Hadn't spotted this video until now, but I've literally just fitted the same dashcam to mine! I've wired it into the battery via the rear fuse panel as I used the hardwiring kit (I'll be fitting a secondary battery there so it can run for longer). Have had the older Viofo HD camera in another vehicle for a few years and it's been rock solid! Great vid Sam!
Hey, nice video and respect for doing a hardwire install yourself. I ended up buying 2x the front units to try and get 4K front and rear, but not sure how successful or possible it's going to be getting it all set up, and does mean I'll have to access front and rear individually by wifi / sd card as opposed to being all in one. I may make it into two 2 channel kits instead. The quality of the front camera is a little worse (24fps and lower bitrate) if you run 3 channel mode as opposed to 30 fps and capable of running higher bitrates, but depends on your own use case. One thing to note is I don't know if you're in the UK, but assumed you were until I saw the footage with foreign roads and plates based on your voice haha. There's a UK site/suppliers for buying the Viofo cameras, but the 2 channel front+rear was out of stock and there was only two 1ch left, and I took the last two 😅. They'll probably have a restock soon if they haven't yet as my order was a week ago, but just wanted to mention that site which means people can get the cameras faster in the UK without import worries and also the promo code should work on there as I used Ashley Neal's (driving tuition) as he did a sponsored review / unboding himself a couple weeks ago. Also make sure you either heart or thumbs up (heart is more consistent at giving notifications) to give a notification when you reply to someone's comment, otherwise they may not remember to come back or think you've acknowledged them :D
Cheers for the comment. I’m in Ireland, but yes originally a Brit 😉. Thanks for the tip about the distributor, will see if I can find it and post a link.
@@SamsMotors hi I went for the exact one you fitted with all the additional have two huskies so will fit the internal cabin camera in the rear as opposed to your front windscreen fit just so with the app we can see what they are doing on a journey so got two rear fit cable kits .. also did the LED kit as per your previous video and today fitting the smoked tailgate spoiler brake light also from your videos great Chanel keep up th amazing vids and thank you ✌🙏
On my non HDR cams I’ve had over the years I’ve set the forward cam downward more than yours so that it works on the 1/3 sky, 2/3’s ground so I get better exposure on the details. As long as the upper portion of the view can capture an HGV & it’s driver’s face, I’m fairly happy. Also I have a add on polarised filter to “cut” through and minimise glare from oncoming windscreens, making the driver more visible. 😎 Great vid btw Sam👍🏻
Sam, another very useful video. Thanks. I'm thinking of installing this on my 2011 L322 following a frustrating head on shunt down a country lane. Now that you've had it for 3 months is there anything that you would change in the set up? Are you still happy with the kit? I'm not sure I'd go for the 3 cameras unless you've found it particularly useful. I think I would have also forgotten to press the Bluetooth button following the shunt!
Hey James, I’m still really happy with it to be honest. Time will tell if it lasts as long as my old Nextbase has (5 years and still going), but there’s no reason to think it won’t. 3 channels is pretty nice and gives you nearly all-round coverage, but you’d definitely get away with 1 or 2 for most incidents I think. The Bluetooth button is optional, as the camera has a G sensor to detect an impact and save footage. How well it works is another question, but it’s there!
Hello Sam Thanks for this very helpful video, I ordered the same one and installed it in my LM322 from 2007 as you (red-blue / black) Problem: the camera only runs as long as the cockpit light is on, but as soon as it goes out after the engine starts, the camera also switches off. Does it need different wiring or camera settings (setup)? Thanks for your tips and greetings from Switzerland.
Hi, thanks for the comment There may be some wiring differences between the pre and post facelift cars unfortunately. I chose the wires specifically because they are “ignition live” (I.e. always on while the ignition is on), but that may be different on the earlier cars. There are wiring diagrams available for the earlier cars so you should be able to find a suitable place to take power from.
I've had good results with the Viofo A129 dual setup, the video looks very similar. Timelapses of roadtrips was what I had in mind too and it had no problem fitting around 8 hours of footage from both cameras (one 4K, one 1080p) on the 256GB card I have without overwriting.
Loved the video, just ordered a 2 channel, I couldn’t find if wire for rear camera is supplied is listed as an optional extra. VIDEO REQUEST gap iid tool, used it to do adaptive suspension calibration and wow the difference, would love to use tool to do other things but am afraid I will stuff something up, e.g would like to do live data on turbo’s to see how they are performing if that’s possible, are they good are they sick ? In general stuff us inexperienced blokes can use tool for to help keep our cars running, mines a 2011 L322 4.4TDV8 as well, same colours as yours
If you ordered the 2 channel kit it will include the wire with it. I've done a couple of videos showing IID live data to do with suspension and air conditioning - but yes, a general IID guide might be a good idea, cheers!
Definitely comes with the rear wire - the optional one is a longer wire, but you won't need it. I ran the rear camera cable through the headlining to the back and there's plenty of length with the included cable, about a foot extra.
Looked to be decent footage , I watch a lot of RUclips car crashes or wham bam Tesla cam channel. The test with high beam on the car was unfair for the camera as the car wouldn't (hopefully) in front of you like that but to the side. Also these camera are pretty amazing if you think of the situations is going to be in ie night time so needs to let a lot of light in and sunlight so needs to adjust for bright conditions pretty good for such a small camera that does all this on its own.
Power drain is exactly the same in parking mode regardless of which of the options you choose as it still needs to be on and monitoring to record anything. You just need to either hard wire it with the proper kit that has the automatic low voltage cut off built in, or get one of the Rhundo 12v splitters that have it built in if your 12v is always on, or plug it into a power bank I guess, but they have explosion risks in extreme temperatures.
Draws about 5 watts. It has a timer function to turn off parking mode after a time period (up to a few hours) or you can rely on the low voltage cutoff on the hardwire kit.
Update: You can use code "SAM'S MOTOR & MACHINE" on Viofo's official website (viofo.com/) to get $20 off!
Oh man, wish I'd read this a week ago when I ordered one, DOH! :)
Nicely done, Sam! It will be cool to see video from those cameras mixed in your RUclips videos!
Cheers Jerry, yeah it’ll be handy having another high quality video source to use!

I measured the camera before installing and it seems to draw about 5watts fairly constantly.

I’ve got a 2 channel Viofo camera setup in a non RR. Very pleased with it.

Great video Sam. I like the discreet wiring... I'm personally not a fan of wires all over the place in a car.

Yeah I may tilt it down a bit - trouble is in the RR, you just get a big screen full of bonnet!
This also has a CPL on it, makes a big difference 👍👍
Makes my Garmin Mini look like an antique 😅😅
If it's older than couple of years, it is an antique 😆😉
Another good video 🚗🚙🚘⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍

Yeah - this 64GB card seems to do about 2hrs on all 3 cameras, so I will probably get a bigger one for it.
Tidy job that, I’ve got a crappy nextbase one, which I might install at some point.
I still have an old 1080p next base one! Been really reliable.
Ben = fit a Garmin Mini. Cracking piece of kit. I threw my Nextbase in the bin

Yeah I’m impressed overall. RUclips has compressed the quality a bit too - it actually looks quite a bit better straight off the card.
Is the "auto event detection" parking mode motion-triggered? How much of a drain would it be in parking mode?
Yeah, it has motion and collision detection in that mode. There is also a parking timelapse mode that takes a photo every 1-2 seconds.

🎉Shame that the interior camera is only black and white. Is there a setting to change to make it colour?
Yes there is. You can choose between „IR off“, „IR on“ or „automatically“
IR stands for infrared and is for night footage
Put the remote on the middle of the steering wheel.
😂 is that so I hit it at the same time as the horn, or at the same time I smack my head on the wheel?
@@SamsMotors either just don't press it hard haha
