As an indigenous person who loves all forms of metal....this is up there with Morbid Angel's Blessed, Emperor's Anthems, Carcass' Heartwork, Agalloch Ashes, this was the first album to move me in a long long time.
So many things I like about this, most of which have already been said. It's actually rare that I think metal vocals are anything above merely "getting the job done" but I really appreciate clarity of enunciating consonants while still maintaining brutal power and emotion which only makes it more powerful. All metal vocalists should listen and learn.
On the one hand, I don't want to dis all of the bands that inspired this. On the other hand: Black Metal Artists: We're going to make the most intense, powerful and passionate music on the planet. Blackbraid: Hold my tomahawk.
I was recommended this by a friend who loves Black Metal. I'm usually not into Black Metal genre myself, although I'm a big metalhead and a music fan in general. Two tracks in and I already love it! Absolutely love the fact that the album and the band's theme is Native American folklore/culture. This is how I always imagined an American Folk Metal to sound like. And the arrangements remind me a lot of old Skeletonwitch (especially Beyond The Permafrost and Serpents Unleashed albums) is a huge bonus for me!
Same here. I hate black metal, but I love this band. You know why we like this? Because it's NOT black metal at all. This is melodic death metal through-and-through. I have no idea why this band is classified as black metal. No idea why the band labels themselves black metal. It's not even close to being black metal, both musically and lyrically. What sets this apart from other black metal is its concept. There is a theme running through the songs - actual stories being told. And a spirituality other than fake satanism. Sgah’gahsowáh is exploring and expressing his roots and his religion with genuine intent. We may not share the same belief system, but I respect and commend his vision.
I'll say it again , 'The River of Time Flows Through me ' is the greatest piece of Metal I've heard in the past 5 years or so . And one of the greatest songs ever as well . Greetings from Greece !

And here is a fun fact, Jon played a flute on stage, once during a song and later as the intro to another song, during the flute intro to the second song, it literally started to pour with rain after us having had a drought here in the country for a long ass time, now I know it had drizzled a bit earlier in the day, but I choose to believe Jon is a real ass fucking Shaman! 🤘Blackbraid, you guys fucking rule, next time you roll through, I'll be there 🤘

Your music makes my heart feel intense. There really aren't many black metal bands that fill me with such emotion like this. It gives me comparable feelings like our traditional music does 🥹 such beautiful melodic blackness.
Saw these guys in Charlotte NC with Cattle Decapitation in May. Beautiful. I wasn’t expecting them to be there and was taken by their performance. Would be awesome to see them tour with Agalloch.

I Love Atmospheric, Cascadian, DSBM, Melodic, and some Traditional Black Metal. This guy has somehow molded all my favorites into one, with an amazing untapped version which is hard to describe. Even the instrumental tracks on this album are next level good. Agalloch, Alda, Woods of Desolation and Taake are my 4 favorites, and this guy just made it into that favorite list (very top). I am excited to see Blackbraid II. Also, I feel the folklore of Native American ideas/history/experiences expressed through Black metal is like a perfect medium for this. Black Metal is the the best genre to express nature, and Native Americans were the true first inhabitants of this land and experienced the raw nature of it. I love every part of this project.
This band surpasses Sargeist as my favorite. I think Blackbraid and Sargeist would be a perfect tour. Add Stormruler (from St. Louis, USA) on the bill and you have the absolute, mind-blowing, black metal guitar of the 2020s...

New Metal had been kind of sh*t for a while,but indigenous artists/bands like Bloodywood and Blackbraid are bringing it back.I am amazed and my old ass is getting unstuck from what I have been listening to for years.Loooove this sh*t...Living in the Appalachian Mtns doing both wildlife and paranormal research every night,this music is the perfect backdrop to that reality.
Honestly makes me so happy and proud to have Lakota Sioux blood running through my veins. Had this album on repeat for two days now. Can't turn it off.
