Watkins could have moved himself into the prime position when Kane is no longer up to it ( perhaps sooner than he realises it - new manager ) but Watkins didn't grab the opportunity he should have scored if he realised " just " lift the ball and Goal - and yes bh I would have netted that opportunity in that situation - .

Italy 2006 was WAY better than England. Comparing them to Greece et Al is just ignorance. In terms of talent and performance. Semi against Germany. The final against a very strong France was a stalemate. Smacked Ukraine. Beat a talented Czech team and an unknown physical Ghana. Won 5/7. Came from behind in a final.

Toni performed a holding up role really well but he wasn't in my list similar to Giroud in 2018. Del Piero may not have started but was a better footballer than Foden, Saka, Kane et al.
Also as for France being the best. Did you see them scrape through the groups. Lucky they played a limited minnow in Togo la. Difference between them and Portugal was a penalty.
Also Italy v Germany 2006 is an all time classic between 2 high quality teams. England are never beating a strong big nation in their own backyard in a knockout game.

Those are England's "top' players. You're not getting an all white or all black top class 11. France would get closest to an elite 11 of all blacks.
Plus you have to understand, the introduction of athletically superior black players has forced the hands of coaches so now only those white players who are good enough and FIT enough can make it.
