The song? The vocals? The plot twist? The cinematography? He outdid everything! 🌱
The story of 3 friends. Justin likes the girl but the girl likes the other guy ( RJ - from the band " The Juans" ) I think the other guy likes the girl too because of his secret glances with the girl in the video. That's my interpretation, not sure if I'm correct 😅. RJ is Justin's friend in real life. This is also a prequel of his first single Surreal. Justin is a great creative director. Thanks to all of you ❤.

He wrote this song before Surreal and he's in denial of his heartache so he just imagined a perfect world where hatred does not exist. It's like the stages of grief. You go through denial, anger, etc. Surreal was like his way of coping with his heartache, to keep his sanity.
It is also possible that Justin said "What if I already know?" because he thought she was going to confess her feelings for him, and he wanted to encourage her. Too bad it turns out she had feelings for RJ. Enjoyed the discussions gentlemmen. 😁

the reason why Surreal was initially titled as Parallel Univers its cos it is. in an alternative world where there is no hate, that is the surreal feelings/happiness shown on his 1st song....and the 1st line goes "i just want to live in my imagination, where hatred does not exist". but, the reality is he was hurt and the story behind is the one in Kaibigan. justin hinted of another song after this, so hopefully its a true happy ending for his character ❤

Love the discussion! I think this is the longest discussion about Justin's song/MV that I've seen so far. By the way, the other guy is actually from The Juans.
In an interview, Justin talked about this and its connection to his first song MV "Surreal". After having his heart broken in this "Kaibigan", he created his own world where things are way better which is shown in "Surreal".
The plot twist was crazy I also felt blindsided. Poor Justin😢 but I love the mv and love your reactions guys

Surreal is a sequel of Kaibigan. And there will be a 3rd song to complete a trilogy. After Justin had been devastated in Kaibigan, he imagined that he was with his friend in Surreal. Hoping that in the 3rd song, he would find a girl who will love him.
KAIBIGAN is double entendre. It's meaning is FRIEND but if pronounced differently with the syllabication its slang meaning is LOVER.

May I just add- the genius of the creative musical duo of Pablo & Josue aka Radkidz- the melody feels very Justin - still hopeful. The beat & rhythm gave the whole song a good flow of the narrative that lead to Justin's heartbreak... then when the melody abruptly ended sort of conveys the whole intention of his friends of a quick end to Justin's illusions

Thank you for loving Justin’s Kaibigan MV❤. Very interesting discussions. Based on interviews I heard from Jah, he said he has 3 songs created and Kaibigan is before Surreal. So in my opinion, the genius storytelling of Jah telling this story backwards. Kaibigan is a prequel to Surreal. In Kaibigan he was friend zone then Surreal is him getting over the heartbreak, in his imagination he was happy with her but in some part of surreal showing some sadness realising in reality there was no her as she is with someone else. The kicker would be if the 3rd song will be the beginning or the end. So looking forward to it. I feel that there’s death in this story as the sense of loss in the surreal video is strong. Justin’s creativity is 🔥🔥🔥🌱🌱🌱🔥🔥🔥
Me too feels there is death in this story- methinks Jah plans for the bida to “die” in the 3rd MV. Justin always says he prefers roles where he “dies” in the end. He also seems to love them Starry Night paintings by Vincent Van Gogh - probably his fave artist. Van Gogh started being a loner/solitary at 21 when he got rejected by a London girl and eventually took his own life. I just hope Jah will give us instead a happy ending in his 3rd installment to this story ha ha
@@leialee1988 yes! Although, it seems the twist is whether the 3rd song is the beginning or the end. And how it will fit in this trilogy. But the concept of sad or happy ending very much relies on if the story be told at the beginning or the end. So the narrative could be if beginning is that Surreal is bittersweet as he reminisce the good times. If the 3rd song is an ending, I am excited on how the narrative will impact the full story. Who dies?

Justin was all assuming that the girl likes him but he was actually seeing what he only wants to see. The guy in the pendant was RJ. Surreal was his escape from reality. It was his coping mechanism that he created this Surreal world where he and the girl ended up together.

Hey, fellas! Really enjoyed how you dissected and speculated about what was going on in Kaibigan. From various interviews, Justin has revealed bits of how he intended the story of both SURREAL and KAIBIGAN to be.
Basically, they were all best friends. (BTW, yeah, the other guy is RJ Cruz, from The Juans. The girl is singer-actress Nicole Omillo.)
As they grew older, Justin's character wondered whether the closeness between the girl and him was something more than friendship. According to Justin these were small gestures, like how she'd touch him, or look at him, or if she'd borrow a pen from him when she could easily borrow one from someone else. Justin's character began to interpret these as signs that she was into him. In a MYX interview, Justin has described this as his character being "delulu" (current slang for "delusional"). As reMARKable and No Drink guessed, the earlier scenes of the MV depict things as Justin's character interpreted them optimistically/unrealistically, while the latter scenes of the MV show how things from a neutral/realistic perspective.
Surreal is actually set after the events of Kaibigan. (And in fact Justin wrote the song Kaibigan before Surreal.) It's basically Justin retreating to his "happy place" -- his imagination -- because of how hurt he was.
Justin said all his songs will be connected, so hopefully his next release will show him healing and doing well!
I was right!! I knew he looked familiar (RJ). IMO if they knew they were together and they wrongfully mislead Justine. As a close friend I would never betray my friend like that.

Interesting discussion guys. You all have a point but I'm with King Bro on this HAHAHA. I believe the girl led Justin on cause why act like that? Whether she is with the other guy or not she has the choice to not act sweet anymore to Justin so he won't misinterpret any further.
On the other hand, the MV is like a short film. It was well thought of, and the acting and cinematography is chef's kiss. Justin is just so creative and we have seen it with the other MV's he directed. As for the song and the singing? Justin served and nailed it! 💚

With your banter, I'd say Justin has successfully achieved his goal coz he likes the audience to proactively arrive at their own plot of the story. Surreal is his happy place (imagination) while in grief after he was hurt in Kaibigan - where in his perspective the girl seems to like him too, but after the girl drops the bomb, it opened his eyes and had the realization that it's always been in front of him that the girl likes the other boy. Anyway, 2 great Artists will be dropping their songs: 1)Cup of Joe's 'Misteryo' with Justin as Creative Director and
2) TJ Monteverde's (if I'm not mistaken) 'Sariling Buhay' with Justin featured as Actor. Love your RV's. Tysm.

Probably Justin wants to stay in his own world(imagination) coz theres no pain, no hate it's just happiness and happy ending story.

Kaibigan has 2 meaning depending on the pronunciation - kaibigan - means friend while kai-bigan means lovers. i agree the other guy, RJ, is a real good wing man. i also agree that he was happy with the idea that the 2 will get together in the way he was looking back at them when he was driving. if she was his girlfriend, he wouldnt want her to be at the back with him. and he probably doesnt know about the girl, Nicole, likes him instead. that is why he still looks clueless when they left. he probably just thought Justin wanted to be alone. and as a good friend, he respects Justin and just leaves with the girl who needs to be back. my 2 cents is that when the girl tells RJ, he will be equally surprised. and he probably would go back to Justin and say, "man, am your wing man, we don't do that".
