      @@EckhartsLadder I haven't gotten around to getting that one yet. Only new books I've read so far is the new Thrawn trilogy, as the original one is my favorite of the EU alongside Darth Plagueis. I would also like to errata my original comment to state only the first Acclamator, as the Acclamator II is an insult to its predecessor.

    • @casbot71
      @casbot71 2 года назад +27

      The one minor issue I have with the Acclimator is that it has a holographic bridge that doesn't need windows… but they still put it out exposed on top of a pylon, when it could have been buried deep inside the main hull of the ship.
      If I had one, I would get the bridge module relocated inside, the slight loss of internal capacity would be worth it. And the area where the bridge previously was mounted could be used for weapons turrets and/or other useful external modules - but turbolasers with a 360° arc would be perfect for the top.
      As a added bonus it drastically reduces the height profile of the ship, which may benifit the shields and will definately be useful should the Acclimator have to flip sideways to squeeze through a narrow …[okay] moderately wide gap… to avoid pursuit.
      And just with parking.

      @@tetraxis3011 I mean... it's kind of in the spirit of the OT... it's the same exact reason why the Empire sucks at catching the Millennium Falcon in ESB, or why Vader wasn't very good at catching the rebels and whatnot; no matter how hard he tried, they almost always escaped his grasp.
      But hey, at least Thrawn almost completely decimated their fleet. I think there was only about four or five ships that escaped the battle over Atollon; that's only about four or five ships out of the thirty or forty cruisers, medical frigates and blockade runners that made up the entirety of their rebel fleet. And those four or five ships only escaped due to the Mandalorian fighters that attacked the Imperial Interdictor cruisers from behind. (And due to the incompetence of a couple of the Imperials.)

    Weird fave for me was the inclusion of transports in rebel fleets. I always saw them as acting as logistical support craft carrying fuel and supplies for ships. Given that the rebellion is a borderline nomadic army with few ports that they could safely use it made sense that they would need more logictistical supply haulers with them since they may not dock for a long time; in addition it made some sense too that the empire didn't need these as much since they had most of the galaxy and its shipyards available to resupply and dock at. I thought it was a neat, if likely unintentional, bit of world building.

    One of my favorite ships and easily one of the best ships in Star Wars(in my opinion of course) is the Arquitens-Class Light Cruiser.
    **WALL OF WORDS INCOMING! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED**
    A beautiful classic from the Clone Wars this light cruiser is easily one of the most useful and well-designed cruiser in Star Wars history. Featuring four twin-light turbolaser turrets, four twin-heavy laser side-turrets and four warhead launchers capable of launching a wide-array of torpedoes and missiles, the Arquitens possessed not only great firepower but also great versatility and a near 360 degree field of fire. The side turrets we're also capable of moving forward and stick out from the sides giving them the ability to fire in-front and behind the ship, giving the Arquitens the ability to fire forward with all eight turrets to bear. This ship is also one of the very few Republic ships to be kept in-service by the Empire, and although initial Imperial variants are simply regular Republic Arquitens repainted in the iconic Imperial light gray, major changes we're seen on later production models. The most noticeable change is the removable of the four side-turrets. To compensate for the removal of the side turrets, the four twin-light turbolaser cannon turrets we're replaced with quad-laser turrets which possessed both twin-light laser cannons and twin-heavy laser cannons, an unusual feature but a genius one as this meant that all the turrets are capable of effectively engaging both starfighters and capital ships without much compromise. The ability to dock three TIE-series starfighters or one shuttle on the ship's forward cavity we're also added. Some Arquitens we're retrofitted with four hangar bays, which are basically the repurposed turret housings of the previously removed side-turrets. Each hangar are capable of effectively supporting three starfighters which meant that the Arquitens became less reliant on Gozanti-class and Quasar Fire-class carriers as it can now carry it's own squadron of fifteen starfighters. An even fewer amount of Arquitens we're also used as assault ships thanks to their capability of carrying large amounts of troops and deploy all of them in the ship's forward cavity. Assault ship variants we're also retrofitted with landing gear much like the ones in the Acclimator-Class Assault Ship which made loading and unloading troops far easier, faster and safer. And most importantly, Arquitens-class light cruisers are relatively cheap, this ship is 1/5 the size of an Imperial-Class Star Destroyer but at only 4,000,000 credits to produce each this meant that this light cruiser is 38 times cheaper than the Imperial-Class which took 150,000,000 credits to produce. Of course this ship isn't perfect, the three massive engines not only made easy targets but also made blind spots if an enemy ship we're directly behind the Arquitens. This light cruiser also featured relatively thin armor plating for it's size, the designers compensated by giving this ship powerful shields but also overlapping layers of shields and a relatively small shield bubble size to prevent starfighters from just flying right through the shields but should anything get through or the shields be destroyed, this made the ship a big fat target as it's thin armor plating and highly volatile magazines turned the ship into a powder keg only one torpedo away from a catastrophic explosion. Imperial Arquitens-Class Light Cruisers also received Palpatine's nonsense treatment and the crew size went from a modest 100 crew members to a staggering 850 crew members, a testament not on the ship's technological superiority and requirements, but rather Palpatine's goal to put as much people into the military as possible, he solved unemployment and his need for more military personnel by simply overkilling it with his ship's crew requirements. This ridiculous crew compliment also meant that operating the ship with a skeleton crew is a monumental task, a major flaw during the collapse of the Empire, as Imperial Remnant forces no longer had enough manpower to crew their capital ships, let alone logistics to keep them running.

    The gladiator to me, because I play Star Wars Armada, will always be the get in close and personal to riddle your enemy with torpedoes and turbolasers. Rather than what it might be in other media, the gladiator isn't a dedicated carrier/coordination vessel, and it usually played as a front line fighter, something to be feared. Nice to see that it has other uses that the game can't represent.

In Elite the Asp Explorer can be built to do almost anything in the game, be it deep space exploration, trading, bounty hunting, etc. The VCX-100 seems to also have that "swiss army knife" mentality to it.

    Ever since I saw them, I've loved the Venator. It is a carrier and command ship with enough firepower to defend itself from small capital ships and fighters. With its full compliment of fighters, it could do more than just defend and can seriously do some damage to a small fleet, if not win. And if the captain doesn't want to have a ton of fighters on board, they can easily use the hangar for extra cargo space. Or maybe set up different facilities in those spaces. Plus the arrowhead shape is always a cool look. I think one thing I don't like about it is how high the twin bridges are raised above the ship. Even if it may grant a better field of view of the battle, it also makes a really easy target to cripple the ship once the shields are down.
    If I could, I'd also add Kom'rk (Gauntlet) class fighter/transports to the compliment. On top of the two primary cannons, it comes equipped with rear-facing guns to defend its tail. Plus if you have jet troopers or something alike, you can deploy them in midair like the Death Watch did when they assailed one location after another while still functioning in an interceptor/air support capacity. That said I'd mostly add this because I love Mandalorian designs for ships and armor. Yes I am a Mando fanboy lol.

    My favorite ship in Star Wars is one of your least favorites, the Rogue Shadow. The design might not be practical but I absolutely love it. It’s such an awesome design, especially with its somehow sleek AND scrap metal look to it. Now that’s a hard combo to pull off. Also asymmetrical for the win! The first Force Unleashed had a really unique art style that’s not talked about much. Almost like a perfect combo between the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy while also introducing its own style to the mix. (By the way the Venator is by far my favorite capital ship. And unlike it’s Imperial replacement it doesn’t have ridiculously easy to spot weaknesses like the deflector shield generator domes on said ISDs. And Anakin somehow made it even better with an extraordinary addition to the Venator line of ships. The heavy turbolaser on the bottom of the ship. That thing is SO powerful.)

    For me, if I could command a vessel from Star Wars, for civilian or military, it would have to be a heavily modified Consular-class cruiser, slightly larger then the retrofit, far more streamlined, and again, heavily modified. Have both Corellia and some Mon Cal design it (you know, two people that you'd want to build you a star ship). Have it with a buoyant hull, with the possibility of submerging somewhat as that would be a great way to evade someone chasing you or laying in wait to ambush.
    The length would have to probably be around 180-200 meters, compared to the retrofit being around 155 meters, with the sides being extended for extend crew and cargo, so probably 60 meters. The bow of the vessel more rounded, have the hull serve as a composite of armor and each panel has an underlined layer that can serve communications and sensors (for those laughing or doubting that can be done at all for whatever reason, I will remind you this is a universe where 'space wizards' exist so your counterpoint, as far as I'm concerned, is void) but also, that should lower maintenance cost with fewer pieces to worry about or could be damaged. A medical bay staffed with Kaminoan's, and pieces taken from other aquatic, land and aerial (which includes space) vehicles and vessels. That goes as followed;
    The equipment will be taken from multiple flight craft and land, being life support, power, weapons, storage, lift, thrusters for advanced maneuvering and artificial gravity. Communications from these vehicles are excluded as my vessel already had good communications and sensor arrangement, again bringing down maintenance cost. Also, any astromechs and/or mouse droids would be added as both are so damn useful. To keep this as short as possible, I will stick to Republic and Clone wars era vessels.
    The space craft I'm thinking of taking and adding to mine are;
    ARC-170's heavy weapon system installed into a turret.
    BTL Y-wings bombing and proton torpedo racks and ion cannon (again placed onto a small turret).
    Essentially all the fighter craft of the republic for their weapons systems, mostly, but again also other equipment, like their life support, power sources, but not back thrusters which I will explain why at the end of this.
    Other craft would be the LAAT and the CSS-1 mostly for the internal space.
    Land vehicles would have to be the AT-TE and SPHA-T.
    Again, these would be 'bits' of each vehicle, that will equal the length of my vessel, by width not length, so say and ARC-170 is lined up noise to end, instead of wingtip to wingtip, for maximum advantage, while keeping a far lower cost and required crew.....so maybe '40' AT-TE's, as their width was only around 5 meters, but only '3' SPHA as I can't find their width, but can find their length at 140 meters.
    Again, remove the weapons from these vessels and vehicles, have them placed onto turrets with crew safely inside the ship, sitting in a ball that has screens, then install all directional cameras and have the screens give a 360+ degree view of the outside battle, this will be far safer then an outside turret bubble. For the pieces ripped out of the fighters, concussion missiles will also be a factor, giving for a far more deadly turret operator, each being assisted by an astromech and mouse droid for small maintenance duties or outside repairs so to reduce the danger levels to the biological crew. Ion cannons can be called upon to stop small enemy craft, or point defense systems, the anti-personnel weapons and laser dish from the AT-TE are along the bottom for ground missions. The main turret of the AT-TE are on top and below for troop support, landed will serve as artillery support with the assistance of a low atmospheric drone that will hover above and help target entrenched enemies, placed along the sides, and bow for stronger support on that end of the vessel, the smaller turrets of the AT-TE will be placed on the sides of the turrets for greater defense. The primary weapon system of the SPHA is a forward facing weapon due to its size, but as a majority of the body for all of these craft have been separated, mechanical legs, much of the wiring, and so on, saving energy, that can be added to the beam for a stronger weapon and shield piercing.
    The power plant will be elongated and center of the vessel for better electric flow and reduces energy loss, but in segments. If one section is hit, it will not effect much of the vessel, as well, it is basically all power plants of the vessels and Charger combined into one, with the shield generator surrounding it for even layering, which is why the CSS-1 is needed as it had unusually strong shields for a civilian transport ship, but the shielding could also protect the crew from any breaches in one or more segments of the elongated reactor, again which is why mouse droids would come in handy as they are small enough to travel tunnels placed inside for inspections that could help with maintaining the reactor or finding any damages.
    As each reactor has less to deal with now, as the majority of the bulk they were meant for is removed, there could be more power reserved, which could allow for equipment to be boosted without fear of wasting energy, and allowing the reactor to operate on a lower setting, extending its service life.
    The combined life support is also on a redundant so to give an even flow, reducing its required energy use and again, in segments so if one section is damaged, it will not effect the whole.
    The back engines will be curved inward, segmented, similar looking to the Millennium Falcons engines, and far better protected, with the back defense having a better line of sight without the rounded engines getting in the way, as the power source now has reserved energy that is not going elsewhere, it can be placed into the engines for more speed, at a lower operating cost.
    Other equipment would be a small refinery and smelter for manufacturing emplacement parts, I can see the front SPHA laser having a secondary use and being used to melt rocks in space and tractor beams leading the materials into a special chamber of the ship.
    Artificial gravity would be needed and slightly doubled for those from lower gravity worlds, this would help keep some people in shape, which is needed in a military, or just space travel in general.
    The crew can be still 9, with much of the armament having an 'automated' feature, but with the space of the CSS-1, could hold around 200, making this vessel a mobile barrack, with space to spare for a cargo transport in times of peace.

At that point it depends on how many of those they carry, out of 1200 stormtroopers (two battalions) , i would assume they have lift capacity to deploy at least one battalion at a time, so 800 or so divided probably by 75 (conservative side says they use the Sentinel landing craft, most bang for the buck) so at least 10 of those and probably a half dozen or so Lambda's. Napkin math say you'd fit about another 60-70 TIE/LN into that space. Note: I don't think I've ever actually seen imperial doctrine for conducting a ground assault from orbit written down anywhere, so my shuttle requirements could be either conservative (full lift capacity for both battalions) or exaggerated (perhaps they lift by half battalion), I've simply based it upon them being able to lift a coherent combat formation in one go.

    Of the ships listed in this video, I'd choose the "Ghost."
    Mr. EckhartsLadder, you mentioned the "Gladiator " class Star Destroyer possibly serving as the center of small fleet formations, as well as observing that "Gladiators" resembling aircraft carriers. That inspired a bizarre question that perhaps you or anyone else might speculate to answer, but in order to answer you need to have a sufficient knowledge of Star Wars spacecraft plus be sufficiently familiar with all the ships present during the WWII, Pacific Campaign: Battle of Samar (Leyte Gulf.) In particular, the ships of Taffy 3 and the ships of IJN's Center Force (Center Force that remained when first engaging Taffy 3.) If you were to take Star Wars ships and overlay them, so to speak, on the ships present at that historical battle, which ships do you think would match up as a "counterpart"?

    I really like these kind of videos, just a little rambling about stuff you like. My personal favorites are probably the super capitals designed by Fractal Sponge, they are large, unwieldy and probably impractical, but damn they look awesome.

    One of my personal favourites is the ARC-170, just everything about it screams aggressiveness and just general kick ass, the massive underslung cannons, the 2 massive engines, the S-foils and the 3 man crew with the tail gunner, I don’t know but when I saw this ship for the first time in revenge of the sith I instantly fell in love with it

    I have a soft spot for the Onager-class Star Destroyer, the idea of a massive space crossbow is kinda funny at first, but pretty clever when you think about what it's used for.
    The Secutor-class Star Destroyer is also a favorite of mine, it is to the Venator what the Executor was to the ISD, and it looks like if a Venator was hybridized with an Executor

    Being a fan of Vitiate's Sith empire, I will now and forever always love the Harrower-class dreadnought. It's got everything you want in a capital ship - more hangar space, more shield generators, and a fortified bridge.

    The thing about the Falcon that you just don't see anywhere else is her sublight drive, that blue ribbon in the back. Every other ship has boring rocket engines, but that full-hull propulsion system is so much more interesting. And I've never found out why it is that no other ship seems to have anything like it.

    While listing all my favorites would take forever I’ll just say one I’ve always appreciated, even if images for and information on it is scarce.
    The StarScape Class Yacht, aka G0-T0’s flagship yacht. I just love the design. Classy, stealthy, and yet… well defended vessel. It’s no warship, but it doesn’t have to be one to be cool.

    There are several Sith vessels that I really like. I actually find that, properly manned and utilized, I like the Imperial ships more.

    One of my favourites is the Ravager/Centurion class battlecruiser from KOTOR 2. I wish we'd gotten to see it undamaged and I love the way it modifys the traditional star destroyer look. Lore-wise I love the idea that the Old Republic started building 'eviler' looking ships like this and the Interdictor as they fought the Mandalorians.

    Referencing and respecting the Wraith Squadron books in 2022? A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. I will never get over the Wraiths turning one of those corvettes into a pocket-sized carrier! 😆

    the X-wing i know is a classic iconic ship that i just love. the sound the engine makes and the wing actuators when it goes to attack mode. the fact that you jump multiple times. The armament for such a small craft. it has shields, hyperdrive, and an astromech. what an amazing ship.

      As much as I love the X-wing I am a huge fan of the Y-wing. Such a versatile ship. Everything from recon to bombing to starfighter. Plus it can take more punishment than an X-wing and it had ion cannons too. If only you could fire both proton torpedoes and concussion missiles...well with the mini ones on an A-wing you likely can.

    I'm going to pull something from the fandom and say one of my fav ships in recent memory is the Imperial Nebulon-B Frigate by EC Henry. There's just something about it that sings to me.
    On a lesser scale, however, I've always been a fan of the Consular-class Cruiser. But for a ship I'd use personally? That credit goes to the X-70B Phantom-class prototype.
    I mean, what's not to like? It's sophisticated, has luxuries akin to a Nabooian vessel, packs a punch, and it has a section with wooden flooring. WOODEN FLOORING. Now that's style!
