout out! I wasn't expecting that when I clicked lol. Loved the editing on this one, especially the rain in the beginning and end. You put into words so many feelings I had about Kurapika that I struggled to get out. I mentioned to you how I personally relate to Kurapika and you covered some of the reasons beautifully from 9:50 - 10:43 .
No worries man, that video deserved it! Glad you liked the editing, I tried my best to make this one atmospheric. And that's interesting - I wasn't sure, but I was thinking that part of your connection with the character was due to something like that.
This video was great. I know you said that Kurapika wasn’t very likeable, but he’s probably my favorite character on any media. I’m watching all your hunter x hunter stuff and it’s very insightful and well done.
Thank you. Don’t get me wrong, I like him too and think he’s beautifully written. I wouldn’t have made a video on him if I didn’t. It’s just that based purely on the things he’s done and how he thinks, he’s just not really a likeable guy. Yet I can’t help but like him and wish for his success and fulfillment.
Despite having agreed with almost every word you've said in gon's Morality video, I almost agree with you on nothing here. I don't think that what kurapika's doing is wrong nor that he should stop since "vengeance will not bring closure" even after kurapika destroys the troupe, he will remain someone who fights against evil and would want to protect those who entrust their lives to him. That is very clear when he tells queen oito who didn't trust his motives when he told her to investigate the fourth prince since she thought he was acting out of self interest at the time, to trust him since saving her life is his priority . He does everything he can to prove to her that despite having self interests, he cares for human lives more and would utilize himself in every way to save her and her daughter (much like how melody is trying to help the 10th and 11th princes escape the succession war). This just shows me that kurapika isn't so possessed by hate that he would trample on human lives so this means that he still lives up to his morals and compromises his self interests (when i say self interests, i do so because you guys call it that, but in seeking revenge on the troupe, he is also living up to his morals. It just so happens that as you said, this is both vengeance and justice) But of course he is a much more realistic person that queen oito for instance (when she wanted to save the prince that was being murdered) in realizing that his power alone can't possibly save every innocent person so he tries to act as intelligently as possible in order to save as many lives as possible. Regarding distancing himself from his friends who - as you put it - are good for him,i personally see no problem in that. However i do understand how others can see that as wrong and self destructive of him. I guess trying to shoulder everything by themselves is understandable and kind of typical for characters who seek revenge, but that's not exactly what i am talking about. What i mean is that his relationship with his friends is pretty much realistic and understandable (but that's probably because that's how I view friendship) yeah sure being around gon and the others is great, but he has a goal just as much as gon does in trying to find his dad. Having him part with his friends because of different goals is something that happens to all of us. He cares so much about his friends and he feels that it shouldn't be the responsibility of anyone other than him (since no one could care about his clan more than himself) so he wouldn't want anyone but himself to be hurt in pursuing that path. He can't just shove his problems onto his friends just because they offered to help or because "that's what friends are for". And despite all that, he did accept help from his friends in capturing chrollo, told them about his powers because he trusts them, but refused to take extreme measures such as putting conditions on their hearts because no good friend would ever go this far in accepting help from friends. I would also like to talk about kurapika ignoring leoreo's call because that's something that touches me deeply. I don't think that he was wrong in doing so or at least what i mean is that i don't think he should be called out for it. For me, kurapika at that time wasn't in any position that he could be of any help to his friends. He had his own problems going on and didn't have the capacity to deal with a friend's problem at the moment. That's understandable because in real life, even the closest person to you can stand you up but not because they love ypu or care for you any less, but because they're human too and they too deal with their own problems and have their own circumstances that can't be always compromised in order to be there for their friends. Kurapika isn't the person who "wouldn't care" about what happened to his friends, but i think it's also an aspect of friendship to understand that your friends can't possibly "always" be there for you, because they're human too.
man, kurapika and the spiders were the thing that hooked me up with HxH. I love both the character and the troupe. I am glad to find your chanel. You can put into words what us, the fans, feel, but what we cant always explain. So thank you, and i hope that HxH will return some day.
Wow! What an amazing video. It was nice hearing all you had to say about Kurapika as Kurapika is actually my favorite character of the entire series next to Hisoka. The complexity of this character is quite amazing. In the Yorknew arc when I got to see the side of Kurapika that wanted to achieve his goal, I felt nothing, but pain seeing this character go down this path, after killing Uvogin it definitely hurt to see Kurapika's expression. He is still my favorite character despite the fact that he is the way he is. But that is what made him so endearing for me. I wondered why he did not answer his phone when Leorio called, but I came to the conclusion that is stated in this video that he realizes that being with his friends would save him, but it would obstruct the path that he is taking. All in all Kurapika is a character I grew to like as the series went on, and one that caused most of the heart shattering moments of the series besides Gon and Killua.
Glad you enjoyed the video! He's a super good character despite not really being the most unique guy in the world. So much emotion and gravitas in his actions. Nice to see that you're so invested in him.
UGH I absolutely adore the 2011 version, but the artwork and design of his scenes in the earlier version are unbeatable. Totally reeks of NGE vibes in the best way.
What i'm looking forward the most is how every one is deeply connected in this new arc and in oposite sides. *SPOILERS* Killua will want to protect Kalluto who joined the spider from Kurapika and Hisoka. That may put his life in peril, so even if Illumi does not care about Kalluto, he will want to protect Killua. So with who will Hisoka side and Kurapika side? Will they let one target go? Will Hisoka use this opportunity to fight with Illumi? So many possible outcomes... And i only touched 5 characters.
Caio César okay so first of all i think that Illumi deeply cares about every member of Zoldyck familly expect Alluka since he doesn't consider her one. On the other hand it seems that Killua cares less about Kallu than Illumi does. But yeah if Hisoka kills Kalluto, Zoldycks would want revenge same goes for Kurapica. Sorry for my English I'm Russian
SCREAMS HOW COULD I MISS THIS. i swear, i had my notifications on for this channel sobs. perhaps someone has already pointed this out or mentioned this, but i also like how as the series progresses (i haven't seen the 1999 anime, but at least in the 2011 one), kurapika's… colour palette (?) becomes less and less vibrant, and i guess it really puts an emphasis to how he, uh, marinates in darkness ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ lmao but idk it might just be my eyes fucking with me? but as usual, another great video [insert thumbs up emoji here].
Kurapika was the most pleasantly surprising characters in this series and one whose become a favorite of mine over time. His kindness makes him endlessly endearing to me, especially when compared to other cold, revenge driven characters that I just couldnt find the energy to care about (Sasuke being the primary example). Kurapika is almost parental to the group, responsible and helpful. I jokingly call him the mom friend. Every time he smiles at the kids antics or Leorio being Leorio cements what this character could have and could be and damn. His future is easily the one I'm most interested in of all the characters, (despite Killua being my favorite). When a series gets me to worry about a character as if theyre a real person who I am watching slowly self destruct, thats a lot. Its also somewhat relatable. I know I don't have a whole clan to avenge, but self aware self destruction is something I am very familiar with. Its hard to pull yourself out of, harder than it feels to just keep imploding.
Hi can you do a video of Leorio? Leorio is one of my favourite characters in Hunter X Hunter - I find him sincere, reliable and funny and, perhaps most importantly, realistic. I feel that his goals and concerns in the Hunter world are representative of "the everyday man". For example, he wants to make as much $$ as possible so that he can do the things that he wants to do. To me, that is both realistic and endearing. I would like to know what you think of Leorio, and what you think of his role and place in the world of Hunter X Hunter.
It's been a while since the last HxH related video but i'm glad to see you growing and making some new contents. The comments are not present on these cuz i'm not as invested in those series than in Hxh but the support is still endless from me. Anyway, about the video : My boy Kurapika is a lonely dude. I always loved the YorkNew arc so much due to the aesthetics and to Kurapika's characterization in it. He seeks for revenge so much that it completly swallowed him. His physical and mental health are decreasing day by day BUT just as you said it : He is totally aware of it. He knows who he is, of what he is made of and where he is going. And because of that nature of duality(knowing that what he do is not good but doing it anyway for the sake of his cause) I do believe that in the future Kurapika will suprise us with other traits of his persona. There's just enough room for a happy ending just as a tragic ending for him. As always THANKS A LOT for your work, you've just enlighten my night and i look forward for the next content :) Little question : What are your thoughts on the last 2 chapters ? Do you think Togashi is back to kill them all ? Love to hear your opinion about it !! Mucho Love&Support
Thanks Josh, much appreciate as always! *What are your thoughts on the last 2 chapters ? Do you think Togashi is back to kill them all ? Love to hear your opinion about it !!* I think it's a pretty decent return to the story. I loved chapter 361 for what it revealed about Kurapika's psyche, it was a very nice insight. I suppose his new power itself is cool, but I was more into what it revealed about him. And chapter 362 was a really interesting summary of the many different parties at play. I think the shifting between the perspectives would have worked wonderfully in anime form. But yeah, all in all, some more solid work from Togashi. Here's hoping we see some more Ging/Pariston/Phantom Troupe/Hisoka/Leorio soon!
Thanks a lot for the response as always too :) Completly on the same side about Kurapika and i cannot wait to see how this Game of Thrones will turn out with all of these parties in action. I'd say that i'm lookin more for Leorio and the new Hisoka/Kurapika interactions. Much Love as always mate
Just to mention, your choice of background sounds is absolutely fascinating. Not only you often use music from skyrim, but this time you ended the video with the sounds of Skyrim rain. That's just astounding. I like it very much
Thanks very much for saying so. I definitely put an extra bit of thought into making this video a bit more "atmospheric" through music and sound, to make up for the simpler and less in-depth nature of the subject matter. I'm glad you noticed.
I know that for some people his revenge could seem selfish, and it's probably true because he wanted to feel relief in a sort of way, since they made him suffer that much. But I actually think that he also made it because he thought he couldn't enjoy his life when his people suffered that much. He probably thought that feeling happy and enjoying life after all his clan's suffering would be an insensitive thing for their souls, since he kinda believes in an afterlife like chrollo and he probably thought that their souls would finally stay in peace after him getting revenge for them. I mean it's never stated in the manga but knowing him and his kindness and caring for his friends it's probably like this. I actually have fate in kurapika's journey and I don't think he will have a bad ending. I know that he has both emperor time and chain jail that put his life at risk, but with leorio being on the boat I think that he'll be saved in some way. We already seen kurapika saving his friends instead of getting revenge in Yorknew, so I think that he's not gonna lose himself. I know that you can never know with hunter x hunter, but I have high hopes. Leorio became a doctor because he couldn't save his friend, and I think that he's gonna have an important role in kurapika's safety. We also have wobble who even if they're a child, they are giving to him some kind of happy moments and I think kurapika is really seeing in them himself when he was younger. He lost his brothers and he was left all alone as a child, and wobble unfortunately is destinated to have the same fate if kurapika doesn't save them.
Incredible video, man! Kurapika is such an interesting character, it was nice to hear your take on him. And watching all those clips from the 1999 version only made wonder about how awesome it would be to see you doing a Hunter x Hunter 1999 and 2011 comparison. Please, man, we need it!!
*cries silently * As Kurapika delves further into the darkness of vengeance, my desire to be apart of this story solely to hug him tightly and never let go, strengthens. I was just talking about Kurapika with my best friend yesterday. So, imagine my pleasant suprise at this delicious video. I have to say that out of all the story threads in the series currently, I am most intrigued in seeing how Kurapika's will end. I pray it is on a good note. I cannot handle another character having a revelation that changes them for the better, only for them to die shortly thereafter (I'm looking at you, Meruem). I wonder if Kurapika's quest for vengeance will clash with Hisoka's thirst for revenge. Heck, Togashi could either have them fight or team up. I really don't know. I never do with this freaking series, and I love it. P.S. I really hope this series doesn't end up like the Canterbury Tales.
*As Kurapika delves further into the darkness of vengeance, my desire to be apart of this story solely to hug him tightly and never let go, strengthens.* You and me both, dude. I'm right there with you in thinking that Kurapika's story is the most intriguing at the moment, I just can't help but be drawn in. And like I said in the video, I pray that it's on a good note as well! I can definitely see him clashing with Hisoka though, and I can't imagine how many different ways that could go.
Every time I need a good cry I come back to this video. I would question the kind of person I am to keep doing this to myself, but then, I am the kind of person that decided to watch Hunter x Hunter and then decided that Kurapika was my favorite character, so, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
9:55 "and I'm sure there's a small part in every reader that wants to throttle the guy and force him to just hang out with his pals with hours on end just because of all the good it will do him" SMALL?? This man is my absolute FAVOURITE character of the entire anime and the PAIN the scene of him sitting there as his phone rings and he ignores Leorio HURT.
I am very excited to see the next chapter where Kurapika is potentially put in the situation of encountering the spiders at such a precious moment. I always think about how Kurapika is such a good opposite to Killua’s journey. I think the prince will be an important focus for making his final decision.
My flight's delayed by 20 minutes--- let's watch another Aleczandxr video. This is possibly my favorite one so far. Everything flowed so smoothly, your diction showed noticeable improvement from earlier videos, and every point you made penetrated deep into the soul of this incredible subtle character. A "simpler" video? I'd rather say it's *denser*. I would love to see more videos done like this one. You really made me think, not about any one point in particular, but about Kurapika as a whole. High applause.
Glad you liked it! I didn’t say anything particularly groundbreaking about Kurapika here but I am proud of this one (especially some of the editing directions I took) so I’m glad to see that you liked it too.
Just imagine Kurapika as the final overall mob godfather in hxh, having embraced his will of power and control over the world's darkness Then technically we could have the Zoldick and the Spiders killing eachother because Kurapika could afford the price for those assassination contracts, somehow controlling the Justice upon the spiders without having to kill them with his own hands
To be very honest, I'm kinda scared because I feel like Kurapica is losing himself to vengeance and anger, I mean he's in so much grief and sorrow after his clan got massacred by the Troupe, that he might even sacrifice his own life to kill all of them, I still remember that Togashi stated in an interview that (this could be a joke or the true) all of the Troupe members and Kurapica will die, which I feel is going to happen by the state that Kurapica is in now, but I do hope that now Gon, Killua and Leorio will unite together in the Dark Continent Arc and maybe help Kurapica not lose himself to his vengeance. It will be very heartbreaking thou if Kurapica dies as his one of my favorite characters out there in the anime world and is just a masterpiece created by Togashi, I for one would probably just cry in despair if he does end up dying in the end. Anyways that's just my opinion on Kurapica and the series, amazingly well analysis video on HxH as always Aleczandxr ^ω^
Thank you very much! I think that Kurapika is slowly giving in too, but I do think it's encouraging that he still thinks of his friends during the harder times. I guess we'll have to wait and see!
AJ I read the chapter very long ago but I think the panel about " beast in human clothing " was actually implying Gon. Great video ! "How much of him will be left when he's finished " pretty much sums up what I feel atm . And honestly the editing with the rain in the beginning and at the end was really cool .
Was that really implying Gon? Whoops, guess I shouldn't have relied on memory for that one. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed, and many thanks for the compliments on the editing. I definitely tried to do something a bit different.
I watched myself fade into nothingness unable to do anything. It was my childhood leaving. It's like realizing that you're THE Ship of Theseus. "Anger is like a poison that you drink in anticipation for the other to die."
Wow for some reason this spoke out to certain traits of my personality. Both the narrator of this video and the creator of the series along with all development team are God-Send.
It's very interesting to me how Kurapica seems to grow into a similiar person as Chrollo. I can't Imagine him developing a nen to steal others like Chrollo has is just for the Heck of it.
Honestly yeah Kurapika knows he's destructive he just doesn't care. And it makes total sense that he'd push his friends away, he can't let go of his goal, but he can't let them get hurt because of him. He isn't seeking happiness with his friends, that's not his goal, so for their sake, he cut them out. Is it selfish since they are worried and care about him? Yeah. But is it unreasonable for someone who has lost everything to fear getting close to people and having them die because of him and his self-destructive habits? Nah, I think its very human But yeah I just want him to be happy ;-; but I also.... am not sure if 'letting go' of revenge is the right answer either....
Spoilers!!! - I just finished watching the 2011 anime and I just couldn't stop crying because of how they showed him right before the end. He looks so empty on the inside that he isn't even answering Leorio, who gad such a strong connection with Kurapika, it just killed me. He is my fav character since the beginning and it hurts me so much to see that he lost himself, I really want to see him happy again after he gets all the eyes back
I can actually attest to the fact you mention Alex, because of trauma I suffered I latched onto thoughts of hatred and revenge but yes to be without direction and be single-mindedly possessed by your hatred is difficult to put into words...its like climbing a tall mountain reaching the peak by making real all those twisted maligned thoughts you conjured, and realizing your still empty..at that point without focus you really begin to spiral even further into the darkness than most would ever dare to go
"Not only necessary, but a necessity" .. yeah, my bad.
I had to go back and check this, thought I misheard it xD
Aleczandxr I knew I couldn't have been the only one to notice that, but the rest of the video besides that line was 10/10 like always. 😂👍🏻 Great Work.
Make more hunter x hunter videos. I love you
I highly recommend an anime named "rainbow: nisha rokubou no shichinin" and i would really enjoy watching your analysis of it.
what is your favourite anime? I really want to know.
It's just as Kurapika said himself: He fears that his rage will fade. When he is with his friends, he feels happy and he starts to lose his rage. That's why he pushes them away
No wonder he doesnt answer leorios call, and doesnt keep in touch with his friends. He only talks to people when it comes to scarlet eyes
No, did you even listen to the guy who made this video?
He pushed them away not becuz he thought they will drag him down, it's becuz he fears that they might be put into danger again.
Veronii I think it’s both.
@@anezuka2464 both
Yup I agree, both are the reasons why he pushes them away and keeps his phone as just a decoration ig.

Which is a cool contrast because in theory Kurapika should have nothing to lose, but its really the spiders who def wouldn’t csre who u killed. To bad the ruling majority didnt take into the spiders ideals because ultimately their human. Despite them being self serving they care more about their boss than the spiders.
That's not Kurapika
Be terrified of the madman who brought a shovel...
Robinson Callou funny, he brought a shovel in his fight against Uvogin
Tbh I think Kurapika is pretty likeable. That he has any humanity left after his trauma in such an uncaring world as HxH means he must have some strength in his principles beyond vengeance. He's probably my favorite character in the series and this video is greatly appreciated!
Glad you enjoyed! I find him likeable too but at the same time it's not hard to see why some dislike him.
Also my favorite
Andreas Törnqvist Kurapika is my favorite
Facts! Kurapika and Killua are my favorite!
u know its like what pain said only ppl who can truly understand peace are the ones who have suffered pain and destruction and same applies to kurapika since he know what it feels to lose most important ppl to him he has come to care for them them even more after losing his clan so its painfully natural for kurapika to care for ppl around him.
There was something so endearingly touching about having one of your conclussions be a very simple "I just want him to be happy"
1000th like
and there's also the obvious symbolism in kurapika using chains. sure they trap the spider, but the chain also locks kurapika in this revenge path stopping him from letting it go
Gostei de suas palavras
For me kurapika uses chains cause he is still chained to the past, not only that but kurapika is still chained to that love he yearns for so...... For me kurapika is not lonely but his emotions are still chained to the past

I hate that Kurapika's backstory came straight after the 2011 anime ended because now I have to wait for a long time for the anime to continue.
Kurapikas backstory is animated in the first movie as well. Pretty much the only good thing that came from that movie.
+Koda I have but I prefer to watch it.
“for the anime to continue” ahahahahaha
Pablo360able he sure is a nice comedian
Pablo360able xD nice on☝
Kurapika is a great character but I like the way the 1999 version handle him.
While in the 99 it was more internal than external.
crzyboy190 agreed, '99 did an amazing job with the yorknew arc
Agreed completely. inb4 "Sasuke was inspired by Kurapica" yeah but Sasuke is a bad character in the end and we'd rather have less similarities even so.
Yeah but 1999 had such an amazing score tho.
TheKrigeron Kurapika's 99 score was phenomenal.
I agree, I like him better in 99. That's part of the reason that I used more 99 footage than usual for this one. He seemed much more viscerally emotional in it. They did a terrific job with him.
His 2011 portrayal is still good though
I really hope that Gon doesn't just show up and try to calm him down again and tell him that revenge isn't the way (I'm sure he did that during the Yorknew arc) cause that would be so hypocritical of Gon say
Space Penguins
it would be sad if he did, given his experience
Space Penguins he would probably say something like “revenge isn’t the way, I learn that myself” and then tell him everything that happens with pitou, since Kurapika doesn’t know, it would be really heart breaking tho...):
Honey Moon
It would be heartbreaking
But it’s also pretty rich that Gon gets to brutally murder the person that killed someone Gon knew for a few day’s but Kurapika can’t kill the group that heartlessly killed everyone he ever knew
Honey Moon
I know the story
They originally meet up when Gon was young, but Kite didn’t exactly stick around then they meet again years later and spend a few more days travelling and training before kite is killed, add on a few days for the time Gon thought Kite was still alive and in total that could be rounded up to a month and a half- a full month
Revenge is bad, but it shouldn’t be Gon to deliver the message-> Leorio or Melody fill that role perfectly without the hypocrisy angle tacked on that would damage a key moment
Kurapika is basically a better verison of Sasuke And the fact that kishimoto tried to copy togashi's genius was a fatal mistake.
Basically yes
Everything is better than Sasgay
Sasuke was inspired by Kurapika.
Why shouldn't he be? He came first after all.
rakmal 786 I already know that
I think Kurapika's story is so tragic because as the story progresses, it becomes more and more a story about self-destruction rather than revenge. Every turn he makes he makes sure to choose the path that more quickly leads to his downfall, and he does so almost consciously.
Kurapika is my all time favorite anime character of all time

Given the downside of "Emperor Time" it is starting to become painfully obvious how Kurapika's story is going to end.
@@sindri1447 I think he will die of Emperor Time after killing Kuroro. Leorio, Gon and Killua will find him just before he whould die.
Bruh when ET was on for 9 hours I wanted to fight Oito
;-;
@@MrTVx99 There's no point for Kurapika to kill Kalluto since he didn't participate in the Kurta massacre
No problem at all, thanks for watching. He’s such a resonant character for many of the reasons you’ve said and I really tried to do him justice.
yeah
You know a video is going to be good when it has a word like solitude or duality in the title
Hookemhorns48 Aleczander is super good at coming up with nice titles
Kurapika is like walking in a rope of sanity and if he falls he'll be consumed by revenge
O:
And he’s already losing his balance, he’s about to fall
Kurapika is one of my most favourite anime characters, I love him So much and I find him more interesting than anyone in the Hunter x Hunter, I don't care what you or others say, He is one of the best anime characters and will forever be my favourite

his story character in hxh is more interesting than others

Plot made Sasuke not copy 1000 jutsu like Kakashi Yeah but Kurapika as a character was done better imo. After that I feel like Kishimoto shat the bed with Sasuke as a character

I don't usually use 1999 too much (though I do still use it) but I really wanted to use it for this one because Kurapika is amazing in it.
joaquinlucom123
Me too
I think the key to kurapika's future lies solely in the hands of Gon, killua and leorio. they are the only people who can keep him from falling.

2021 almost 2022 still waiting
**manga spoilers below**
And if you notice, Gon and Killua are currently not featured. Though hopefully there will be reason for them to come back.
that's called denial.
I've never actually compared Kurapika to Toguro, that's really interesting.
Togashi stated in an interview which coincided with the Kurapika backstory that all of the Troupe as well as Kurapika would die. Whether this was a joke or not (it probably was) I myself believe this to be the most likely outcome.
JalekokRespawn I'm a big fan of the phantom tropue, I see them all dieing because of plot, but I hope they kill kurapika too
If I remember correctly, his answer was in reference to what if Kurapika went all out with his revenge plot without his friends to hold him back.
William Queiroz It means Kurapika eventually dying. not specifically anything about dying before the prince or whatever, just dying eventually.
Wow, a RUclipsr who actually pronounces Kurapika correctly? Glad I subbed :D
Just a warning: correct pronunciation is definitely NOT something you should expect from this channel, hahaha.
Literally someone calls him "Kurepeykah"
Koora Pika is one of the WORST ways to pronounce his name
@Suleymen Amanzholtegi forgot lol
I would probably prefer the 2011 version any day in general, but the imagery in the 1999 version IMO does a better job at depicting Kurapika's descent.
Agreed.
I can't describe how late this is but I'd very much like to tell Kurapika 😔
*Kurapika, please just see that your goal should be continuing the Kurta bloodline and teaching your native tongue to those that are willing to learn. Increase your clan's number- don't turn the population from 1 to 0*
Another deep and powerful analysis video from the Great Aleczandxr. A lot of anime reviewers can learn something from you. Also I gotta ask, one day, can you make a video about Leorio or other underrated characters in HxH?
Haha, cheers. Leorio is definitely on my list, as are characters like Morel, Knuckle, Welfin, Pariston, etc. Hopefully they count as underrated.
I really hope this includes Palm!!
Allu Joahsker IKR? Sasuke is way better than Kurapika. Kurapika couldn't scratch him in a fight.
Did this nigga just bring up who was stronger in a comment about who was a better character?
FierceDeityLinkMask STOP.

Just subscribed to your channel, can't wait to see more content. Keep it up!
Kurapika is one of the most powerful character in HxH. Imagine become the first especialist among the four
It just so happens that as you said, this is both vengeance and justice)
But of course he is a much more realistic person that queen oito for instance (when she wanted to save the prince that was being murdered) in realizing that his power alone can't possibly save every innocent person so he tries to act as intelligently as possible in order to save as many lives as possible.
Kurapika is a true avenger because he knows that if hang out with his friends he will eventually forget his hatred
This is why Kurapika is my favorite character i HxH
... also: Melody is best girl
Oh yes
man, kurapika and the spiders were the thing that hooked me up with HxH. I love both the character and the troupe.
I am glad to find your chanel. You can put into words what us, the fans, feel, but what we cant always explain. So thank you, and i hope that HxH will return some day.
"But he just.....can't." How relatable. Excellent analysis! I can't wait to see more :-)
Thank you!
Fun fact in the manga kurapika threw up after killing uvogin.
The one thing i can say while comparing Naruto and HunterxHunter is that Kurapika is Kurapika and Sasuke is Sasuke. There I said it.
Bold claim.
kurapika is now drowning in an indescribable emptiness
UGH I absolutely adore the 2011 version, but the artwork and design of his scenes in the earlier version are unbeatable. Totally reeks of NGE vibes in the best way.
I don’t consider his caring for his friends a weakness, and I don’t think Kurapika considers this a weakness.
4:42 WARN ME BEFORE YOU DO THAT HE'S TOO BEAUTIFUL GAWD
What i'm looking forward the most is how every one is deeply connected in this new arc and in oposite sides.

I don't think Kurapika cares about Kalluto being a Phantom Trope members if he wan't part of the Kuruta massacre and is part of Killua familly
Killua only cares about Alluka. Its hinted that Kalluto hates Alluka because Killua favors her over him.
I come back to this video very often. I think it's one of your best analyses, or at the very least one of my favorites.
Happy to hear that, I enjoy this one too!
@@Aleczandxr Wasn’t this video called The Solitude of Kurapika? Or am I just having a stroke?
Dude please do HxH chapter reviews. Even if you do on like a separate channel or something
Cjay bogle I agree!!
I honestly think I'd be crap at them, haha. I'm very open to discussing them on live streams though.
Aleczandxr yea that'd be cool too
You know I had the same idea but I feel like its not alec style. Even so I would still watch them for sure
Yes, I'm going to eventually do a video on Leorio.
As always THANKS A LOT for your work, you've just enlighten my night and i look forward for the next content :)
Little question : What are your thoughts on the last 2 chapters ? Do you think Togashi is back to kill them all ? Love to hear your opinion about it !!
Mucho Love&Support
Thanks Josh, much appreciate as always!
*What are your thoughts on the last 2 chapters ? Do you think Togashi is back to kill them all ? Love to hear your opinion about it !!*
I think it's a pretty decent return to the story.
Watching this legit made me want to cry
Just to mention, your choice of background sounds is absolutely fascinating. Not only you often use music from skyrim, but this time you ended the video with the sounds of Skyrim rain. That's just astounding. I like it very much
Thanks very much for saying so. I definitely put an extra bit of thought into making this video a bit more "atmospheric" through music and sound, to make up for the simpler and less in-depth nature of the subject matter. I'm glad you noticed.
I hope Togashi continues the series. I really wanna know what will become of Kurapika.
Thnx for the video
i really liked that pic of death note 7:03 when you was talking about justice good job
Thanks.
I just want to give him the hug he deserves 😔
Holy fuck, I was just browsing your hxh videos, I did not expect to be slapped in the face with ronfaure immediately
Emperor Time... It’s a really good ability ONLY if you have more Ability-Slots left.
Imagine you had ONLY Emperor-Time!!
Incredible video, man! Kurapika is such an interesting character, it was nice to hear your take on him.
And watching all those clips from the 1999 version only made wonder about how awesome it would be to see you doing a Hunter x Hunter 1999 and 2011 comparison. Please, man, we need it!!
Not me crying throughout the whole video non stop
Everyone: **explaining what they think about Kurapikas mental health**
Me: Koorta
*cries silently *
As Kurapika delves further into the darkness of vengeance, my desire to be apart of this story solely to hug him tightly and never let go, strengthens.
*As Kurapika delves further into the darkness of vengeance, my desire to be apart of this story solely to hug him tightly and never let go, strengthens.*
You and me both, dude. I'm right there with you in thinking that Kurapika's story is the most intriguing at the moment, I just can't help but be drawn in. And like I said in the video, I pray that it's on a good note as well! I can definitely see him clashing with Hisoka though, and I can't imagine how many different ways that could go.
Another thoughtful video essay that increases my appreciation for one of my favorite series of all time. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Kurapika........ One of the most badass characters in the story. Killua still my favorite still my favorite though.
Wow the dragon age song you play brought be back to 2009.
Every time I need a good cry I come back to this video. I would question the kind of person I am to keep doing this to myself, but then, I am the kind of person that decided to watch Hunter x Hunter and then decided that Kurapika was my favorite character, so, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Youre one of my favorite uploaders on youtube
Awesome, thanks!
9:55 "and I'm sure there's a small part in every reader that wants to throttle the guy and force him to just hang out with his pals with hours on end just because of all the good it will do him" SMALL?? This man is my absolute FAVOURITE character of the entire anime and the PAIN the scene of him sitting there as his phone rings and he ignores Leorio HURT.
fr I adore him so much. I just want him to be happy. favorite character of all time. 😭
Your HxH videos are the best!!! I always watch them all the way through (which is rare for me)
Thanks, glad you enjoy them enough to watch all the way through!
Lonely?!
SOON HE'S GONNA BE KING.
Well, Shadow-Ruler, to be more Precice. The one who controls the Queen of Kakin:
Wobbolobo.
a great way to start the weekend with a video from aleczandxr!
:-)

Hisoka has the best meme faces
do not fear death,
i fear only that my rage will fade overtime.
-kurapika kurta
Just imagine Kurapika as the final overall mob godfather in hxh, having embraced his will of power and control over the world's darkness
Then technically we could have the Zoldick and the Spiders killing eachother because Kurapika could afford the price for those assassination contracts, somehow controlling the Justice upon the spiders without having to kill them with his own hands
In future episodes, I just wish to see the original group reunite and Kurapika getting a happy life.....
Another stellar review and synopsis
"Determination is one hell of a drug"
Wow for some reason this spoke out to certain traits of my personality. Both the narrator of this video and the creator of the series along with all development team are God-Send.
It's very interesting to me how Kurapica seems to grow into a similiar person as Chrollo. I can't Imagine him developing a nen to steal others like Chrollo has is just for the Heck of it.
Ever since the 1999 anime he's always been my favourite
Honestly yeah Kurapika knows he's destructive he just doesn't care. And it makes total sense that he'd push his friends away, he can't let go of his goal, but he can't let them get hurt because of him. He isn't seeking happiness with his friends, that's not his goal, so for their sake, he cut them out. Is it selfish since they are worried and care about him? Yeah. But is it unreasonable for someone who has lost everything to fear getting close to people and having them die because of him and his self-destructive habits? Nah, I think its very human
But yeah I just want him to be happy ;-; but I also.... am not sure if 'letting go' of revenge is the right answer either....
Another great video, thanks for uploading!
Thanks for watching!
Spoilers!!! - I just finished watching the 2011 anime and I just couldn't stop crying because of how they showed him right before the end. He looks so empty on the inside that he isn't even answering Leorio, who gad such a strong connection with Kurapika, it just killed me. He is my fav character since the beginning and it hurts me so much to see that he lost himself, I really want to see him happy again after he gets all the eyes back
Check out the manga! It continues his story
