Just need to make it through to the offseason. Sad state of affairs to be in with this team but it is what it is. Looking forward to Mara cleaning house and starting over…….again……sigh.
Brother, it's not even to week 2 yet. Coming off last year to plan for the draft in week 2, Mara will go scorched earth for sure. Mara would clean house and fire the best GM/HC team he has had since Accorsi signed TC in 04. So far IMO the Schoen/Daboll has been a run of W process with L results, which is all you can ask for as fans. Eventually you need things to align for them as far as a QB worthy of drafting falls into their lap or a FA capable of bringing them to the playoffs signs short term until they can draft one. AlI can hope is Mara accepts that Jones was HIS BABY, not Schoen or Dabolls, and lets them bring in their own. After the Philly game and reports of 40m were leaked I thought it was a joke, as good as he looked in Minny theres really nothing else you can point to that justified 40m for him, but at the same time felt like there was no way off that season you could let him walk either. Even if chances were slim, you had to know for sure if he could continue to build off the improvements he made that year and each year prior. Finding a FQB is hard enough but there is an added layer of difficulty in some markets like here in NY, something fresh on Mara's mind as all we heard all summer was Zach Wilson boned his moms friend and now the Jets are super bowl favorites. The spotlight was too much for Wilson, clearly, and they were going to turn to FA. You know what QB had proven immune to the city, a leader who will never embarrass the org and just came off his best year? Yep. Do you know who else needed a QB and has more money than sense? WFT. In Mara's mind, he had just endured 4 years of bad football, BUT it was all worth it because the QB persevered and came out a better player. So when the GM says "Mr Mara, I think 30m is our limit" but Jones rep says "we want 40m" he wasnt going to let that 10m in an era where salary cap is a suggestion more than anything be the reason he just molded and developed a FQB for either his cross town rival or worse division rivals with unlimited funds. He didn't want to risk FA, so he caved. Schoen didn't cave, he knew the risks, which is why the GTD$ makes it a 2 year deal, Mara caved. All we can hope is Mara is wise enough to see his mistake, realize the GM he hired had already put guardrails in place against the decision because he is good at his job and allow him to make the next decision at QB. Because if he doesn't and fires either Schoen or Daboll, it means that as long as he is the end of the line on decisions, the Giants will never be successful again.
@@mtndewit I like Schoen’s approach to his process but the results and fit have not worked. That includes his personnel department. His first draft was a bust. Kevon is fine but his effort at times is just not what it needs to be. He needs to play like he did against the Jets last season, every game. It’s in there but it’s more miss than hit. Wandale is fine but a 2nd rounder? The Waller trade blew up in his face. Why trade for a 30 year old injury prone TE? His second draft should yield a good center and a solid #2 corner in Banks. That’s it. I do like this year’s draft class. I think he did well there. The D. J. Contact extension is inexcusable. I wanted D. J. back. I did not mind the extension price but how the hell did Schoen and Daboll miss evaluate his ability? How does that happen? The narrative coming out out of the 2022 season, is Jones can now progress beyond the quick game and generate more explosive plays. He can’t do it. He processing is too slow to pull the trigger and his confidence is absolutely shot. My question is, how does a GM miss that?
@xeno1121 i disagree on the drafts but theres no denying it has been the worst aspect of Schoens tenure as GM. Not trying at all to condescend, but did you watch HardKnocks and see how much Schoen delegates to his staff? That was something he couldn't do with 2022 draft and instead went entirely off the big board that he had as Asst GM in Buffalo. He fired the entire scouting staff right after and drafts seem to have improved in the last 2. Even still, if KT and Neal were literally 1.1 and 1.2 on the Cowboys big board, a team with a much better success rate developing both of those positions how much falls on Schoen vs Bobby Johnson/OL coaching for Neal and Wilkins brothers (because they refused to let the OLB take ANY REPS with Patterson, a dereliction of duty IMO to not use one of the best positon coaches because of fragile ego is insane and should have cost wink his job sooner imo) with KT? He will determine if its an okay or less than avg draft but even still they took Wandale who is a nice piece, Bellinger had a great rookie year and a solid TE2, McFadden a limited but effective LB if used properly and Davidson a massive 2 gapping DT. The misses were again all on the OL, seemingly, so who is truly the blame? Through the preseason and week 1 it looks like Bobby Johnson was by far the biggest reason the OL suffered. He made picks like JMS worse over the year and did nothing to help rookies like Neal/Ezeudu. (mckethan was a purely upside gamble which in RD5 is okay given his ridiculous measureables IMO) Worse than that the only FA money of significance they spent that first year was on Glowinski, who immediately took a huge step back under Johnson. Then guys like Feliciano leave the Giants and become pro bowl level OL and the most obvious example was Tyre Phillips developing better technique during a 6 week stint on the Eagles PS than he showed in 1.5 years with Johnson. To me the answer is obvious that Johnson could not teach to save his life, thats not a Schoen problem but is hopefully fixed. The reason they traded for Waller is obvious given the context. They felt like the biggest thing holding DJ back was the lack of a WR1 and since they don't grow on trees and cost minimum a 1st RD pick and then some, Schoen got creative and used a 3rd to pick up Waller to be a number 1 option from the TE role. Was it risky? For sure, but you make that move 10/10 times in that spot. They got the 3rd from trading Toney, something he doesn't get enough credit for pulling the trigger on early. All the talk in KC about "the giants fucked up, what were they thinking" and a year later he is cut due to being a knucklehead and may never play in another game if he doesn't wise up. Waller came with injury risk for sure, but when he was on the field he was every bit that WR1 they were looking for and it only cost a 3rd. It ended up not working, but Schoen couldn't have predicted that he would get divorced immediately and decide to retire. He was giving Jones that big target over the middle and putting up good yards before the hamstring and then it fell apart. Schoen needs to be better but to me if the process is sound the results themselves shouldn't matter nearly as much because, over time, with a sound process you will win.
Baker Mayfield vs Daniel Jones has never been a contest. Jones lacks arm talent for a starter. Jayden Daniels is our Daniel Jones. Can win with his feet but lacks arm talent.
Fugazi. 5 top 100 picks in the 2024 draft. 91 million in cap space. 37-20. The last 6 points were 55 seconds of garbage putting your rookie franchise QB in harms way. They looked terrible. Jayden Daniels is a one read run QB. He constantly abandoned receivers. The defensive free agents did not show up. Losing Curl and Fuller hurt. Essentially, defense is worse than last years. Mike Sainristill is tiny and slow. Waste of a 2nd round pick. Another waste if a 2nd round pick was Ben Sinnott who was a healthy scratch against the Bucs. Luke Mccaffrey has a brother named Christian. Waste of a 3rd round pick. He's injury prone. Their high 2nd rounder Newton has had multiple surgeries. Sucks in run defense so who cares.
Rated Armstrong brought the goods once again! Def one of my fave guests on the show. Thanks for the high quality preview men

Aside from Ekeker, Bates looked good this preseason. Faster and in better shape.
Austin Ekeler was one of the few free agents who looked good in preseason. Ertz is slow as molasses.
Kliff needs big receivers who can block. Receiver potential is optional. Jahan Dotson can be a scoring machine. He'll be a Chief or Seahawk next year.
Giants need to realize the majority of Jayden Daniels success at LSU is on their roster.
There is a reason Biadasz got away from the Cowboys. He's a lower tier center although better than Nick Gates.
worried about the rookie dbs are gonna bite on something and ekelers gonna take a 15 yd pass over their heads
Pressure to sack ratio of 30 his first year at LSU. LSU coaches protected him last year. Still bad.
No push at all against Tampa.
Baker Mayfield vs Daniel Jones has never been a contest. Jones lacks arm talent for a starter. Jayden Daniels is our Daniel Jones. Can win with his feet but lacks arm talent.
Emmanuel Forbes is out.
