Lexie is by far one of the best characters in the show
"He's gone. I'm free. Damn it." Ther'es just SO much packed in those words, such great acting by Sandra Oh.
Imagine going through your engagement aware that your partner doesn't really want to get married, ignoring their requests for the wedding that they don't want to go through with, humiliating them by finally acknowledging it right before they walk down the aisle, forcing the wedding to be called off in front of all their friends and family, then straight up skipping town before they can even change clothes without so much as a conversation about what just happened.
That's not love, that's selfishness. He might have loved Christina to begin with, but he forced her into someone she wasn't, then realized she wouldn't be able to provide him with the illusion of his perfect life.
Was him leaving like this best for Christina? Probably, but it certainly wasn't because he was doing it out of love.
Yeah, I think the offscreen drama really impacted their storyline.

I'm so glad Derek's character feels appalling to ppl watching the show now. Back in the 2000's when I was little and my mom was watching the show she'd be like "Oh, Derek is such a sad man, poor cutie😢, him and Meredith are FIGHTING😤 for their love!!!".
No, mom, they're just fighting and because of Derek's foolishness most of the time.
ISTG George and Izzie have more of a sibling vibe than freaking Ross and Monica from FRIENDS.
Well, they wanted Burke's actor gone asap bc apparently he had belittled and used a homosexual slur word towards George's actor. So there's behind the scenes drama they wrote into the show. (From what I remember at least)
I was devastated for her though even though it ultimately was the right decision for her. But going through all of this and losing her eyebrows on top of it and the guy just bolts

And with Burke, I think part of the reason for him calling the wedding off so last minute was also because he didn’t get the chief position (& he was told that that day) and that’s been his goal since - the first episode, I’m pretty sure? But yeah he fully knew before that Christina never wanted a big wedding etc lol

Derek, for me, has always been very selfish, it just doesn't matter what Meredith is going through, he always needs to be at the center, he's always the one going through something, unbearable.

personally my fave seasons are 5-8, seasons 9 and 10 are good too but those seasons i first mentioned are my absolute favourite and i rewatch them often!

I think it's like every season or 2 they add new characters as the new interns and ngl, they are usually really interesting characters to learn about and all that jazz

In my opinion it starts getting really really good around season 5/6, but I cant really remember season 4 lol
these are my favorite seasons as well!! i only watched until s17 but my rewatches usually last until s10 only lol
honestly season 4 is iconic to me just because meredith finally goes to therapy lmao i love the arc with her and her therapist
i thought season 4/5 were slow. i thought one was short cuz of a strike? it also felt dragging. 6 was when we got some new fresh characters that i liked.
You need to put some respect on Adele's name. She's one of the few cast members who won an Emmy for this role. Loretta Devine is a legend.
I mean we all knew chistina didn't want a lot of things and he knew as well the kind of person she is. So wait till she's in a dress. However i saw it coming was always waiting for the other shoe to drop

If you don't know, the actor that plays Burke was let go from the series.
From my knowledge it was because he referred to the George actor (TR) as an F word (a derogatory word for being gay) and there was a lot of animosity on set.
So, I was glad to see Burke go at the time.
Cristina didn't want to get married. You can see the difference between her and Burke, the excitement for the wedding. She didn't care about tbe wedding at all and didn't even want to write her own vows. Burke did the best for Cristina by leaving her at the altar. He loved her for who she was and didn't want her to change for him. He was the only romantic partner in the show that truly loved her.
I respect Burke for letting her go, but I just wish he didn't do the whole wedding drama. It was just so abrupt for him to leave the way he did.
I mean, you can want to be married without caring about a big wedding or writing your own vows. (Not saying she did, but maybe.) I don't think he had much of a conversation with her about that.
Izzie saying "it's not complicated, they swore a vow" when she slept with a married man is so hypocritical lmao. And here we go, the best character has arrived, Lexie Grey !

i do like Derek but i really didn’t get his motivation in this episode, it was crazy given what Meredith had been through. as for Cristina, i think yes she really did love Burke but once the wedding stuff happened she was being stifled to become someone she wasn’t. when she said she was free i felt like it was because she was free of those expectations but she also broke down because she did truly love and want to be with her, the way they were before they were heading down the aisle.

I never liked Derek.
I liked him in season 1 until Addison entered and we found out he was freakin married. Then it turned into a slow burn on the way towards intense dislike. I wish Meredith stayed with the vet.
7:55 All of your criticisms of the characters, from Derrick to Burke to Callie to George, are really criticisms of the writing. 22:24 The worst storyline in the history of the show was Izzy claiming that she was in love with George. 34:39 Because Christina's last line was, I'm free, then Burke did the right thing by letting her go. Most people see this storyline from Christina's point of view, but the way I see it is, who wants to marry someone when in their heart of hearts don't want to get married? The real reason why Burke and Christina didn't get married was, the actor who played Burke said a homophobic slur toward a fellow cast member and was fired from the show, but in terms of how he was written out of the show, the writers and the actor remained true to Burke's character.
cristina did love him, she loved him too much to the point that she gave herself up for him.
shes saying i'm free not because she didnt love him but because, like derek, she couldve never ended it herself, even if she realised what it was doing to her she was too much in love to ever end it, he essentially "freed" her by ending things but at the same time obviously shes heartbroken because of her love

Derek is such a dick. But it all comes down to his insecurities about Meredith not committing long term to him. I agree that he needs to think about what Meredith has been through this year. He is not helping. He's adding to the stress.
Burke is right about Cristina not wanting the marriage. It's not just about her not wanting the wedding. I also think he got the ick with her doing everything his mother wanted. He loves the original Cristina that fights back. I think if the actor wasn't a homophobic weirdo, we would've seen them spin the block again. But nope he was fired and we got that stupid "I'm free" line because Isiah used to terrorize them on set so they had Yang interpret it on the show. In my eyes he will always be her better love interest.
Hate the Alex, George, and Izzie storylines. But I am laughing about George failing. That karma comes quick.
Alex continues to rise as a better character while Derek continues to plummet. I HATE Derek so damn much.
seasons 3 and 4 are some of the weakest for me, I'm really looking forward to seasons 5-10

I dont think Grey's is a show for you i am gonna be honest. You don't seem to get the subtle or more complex emotional journey of the characters ... And considering what happens next, you will get more frustrated...
